I think it might be useful to distinguish between the Civ and Leader chosen and the actual team playing the combo.

For instance team Civfr: Williem and Maya. Is that a great combo choice by an experienced MP team or weak combo choice by less experienced team?

Civplayers choice? they have the experience what do we think of their combo choice from such a well regarded MP forum.

I don't think I'll learn much useful information (especially since I'll be playing single player instead of multiplayer) but I've decided to set up a custom game with the same settings and the same leaders/civ combos just to see how it goes. It can't hurt to refamiliarize myself with stuff and maybe I'll actually learn something useful.

Is there any updates on the second choices of CFC, CF.d, or the pander pumpers?

Weird, I'm now playing the test game with the map settings and info we have and the first thing I notice about Liz of the Ottomans is that she starts with roads and agriculture. I thought we started with mining or am I just a ******?

How do I answer this tactfully...

Experienced or not, I don't see the point in picking Willem of Maya. I suppose they might have some sort of strat, but there were better picks for just about anything out there I think.

Financial is always a strong trait. Some people here were thinking about picking creative to go along with philosophical. So while creative isn't my favorite trait, obviously lots of people like it. With creative they get to build the Mayan UB at half price. Since their UB is +2 happy and ours is +2 happy, you can hardly call it weak. Better yet, theirs is much cheaper to build then ours, so while our UBs have the same bonus, theirs has much more synergy with their leader then ours. Our UB costs 100 hammers to build, their's costs 40. And it is 3 happy, while ours is 2 health and 2 happy, 1 extra happy is probably worth 2 health. As for their UU, perhaps they are afraid of an early chariot rush (not a bad fear with Egypt in the game), or perhaps they want the flexibility of rushing a neighbor themselves.

Perhaps there were better options available to them, but overall I don't see their pick as any worse then ours. Maybe everyone on their team is making fun of our choice.

I'm pretty sure people are making fun of our choices either because they expect the game to be a quick military game or because they're saying "Ottomans?"

No one has picked Rome yet either.

Well, in all fairness, I AM saying "+2 ?!" for our pick as well, but that's me. I don't get it unless it's for a fairly early UB when happiness is a real choke. The UU is really weak also. I get Willem, yeah, he was a possible choice of mine, and his UB does go well with the Maya, but I just don't see the strength of the UB+UU combo when choices like Rome were still around. They'd get a lot more out of the UB, even if it's not at a discount, and the UU is way better, plus the starting techs are better also.

Okay +3 for 40H is a good deal, I suppose, but that's it, and the UU and techs it comes packaged with are weak unless they want an early religion or are taking a shot at some of the first wonders.

There were a lot better choices out there, that's my ultimate issue with the pick.

                        Maybe we can change it?

Hah, did someone say "espionage economy" and "civic switch missions"? Sommers seems to have gotten his wish...

I hope not.. and I really hate that these kind of missions were not banned.. I don't want to be in a position to say after a ruined game that "we told ya".. (ruined if some teams rage quit, which I also hate but I can imagine it, especially RB).

We didn't got the terrible espionage missions banned?
                              That sucks
I hope we voted in favour of banning those.

Yeah, well a SPI leader + ESP UB + Sommers = you know what's in store...

We voted against, iirc, and Sommers basically argued up a storm for keeping them, and somehow that happened. And people said, "oh, you're the only one arguing for it and the only one who has extensive experience doing it, saying it's 'no big issue'". And, well... somehow it got reversed and kept.

Is it wrong to hope someone just rushes them early and knocks them out? Is that unsportsmanlike or something?
