I'm going to try a second attempt from the beginning.

One suggestion is not having such a small military unless you're prepared to do mass whippings. If you got through 200 turns without an invasion, you're lucky or something. Every time I've played through I've been invaded between T50 and T100 by someone, though the stacks have differed from "menacing" to "foolishly small".

Is anyone else going to try again? I made one attempt where I tried to expand early in order to grab the best spots but ended up over expanding, having research drop to zero, and then quit when units started getting disbanded. Rookie mistake, I know.

Second attempt I was in 2nd place point wise at turn 145 with four wonders but then literally all four of my neighbors declared war on me. I had 9 cities and only lost one far out pop 2 city but to defend against the endless enemy stacks I was forced to whip like mad. I ended up in second to last place. :/

I did try a few times. You haven't posted anything concrete, though, so it's a bit hard to get into a discussion over it.
