  • Yahuar Huacac,

Our diplomats were quite confused who to address with our letter. Now it seems you controll most of the Quechua land so we talk to You. We agree that first the English war must be ended then there may be a good chance to avoid the civil war too.
May I suggest that you make a public peace proposal so the English can no longer ignore it. Many nations want this war to be ended but so far they all convinced that the Incan leadership is the greatest obstacle in the way of peace.

I, Hiawatha, as leader of the Native Americans, have been friends with the Inca for some time. As brothers in 'Tao', like our brothers in Mali. Korea, and India, we want the best for the 'Inca' nation. It is our view, based on information from neutral observers, that you should seek an accommodation with the English King, Wallace.
I have seen that in any great undertaking it is not enough for a man to depend simply upon himself.

      • Russian armies are scouring the countryside, burning villages and hamlets, killing innocent civilians, approaching two more main Persian cities.

        Riots against Fed'Az
        Fed'Az loses grip

"We will not give up Hastogsburg!" Fed'Az said.
"That's only because you're a Hairy One yourself!"
"It's our Religious Capital!" Fed'Az barked
"Persepolis is our Religious Capital" Sha'Az whispered with anger in his soft voice.

Sha'Az was the most important Fat Guru.
He was leading the small army that defended the city of Persepolis. The approaching Russians brought feelings in his heart he never had before. Fear.

"You must make peace with Russia" Sha'Az demanded.
"Before it is too late you MUST!" he continued.

"I WILL NOT give up Hastogsburg!" Fed'Az insisted.
"We will fight till the end!"

Sha'Az left the room and started to gather Fat Ones. They had this firm believe that the Fat Ones had to take over. The Hairy Ones weren't able to defend Persia properly anymore.
"There are too many, we have too few" Sha'Az told his followers.
"We can start slaving more armies!" a fat guru replied.
"Hastogianism is AGAINST the slaving of free people!" Sha'Az barked.
        "But the Russians....."

"The Russians are not TRUE Hastogianists anymore!
Hastogianism is all about removing your obstacles.
Dominika's siege on Hastogsburg was acceptable for that reason!
But now they kill innocent civilians in lands that are not in their way!
They have changed from rational Hastogianists into brainless Barbarians, slaving their own people!

"Why won't we then fight them?"
"Because we can't.... we lost our entire army, when they betrayed us, in one battle. We have no choice..." Sha'Az looked at his feet.

        • Ramesses looked at the map. He sighed. Things were not looking good.

"Send envoys to Wallace of England. Ask them to consider offering a cease fire to the Incas. This war is ruining the power of our alliances and our continent. We have bigger fish to worry about. If we keep fighting amongst each other, we will become easy targets for other nations. Tell Wallace that Friendship City is still at his disposal for any peace talks on neutral ground. Also send envoys to the Incas, and invite them too. Tell both parties that if Egypt can be of any help in rebuilding their outer defenses, it will offer as much as it can. Our continent must pull together, or else we face a dark future."

          "Yes great Pharaoh."

          Ramesses turned around.
"Also, send a message to all nations on this continent. See what they think about the idea of a large formal gathering of all nations on this continent. Perhaps it is time we draw lines on our maps, lines that we will promise not to cross. Perhaps we can even discuss the possibility of a monetary union, to facilitate fair trade. Perhaps we can discuss common defenses, the setting up of a continental perimeter. We could form a council with rotating chairmen, ensuring the voice of each country is heard. We could even create a continental army, one spot on the continent where we all permanently position several troops, troops that can function as a rapid response force in the event of a threat.

We can discuss a common name for our continent, something like the Continental Union, CU. Or something like that. Of course, it will have to be a name we all like. Tell all of them that if they like the idea of beginning a union, we should start by gathering suggestions for a name, and then vote on it. Egypt will gladly volunteer to draw up a document with a proposal for a treaty, to which all members can then respond with suggestions, after which my scribes will work out the details and then distribute the documents to everyone to vote on.

England, Byzantium, Mali, Rome, Greece, Arabia, Ottomans and Peru, what say you? (OOC: did I forget anyone?)

          • Hail General Wallace,

time has come for our nations to move closer together. My generals, having failed badly, are losing power in our assembly to the Roman mercantile parties.

I am also now forced to face the reality that my own position as supreme ruler is no longer beyond discussion. I am preparing to abdicate in favor of our senate and retire to my winter retreat.

It is very bitter having built this nation to where it was, to now be accounted for only the effects of our recent war. I guess that cannot be helped. How short the memory of a mob.

I would like to see if I can restore some of the trade and agreements we had previous to the war and want to offer you an Open Borders treaty, as well as an agreement to trade dye for spices.

I hope history will judge me as well as it will likely judge you.

