  • Without monthly voting on stories there seems to be little incentive to write stories. There really does not seem to be a clear objective as to how to win this game since no vote means you cannot win by being the best storyteller and because of the diplogame rules (which may or may not exist since the rules were never worked out) you cannot easily achieve several of the victory conditions like eliminate all rivals or world domination. The game is in limbo and simply moving forward by inertia.

I recommend implementing monthly voting on storytelling to stimulate stories and revive the game however I am not going to be the one to organize the vote.

I agree with the analysis and solution but would also add in the difficulty with the presence of 3-4 AI and how they are

      dealt with.

      • I assume they wouldn't get votes.

          • The remaining AIs are weak and ineffectual. The game is on noble setting so they will produce at the same pace as the players so there is no unfair advantage from allying or conquering them. The worst of the damage has already been done with Arabia collapsing easily to give the Byzantines a huge advantage. All that remains is to use them in your storyline as you see fit.

Now about setting up that voting system. Any volunteers?

            • I think Robert is the expert for organizing votes, I'll PM him and ask for some help.

              • I am quite sorry to do this, especially now with DNK leaving, but I need to leave as well. I know it sucks since I organized this game in the first place, and I really do enjoy the map and the scenario and all, but I just really need a break from civ. I just played my turn and queued up some builds, but hopefully you can find someone to take over for me soon. Sorry again.

                • With Ozzy leaving the game, I recommend that his Byzantines be turned to AI. Essentially with the weak AI play of Arabia, the Byzantines were able to become the powerhouse that Arabia was meant to be in the scenario. The original scenario as I understood it was supposed to be the players jockeying for advantage against each other while coordinating against the AI. The Byzantines are sufficiently powerful, own most of Arabia (crucially Jerusalem) and have enough of a tech lead that they would pose a solid challenge. The race to control Jerusalem would be back on again!

I think this solution would help revive interest in the game (along with monthly story voting).

                    • With PYT down still and no indication if it will be back, could someone add the game to Civstats.

I certainly want to continue. Byzantium and China are way ahead of me but I feel I can make a decent game of it, especially if Byzantium is turned into an AI. It will take a lot of team work to bring Byzantium down but it can be done and I like the challenge.

If we can get the story voting going then balance is not an issue since the game will be determined by storytelling. Can we also get whoever has quit to turn their civs to AI please?

                              • We should throw up some voting system for September then.
