The common thing is that you only play as a bulldozer. Instead of attacking me without a single warning you could have told about your "displeasure" if I would do this or that. It's not like you are in an uncomfortable position. You have the game in the pocket already.
Returned.

well, with a warning it would not have much effect, you would have just stacked the caravels over each other.
besides, i'm hoping that you have learned from the last game: always be prepared for everything. for instance once one of us gets astronomy, it's possible that ANY coastal city gets attacked! fortunatly the AI doesn't do it too often, so i don't need to protect too much against ragnar's berserkers...

and what have you lost? an explorer that already mapped most anyhow, a missionary which might have suceeded to give you a +1gpt and caravels that'll be outdated as soon as galleons & frigates, etc come out
oh, by the way, congrats on your newly conquested lands! looks like hannibal is quite an easy pick-off

There's no defense against a surprise attack. Not unless both of us don't do anything but creating military units.
Besides, I wasn't talking about how to play, but about diplomacy. As you can see I simply continued to convert Ragnar. A warning of you, connected with your technological superiority could have let me decide to seek safer waters.
And no, no turn.
And talking about diplomacy: if you want this war to end you'll need to pay for what you destroyed of course.

had i not seen your units by coincidence, i wouldn't have even tried...
war weariness won't harm me as much as you. i have notre dam(n), plenty of happiness resources and enough money to use the cultural slider. so it's peace for nothing or no peace at all
(but as a sign of goodwill, i'm willing to pay 1g for each unit that was destroyed and another 1g for each XP i gained )

What's this? I only got one message about a caravel being destroyed by a longbow but they're both gone?
And the combat log doesn't even mention anything.

that's because you don't get defense in the port of a city... basically sitting ducks.
the 2nd must have gone together with the first... not sure...

What'do you expect?
I clicked on the capitulation button, yes, but cancelled (appearantly in vane) if afterwards.
Besides, capitulation is not the same as resigning. Did you never dream of having a human vassal or such?
On your peace offer, do you really think 10 gold covers the loss of 3 caravels and an explorer? Since you commenced hostilities its your people who will suffer from war-weariness...
Sent twice, the good one should be among the mails.
