The Smell of Smoke in the Woods

After many years a wander, the survivors of the great battle for Mythical Troia, having been driven from their birth shores, awake to a new horizon. Aeneas of House Lupus was tired. He escaped the temptations and dangers of the barbary shores once too many. He took to scouting the surrounding lands by himself years ago, but this time out, there was something different. The lands seemed to yield to his path as if by choice. Welcoming.

He crossed a creek leading to a larger river, clambered up the bank and stumbled upon a small clearing. In the center of the clearing sat a Wolf. The Wolf was feeding her young, a pair of small but very active young pups. The Wolf was unthreatened and one of the pups came up to Aeneas and boldly sniffed the weary leader. Aeneas, born in the sign of the Wolf felt what he had been looking for. A sense of home.

The people gathered around when he returned to the camp. Aeneas raised his hands for attention. "Rome", he bellowed, "our new home."

The stories were passed down through the generations of the wandering tribes. For thousands of years they roamed.

The ancients told of the time the tribe did gather and a young man named Korzan did upset the elders and was expelled from the tribe for thinking differently to the elders.

Korzan took with him his brothers and sisters and their mates and children.

Korzan did walk many miles till he found a place he felt was RIGHT. So it came to pass that Korzan and his family did settle and became the first of a new tribe to be known as the Korzans.

          -----------------------------------------------------------------------

Editors note: Over the next centuries this name changed as the "Z" became silent so they were then known as Korans. This too later reformed to become Koreans. But that is much later in the history of this people.

In the beginning when man was still young and the gods cared not of man’s
fait, the world was ruled by creatures from the darkness. These creatures,
who where once human souls who became corrupted over time, fed on the
flesh of men in order to quench their everlasting hunger. Hundreds of years
passes and more and more of these creatures, who where called hollows,
appeared and it seemed that the more men that where killed by these hollows
the more of them would appear. Then one of them changed, he felt pity for
man and vowed to protect them.

A war for mans very existence began and the Hollow, who called himself
Drego Pendragon, along with three others who joined him began to take a
more human appearance. For years they fought and killed their own kind but
to no avail. The Hollows had become too many in number and the four
defenders where too few. It was then when all hope seemed to be lost that
one of the gods came to the aid of man. The goddess Britannia gave man the
knowledge to create cities and said to them, “Build a city to protect your
            selves.”

Man did as instructed and built a city near a long flowing river. Then she
came down again but this time spoke to the Hollows that protected
man. “You have all fought for so long and so hard to protect these men from
your own brethren and now only one last sacrifice is needed.” Drego
Pendragon bowed before Britannia and said, “Ask of us what you will and we
shale do.” She looked and him and said, “You are the strongest of all and the
first to help these people. It is because your love for man that you have
changed into man and now your love will forever protect these people from
the Hollows.” She placed her hand on his head and he vanished into the
earth. The others yelled out, “What did you do to him!” She looked at them
and said, “Worry not his body was sacrificed but his soul will forever live on
watching over his these people like a guardian until the time comes that he is
needed once more.” They looked down with a sad expression on their faces.

“What do we do now?” one said. Britannia’s eyes glowed and she said, “You
three are now the defenders of these people but more then that you are the
messages of this story. Go now tell others what happened here today,
protect the city at all costs, and prepare for what may yet come. This seal is
only temporary and once the creatures become like you are now they may
come back to bring darkness upon all.” With that warning she vanished and
an orange light spread forth as a protective barrier.

Upon hearing the story the people rejoiced. They where so thank full to the
three defenders that they allowed them to name the city. Thus the first city
was named Pendragon and the Holy Empire of Britannia was born.

                His Most Glorious Sultan of the Ottoman Empire relays the following;

It is with great honor that I present to you all this dish of Turkish Delight as a symbol of friendship and goodwill to all men. For those that chew with precision, respect, and pace, it will be a treat, for those that chew with disregard to it's symbolism and do so in a hurried manner, it will get stuck in your teeth. Today marks a day like none other and in as such, I must get an early night's sleep.

The Sultan has retired for the evening, please enjoy yourselves in his absence.

                  Korzan passes

The mighty leader Korzan lived many a long year and passed away, leaving his people to honour him by naming their new vilalge after him. The vilalge stood on the banks of the Great River and only a short walk to the Salty Waters.

Korzans last orders were for his people to send a band of their finest to explore the land around the new city and to report back their findings.

                        So it begins...

Little Meni, five years old, looked up to his mother.
"What are you doing, little one?", she said.
"Playing with stones..", he muttered, working his chisel on the limestone in front of him.
"That looks nice, what is it?"
Meni picked up the bit of stone, and looked at it from several angles.
"It's going to be a pear, for Amid", he said, staring intently at the object.
"But Meni, cats don't like pears," his mother said, ruffling his hair, "and look, your edges are much to sharp now, a pear is more round. And there's not supposed to be any writing on pears."
"No, it's a pear! For Amid!", he said, chiseling away.
His mother looked at him, smiling. She looked away, to the nice view they had of Memphis and the river. She patted the boy on his head again and walked away.

Amid, the cat, walked up to Meni, thinking of food, sleep and female cats in heat.
                        Meni reached out to Amid.
                        "Here, a pear, Amid."

Korta Kandu led his people across the land in search of a new place to settle. The tribal turmoil in the homeland had brought dissension to the people and many gathered there belongings to search for a new start. The people traveled for weeks living off the land until one day they crossed the mountains to see a beautiful sight. With the blue water in the distance and fertile grasslands rolling from the foothills, Korta Kandu knew his people had found a new home. Marching through the foothills, Korta Kandu spotted a river and in the crook of the river was a beautiful clearing for which to begin a new life.

Finally we've managed to cross the white mountains, reached the land where we can rest safely and we shall run no longer from our enemies- as it was promised by Sha'tur, the god of night, the protector of our tribe, the god who manifested himself to us and guides his people since then.
I still remeber that day when Sha'tur first spoke to us. I was a child, my father was the chief that time. The Gods untill then only appeared before our shamans but one day when our chief shaman held the ususal sacrificial ceremony a strange light surrounded him and when it was gone he was no longer the man he was, but spoke to us as Sha'tur, the god of night himself. He said he came to us because we were in great danger and He would protect us if we follow him and accept his guidance.
Now by the will of the Gods, I, Chetan, lead our people. I will claim this land and build a city as the god king wishes. We are safe now, but Sha'tur warns us: Our enemies might return someday.. and we must be prepared.
