  • well, my capital was also my commercial centre with tons of towns, coastal resources, silk, etc. it has set clipped my total economy by about 30% and my production by nearly a quarter!

and i must admit that i'm pretty pissed off!
corossol, this might sound like a sore loser talking, but razing important cities is not an honourable way to win a game. it's one thing if you're trying to deny an oil resource and you destroy the size-3 one-tile island city to achieve that. but a capital???

did you see me razing hamburg? no, of course not!
even though it's easy for you to take back. the cultural borders won't expand for at least 50 turns so you're always going to be in striking distance with even the 1-tile movers. i left it there because it's a challenge to hold such a city and because it's the right thing to do.

well, my respect for you has sunk massively. before i admired your overall dominance in "waterfront", your massive economy and techlead in "ice age" and your fascinating co-dominance in "industrial" (despite worse lands). but now? ...

anyhow, i will continue this game until my annihilation is definitive but y'all need to give me a few more days to micromanage and save what i have got left.

    • ok, reading through this really sounds like i'm a bad loser. probably i am.

but nonetheless i don't think it's a honourable thing to do...

      • I certainly did an evil thing - but I think some of your comments were a bit unfair to me. Let's defuse this situation through private e-mail. You can take your time with the turn.

        • Hehe, I was thinking, man he's really ticked off. Although I'm sure with Hamburg heavily guarded, it was Cor's only sane choice to get back on the offensive, other than pointlessly attacking me. Plus it wouldn't have done much good just to take it, because it certainly would have been taken back... But, it was quite deviously evil and unexpected.

There goes my plans to raze Berlin.

          • I had the same thing happen to me recently in a Pitboss game. Someone sailed in with a ship with a few units (pulling a double-turn no less...though that game it was officially allowed) and razed my capital.
Luckily I'm in an alliance with one of the mega-powers of the game and he helped force a peace and I've now rebuilt that city and it's just starting to grow again. And I'm now making sure I got stronger defenses in my vulnerable cities.

            • i admit that it was foolish not to upgrade the defending archer earlier. i had plenty of money and thought about it 10 turns ago or so. i just underestimated that corossol would have galleons so soon. and during my military service i played the turns sloppily.

also, there's nothing to say against sneak attacks! those are very viable ways of fighting. maybe not "nice", but still fair.

but the razing of a city just isn't square...

                              • I still have the turn. Sorry about the long delay - last weekend I was away, and this week I was moving. I just had time to play my Pitboss turns, I'll get back to speed on my PBEMs in the next few days. Thanks all for your patience.
