No, I knew that France had a gigantic giga-googleplex-of-a-Navy, but I honestly did not know that England had one too. That was news to me. Like I said, I thought things were quieting down.

In other news... The Donald (Trump) has withdrawn from the 2012 United States Presidential race... D@mn I was looking forward to that. It was going to be like living inside a reality TV show... Ah well.

And it ALWAYS crashes. Its like a punch in the gut when you build your whole city up to getting multiple wonders and stadiums and millions of dollars and then the game crashes with no autosave feature Its enough to make you shelve the game for months or years, which is exactly what happened
Yeah, I save regularly. Having 1GB of mods on top of the normal game isn't helping stability

England, France: make plans for a modern era war so I can use my Sim Cities for story posts.

          QUESTION

I will be going on another trip in June and again in October. I have my sub lined up; same person as last time. He is a very reliable, and a very good player. Not into the story-telling though.

He, and I, would both like to have him review the game situation periodically so that he can stay in touch with what is going on. This may be more frequent in the week or two leading up to my absence. I would have him log in after I play, and of course, not make any moves. Is that OK by folks?
Of course it is OK by me - not to mention that you play second, so after me and England hit End of Turn, the game is all yours to log in and out as much as you need.

This is a suggestion for later times when the game ends. If the top players could perhaps share some thoughts and ideas for their gameplay that can help weaker players? Like a common AAR (After Action Report) where the top players go over their own play, analyzing it and explaining how they reached the top. I consider myself an above average player, but when I see what some of you are capable of I am amazed. England has fought a huge war, lost its core cities and still managed to put together a fleet of insane proportions (if the French semaphors can be trusted ). How do you do it? My cities in India are large, but not particularily developed, and I have focused everything on peaceful development, and still England outproduces and out-techs me, and your empire is spread across the world, the maintenance costs alone must be huge.

I do not expect people to start blabbing about their current situation or plans now, but perhaps a thread when the game ends, or discussing the early part of the game could be valuable to the lower rung of players? I do not consider myself a noob, but there is always something new to learn. I know that some players could get tips on game mechanics, others on diplomacy and negotiation. Diplogames are complicated affairs, and so is civ4, for new players it can be quite overwhelming. A hands on strategy guide could be interesting. I feel that England, Vikings, Neandor and Russia could share some very interesting behind the scenes stuff that would likely be very valuable to less experienced players. I am certain that other players as well may have interesting strategies to share, which would be made even more interesting by comments on strengths and weaknesses by other players.

            Any takers?

            • I totally agree that there is much to be learned in such a complicated and competitive diplo-game. Also I do like very much and always search for the moral of the story. So much, that I sometimes catch myself judging by precedents, which is not bad, but on the other side puts me somehow "in the box".

I have proposed the very same thing - after action report in already 2 pitbosses I have played, but no one took the initiative to his heart. Lets hope that this time it will be different and we will have some in-depth or at least mini-series of tutorials on game mechanics, game gambits, tactics and strategies, and also - one of my favorite part of the diplomacy explained - the revelation who is who like in the last episode of a latino-american soap opera.

              Excellent proposal, India!

              • to the aar.

Thanks for the feedback on my sub reviewing the game.

Due to the timing of the current turn, I am playing very early in my morning. Hence I just finished my turn before the turn rolled, and I was still in the game when the new turn started. Other than chatting with some Neanderthal who was in the game at that time as well, I did not pull any sneaky double moves.

                • Sometimes I feel just pity I have to fight and hurt such fine and fair players like you, France.

                  • Certainly, I'll add 2c to the AAR.

Hurry up and get to the modern era! I have all this material for modern era story-telling, but nothing for renn-industrial. This is a lost epoch for me.

                      Thank you.

But if I check the combat log, you have not hurt me much.

Or maybe you were talking about the future?

Oh, it sounds like Aysecan does just fine where men are concerned. I doubt she even knows I exist.
