Apollo should imho go: S, SE; then if possible go SW - around the mountains, otherwise take proposed route

Re Bellero I am caught between your suggested NE NE and SE over the river. In effect which will reveal more territory. I'm inclined to go with NENE as you suggest, but open to other views.