The Roman people, represented by their leaders gathered in the Senate, hereby declare,

              - that we shall remain neutral to the end of days

              - that the people of all nations shall be welcome in our lands

              - that we will not persecute people within our lands for not having faith in the one true god, Allah

              - that we only make an exception to our neutrality, hospitality and religious tolerance to battle the workings of the devil of the vile Hastogianist faith

              So say we all,

"Rome..... Rome.... never heard anything about them."
"They got this leader, 'ananas' or something, I don't know much about them either."
"They're then most probably not worth it. Let's ignore them. They apparently fear us, that's good enough for me."

                • Dominika of Russia,

Why are you ignoring the teachings of Hastog?
                  Did Hastog not say:

                  12. Kill those who dare to stand in your way.
                  13. Leave those who step aside untouched.
                  (Teachings of Hastog 4)

Then why are you still killing innocent Persian farmers. They are no obstacle to you. They try to leave your path. Still you murder them like they are maggots! Obey Hastog! Leave the Persian people alone!

And is Hastogianism not all about freedom?
Then WHY are you slaving your own people?
You are turn free Hastogianists into Slaves!
                  Hastog will spit on you!

I will not start discussing terms of peace with you before you retreated your entire army from Persian soil into Hastogsburg and before you stopped slaving your people for 3 turns in a row at least.

                  Hastog must be obeyed!
I can only succeed Fed'Az and remove him into the void of forgotteness if I will deal with you on pure Hastogianistic ideals.

Not sure I can comment on this since we are not a part of your continent. if you are proposing a global alliance, we would like to hear more about it before making a commitment.

                    • Ramesses reminded himself to no longer touch the new popular Egyptian delicacy, Whiskeh-soaked sugar dates, before working on major plans. He sent a message to Mali and the Ottoman Empire, explaining that if a Continental Union would come to exist, they would be most welcome to propose a strong alliance with the Union.

                      • Theodosius looked at the lastest intelligence coming from Persia.

                        "So what is your analysis?"

His urban diplomat responded "Well it seems clear that the Russians are winning the war against the Persians. The Persian stength long-term depends on the income from their two shrine cities. One is now in Russian hands, the other it appears is about to fall. If that happens, and the Russians can hold the cities, Persia's long reign of joyfully inflicting fear and hate on their neighbours will be at an end. The Russians may be a far smaller nation, but Persia has failed."

"But why do they continue with their hate and arrogant posturing? This latest comment about our friends the Romans "They're then most probably not worth it. Let's ignore them. They apparently fear us, that's good enough for me" is typical unreconstructed Persian arrogance. But I suppose it might that be a one-off, a unfortunate remark."

"No. Look at what they said when Russia attacked them. All this about deporting a whole nation! Typical arrogant hate - claiming they had the power to reverse God's allocation of the nations to the land; claiming that despite their catastrophic defeat, they were still the lords of hascon to dictate who lived where; bullying others with the threat of extermination."

                        Theodosius nodded

                        "So your conclusion?"

"The Persians are reaping what they sowed. They .... forgive me an undiplomatic tone, deserve everything they get."

Theodosius smiled, knowing that the leaders of many nations had expressed teh same to him, "but, leaving our personal feelings aside, what is good for Byzantium?"

"I see no reason to change our current policy"

"Good. Now, tell me about the progress in our plan to support the aspirations of our weaker neighbours"

The diplomat looked more animated and brought out a roll of documents, spreading them out before Theodosius, who leaned in, all eyes.

                        • History teaches us how bad things can come from good intentions. Big alliances forged to keep eternal peace were always the cause of the most terrible wars. That is what binds nations hands to act according their conscience, that is what leads to treachery, backstabs or just ignorance.
Rome is doing it in the right way: neutrality. Each nation should adapt this and so ensure that no conflict will cause world wide wars which would be neigh impossible to stop.

                          • Ramesses received the Indian communique on the forging of alliances. How odd, such an advice on matters on our continent, matters India has little to do with, seeing as they surely don't know much about all the intricacies at work between the nations on our continent.

Typical, he thought. For a nation so large that it has nothing to fear from others, they do seem to fear an alliance. And he mentions the alliance being forged to secure eternal peace. Something we have never mentioned. Our proposal aims at working together to defend the continent from possible future outside influence from stronger and larger nations, to simply secure our homeland and protect trade. Nothing bad can come of that. Unless India is planning something. Then a defensive alliance on our continent would be of even greater importance. Strange. Time will tell. Until then, let's hope our Indian friends are simply trying to help us with their wisdom.

That philosophical view about alliances was in no way an official statement nor an intention to intervene other nations' foreign politics. It is just a lesson coming from the Indian church. I have to admit that it has its points though, but let's be optimistic and hope things will work out differently in the future.
And just to clarify: India welcomes the intention of a peace preserving alliance forming anywhere and anytime, but we are continue to follow our ways and building on friendship not military alliances.
