Destiny of Empires [Diplo Game] [Organization Thread]
No amount of self-justifying changes the fact that this is two at least of the most powerful nations fighting a far lesser nation, which not long back we were talking of taking action to help. I have never seen this before in Diplo. Yes Mongolia declared war - so a fight between China and Mongolia is fine. But others then choosing to join in is bad. Never seen it before, or at least if anything like it was attempted every one of Russia and China's neighbours - Germany, Turky, Arabia, Japan etc. would intervene. Perhaps the spirit of diplo is no more and its just a mulitplayer Civ 4 with a cover. An Russia - it isn't normal civ4 pitboss that is the whole point.
This is purely OOC post and without a clear point, just to say some things which are worth considering :
Excuse a dogpile? Why someone would ever need an excuse to be a man/woman of honor and keeps his word or supporting his/hers friends? This is diplo-game, thus being diplomatic and building a reputation and friends is a very, very important. Yes, it became a 3 vs 1 situation, it is not fair, but this have a reasons and story behind I guess - it is not just because the big guys/girls want to torture the younger kid only because they can.
I myself admire that the Khan showed balls lately by settling his cities in an arc that denies me all the rest land in Asia.
Also it is nice that he showed character and temper by killing the Chinese warriors in anger without any gain.
But in fact, if it was a normal civ4 pitboss, I would have killed Mongolia long ago when they placed their provocative second city.
Seriously? I really don't get this logic. If anything I could say a rule was broken when Mongolia attacked me unprovoked. You say "it seems they were provoked plenty", what are you talking about, please explain...
I haven't seen that area of the world myself, so know little from first hand knowledge, but from story posts it seems China has taken all the good city spots. That is certainly within your right to do, but that is also certainly something that is an acceptable reason to start a war over. Also, based on Mongolia's story post it seems like they were attacking a barbarian city and after they killed/weakened all the defending troops you swept in and took the city. If I were in Mongolia's shoes I'd definitely declare war on you for that.
Russia and I have a pact that has been agreed upon for years and Japan and China are practically allies, how can their support be called into question here?
All of this happened, I may add, without a word from Mongolia!
Mongolia was the one who picked a fight with a larger and well connected nation, so it is only fair that I am allowed to respond. According to your logic, any nation may do as it please, including attack and kill another nation's units with no consequence, as long as it has a lower in-game score an military. Do you see how this does not make sense or work?
Finally, it is unfair to look at scores when this is a handicapped match. I am part of the Tier 3 players, who have been granted an advantage as I have less skill and experience. It is only natural that I have a score advantage as we have been given better starting positions.
Sure, you certainly have a right to respond. No one is expecting you to just absorb an attack and roll over. But bringing every one of Mongolia's neighbors into the war on your side when you seem to hardly need the help in the first place is in poor taste imho. I'm not objecting to their being consequences for Mongolia's war, just that those consequences seem to be overkill and disproportionate. And yes, Mongolia certainly gets a lot of blame for doing a poor job of creating alliances and seeking friends through diplomacy, but that doesn't excuse a dogpile.
It seems like they were provoked plenty. Either way, China & Russia are both top five in terms of points and military. Joining together (with Japan too!) to dogpile Mongolia isn't quite fair or balanced.
I'm not sure whether a rule has been broken necessarily, but it certainly doesn't sit well with me. Mongolia will be getting some good role playing votes from me and his opponents will certainly lose some.

My personal favorite is the one about the Neandor who went to the feast held by the neighbors and proceeded to smash the place up when he thought they were hiding his magic hammer from him.
