    Ahhh, Fins... sorry.

At any rate, this pitboss thing has me wanting to pull my hair out. What is worse, is that i have yet to find a difinitive instruction manual.

I got it running (i think, lol). But now what?

Do i try to connect to my own IP? I get a timeout message when i do this.

Do i load the pitboss autosaved game? I tried this and i seemed to be able to get in, but it did not hold me to the turn timer. I could just keep taking turns regardless of the fact that no one else had even signed in yet. Do i need to take one turn then save it? I am totally confused.

Anyone familar with the ins and outs of hosting one of these please give me SPECIFIC details on how it is done. A link to some sort of manual would be just as good. Whoever wrote the firaxis instructions for pitboss in the book should be shot. It details all the stuff that the program walks you through (duh) and then leaves you hangin at the point where the program lets go of your hand.

(I used to write operators manuals, so maybe im a bit bias)

Calling Finns as Swedes is same as calling Americans as Canadiens

          I can help you out

If you're getting a timeout error connecting to your own IP, I suspect a firewall conflict. Make *sure* it's on the exception list, and your router is set up to handle it properly. (If you play normal MP, then you should be fine.)

Are you connecting through "Internet" or "DirectIP"? When you say "connect to your own IP" I assume you mean DirectIP. Are you using your LAN IP (192.168.x.x) or your WAN IP (something else)?

You should be doing the following: (It's approximate, as I don't want to shut mine down, but the order should be roughly right)

          1. Run Pitboss.
          2. Select no mod, then you want Internet. Log in with your 'secondary' Gamespy account (you MUST have two accounts set up through Civ4 or Warlords, because you cannot connect to your game with the same login as it's set up under).
          3. Select new game or load game, whichever. This is where you could load your 4000 BC autosave if you've already set it up.
          4. If you select new game, set up all of the aspects (turn timer etc.) If you select load game, you'll have to put in the administrative password (if any was set).
          5. Hit start. It should run with two windows, take a minute or so to run.
          6. Now try to connect to it in Gamespy

Hehe, don't forget maple surup making.

I think i subconcously just wanted to think that someone besides me was holding up the launch.

This really makes me mad. I have searched the web for hours looking for instructions. All i can find is fixes for when pitboss first came out. Nothing telling how to host the thing, or maintain it.

                Thanks for the info Snoopy.

After broseing lots of forums I tend to think that direct IP is the way to go. Any info on how to set it up using direct IP? (or do you need gamespy to get it working initially?)

                Just some backinfo...

I have no problems connecting in MP, or staying connected.

I tried connecting to myself using my WAN IP.

Don't use DirectIP, unless you are 100% sure your IP never changes (if you don't have DHCP addressing). Gamespy is much easier to connect to, even if it occasionally drops the connection (once a week or so). You probably should reboot your computer once a week anyway

Also, a gamespy hosted game can still be connected to via DirectIP if necessary, but not the reverse (you can't connect to a directIP game with gamespy).

I saw your game and connected successfully, although I connected before it was launched, which is odd (you shouldn't be able to connect before it's launched)... and I see you in the gamespy lobby, which is odd. You on irc?

lol, i set the game up, got everyones civ picked, then had to decide on my own civ...

Started reading forums regarding civs, and got sucked into it (been reading for about 3 hours now).

I will launch the game tomarrow, still ironing out what civ to pick.

Everyone, look for game to be up and running by the afternoon (EST).

Perhaps Keygen can help. I'm playing another PBEM game (Ride On) that he set up. His email address is [deleted by request] . My recollection is he is busier than usual this week, but he generally has time to help

As an ingnorant, fat, NASCAR loving American I just tend to lump other countrys together...

China, Japan, Korea = Rice, slanty eyes, overpopulation, household pets as a food source.

Iraq, Iran, Syria, Saudi Arabia = Hot, dry, sand, turbans, camels, oil, mud houses, sand, explosives

Finland, Sweden = Wooden shoes, windmills, legal drugs, sexually diviant blond girls

I pretty much use them interchangeably.

                                Hehe...

PS: Will try to have game up today.
