  • To anyone playing DoB, The Game is up. To all others sorry for the intrusion.

    • 2 things:
      1. voting? Are we doing this?
      2. rules? Are we doing this?

Seems like I get few responses on these. The first ought to be straightened out soon, as the first voting period will be finishing in a couple weeks, and I figure it will take a bit to set it up if we're doing it...

      • 1. I'm thinking no for voting. But I'm open to whatever you guys want.
        2. Rules are probably good. Any suggestions?

        3. We need a new player. Someone dropped out.
        4. Does anyone want to take responsibility for leading and organizing this game? I don't think I can handle it.

        • I'm tempted to vote yes for voting, but I'm willing to be swayed by public opinion about this.
As for rules, we should probably at the very least have some guidelines for the game that are laid out in the first post of either this thread or the story thread so it's easily accessible.

And while I'd be more than happy to take on the leader/organizer duties for you Ozzy, I think I'm too new for that right now. Sorry.

          • What exactly is involved in running the game other than mediating issues and getting the voting run every month if decided upon?

Plus being nagger in chief. Robert & Sommer are good at this. When something comes up that needs a decision (like now) the organizer reaches out to everyone, PMs them, makes sure they weigh in and that a decision is reached. The organizer keeps an eye on the server and makes noise here when something goes wrong. They ensure that vacant civs find a sub or a replacement. They encourage people to post and keep the game together and moving forward.

                      • Rules question: was conquering player capitals forbidden? What if it were to culturally flip? What if a civ were to expand greatly (for example colonize all of America) would their core lands in Europe then still be off limits? Do the "core lands off limits" rule only go for the squashed continental European nations (Spain, France, HRE)?

                        • Looking back at DoE1: England lost 3/4ths of his core in the middle game, including the capital, but because he had like 12 other cities there was no rule called. That said, had he called the rule I would have voted that the cities be returned and equally valuable colonies be gifted in their stead.

That's the most realistic, given history - and the fairest, given this is a "gentlemanly" game: a continental power loses a war, suffers core devastation, but gets its European territory restored (mostly) while getting heavy fines levied and losing colonies. Of course, if the player opts to lose his core, that works too, but it ought to be his (the loser's) choice.
