  • A non-historical diplo game

I'm tired of constantly rewinding history in vanilla BtS.

I want something different. Something that will enable unique and creative stories as well as shuffle around which players have the top and which the bottom civs.

Please vote which of this diplo games you would consider playing. Also comment with your own ideas and suggestions.

There are many interesting mods for Bts but all have the same problem that they never get finished. Bugs, imbalancce etc..
I'd gladly try though a sci-fi or fantasy mod.
Fall from heaven, Star trek mod, Mars colonization mod etc.. (edit: just saw that you made a poll and icluded these I'm interested in any of those, but I'm voting Fall from heaven- I havent tried it yet, but i have heard that it's profi work)

      Civ4 BtS: Fall from Heaven
Sid Meier's Alpha Centauri (with or without the Xpack)
Master of Orion 2 or 3

All work for me. You should have made this a multi-choice poll.

My top choice is FFH. That'd be hella fun as diplo.

MOO 2 would be fun, but the multilayer is a bit to set up. Plus I imagine only a handful of people have it.

A more practical option would be the Final Frontier mod if the space thing is where we are leaning.

Not familiar with the FFH mod.

I'd go SMAC/X every time as I know and love the game. Not too sure how you could really play Diplo on it as the Factions are so mutually antagonistic.

You raise many good points. We obviusly can't just take any good mod, we need to take a stable mod. ST and FFH seem like playable though I need to point out FFH has some MP difficulties and would be impossible to play via pitboss.

Otherwise its good to see people with similar tastes to my own.

True an oversight on my part, perhaps we could ask Robert to edit the poll or once we have enough people and feedback start a new thread (also update it with new suggestions).

              Ok my wish list:
              1. SMAC/X
              2. MMO2 or 3
              2. Fall from Heaven
              4. Final Frontier or Star Trek

From what I understand a virtual lan network needs to be set up to play it. A friend of mine said it takes a bit of patience to make MMO2 work but that there are guides and that it really isn't that hard.

As to people having it. MMO2 was a classic I think more people have it than you think.

I would never suggest piracy. I mean even if the game is so old no one would buy it. I mean we all know how evil piracy is and how we never ever resort to it right?

Final Frontier would be the easiest to set up, it has no MP issues and is part of the core game. The reason why it isn't on my top wish list is because I already tried to organize a diplo game in FF a year ago but it fell through (I might be to blame I rushed it).

I'm thinking we could start this game sometime in late september early october. This should be plenty of time to find serious players as well as decide which kind of game to play. As well as to deliberate on the rules to avoid gamebreaking disputes (we are going into a new setting, some rule changes are inveitable).

As to FFH, you can go to their page or you can play the FFH spin off that came with BtS to get a feeling. Its a fantasy TBS (a mod of civ4: BtS)

You mean in character? Not really just a few are polar oposites, and even they are pragmatic about their situation. Also we never said we would not allow custom factions (as long as they are balanced).

Also have you seen some of the story writting people have done for SMAC? Its amazing. If we go into SMAC/X we may attract some of that talent.

I have played it before multiplayer using a hosting site for older multiplayer games. Lan would probably be easier though.

FYI, I bought my windows version about 3 years ago for $5 at a retail store. I imagine legit copies can be found on the internet for a comparable price... seeing as we want to be legit and all.

Final Frontier would be the easiest to set up, it has no MP issues and is part of the core game.
That was my main reasoning with suggesting FF over some of the other space/fantasy mods.

I can't get MOO2 to work in Vista

I can't figure out DosBox either.

And WHY are you using Vista?

I'm still playing MOO2 multi time to time. (It's a dos install, using the 1.4 unofficial patch and DOSBOX) Btw I thought you were refering to the mmo2 civ4 mod (there is one). I dont think the original mmo2 game is good for diplogames

Because XP wasn't any better and I have zero interest in going Mac or Linux.

All I would like to know is where I can get all these mods. They all sound like they could be fun.
