Three squadrons of Roman cavalry climbed the road from Ravenna towards the hills above Kiev. At the head of the column rode Marcus Aurelius and Stefanos the Russian, flanked by flag carriers carrying the standards of Rome and Russia.

Waiting at the frontier was a group of Russian officers standing under a banner of truce.

As the Romans horsemen approached, one Russian officer walked forward from the group and knelt waiting in the centre of the road, holding his helmet in one and and a sealed letter in the other.

Marcus raise his hand and the Roman cavalry stopped, twenty yards short of the man. Marcus rode forward alone, dismounting walking to the man.

"Get up, my friend" Marcus said quietly in his accented Russian. "When a man's house is on fire, and his neighbour comes to help, he is not greated like this".

The Russian stood and handed over the sealed letter. Marcus read quickly, and exclaimed "God be Praised! Lucritius send messagers north, to Rome and to the fleet. We have a cease fire. No millitary action to be taken against Russia, no Roman to enter Russian bounderies. Hold positions."

Turning to the Russian Marcus smiled "Come, ride with me, tell me of this Rostislav Vladimirovich and the government of unity. Send messengers ahead - I will meet them on the fertile fields outside Kiev, and we will resolve this dispute and heal these wounds, in the name of the friendship of the Russian and Roman people."

      A new dawn for Russia

      Greetings Friends and Neighbours,

My name is Rostislav Vladimirovich and I head the provisional government of the Russian Republic. You will see that no longer does Russia have a vain portrait to represent her but the new flag of the Russian Republic that seeks to re-establish herself as an honourable, true and just nation.

Together with my comrades we have ousted the despot Andrei and must now set about the rebuilding of a nation ruined by conflict and war. Elections are to be held with every free man, women obviously have no part to play in matters of state, having the right to vote for a President, Prime Minister and Dumas worthy to rule our land with justice.

Little am I able to tell you of the future for that lays in the hands of the people. I may not even be a minister of state next round but I am proud to have helped Russia and her oppressed back to peace.

Peace not only with herself but also with the friend and neighbour so sadly wronged. Roman emmissaries arrived only yesterday to accept a ceasefire but so much more. Great Marcus has not made a move against a single defenceless Russian City nor even crossed our border. I thank you for you are a kind and generous man. Even were I formal Head of State I fear I could not invite you to visit me for both the great cities of Novgorad and Petrograd lie in ruin. We are forced to use Omsk, hardly a beauty spot, as a temporary place of governance.

A little more can I tell yet of the past. We failed to capture the king or his eunoch and Yaroslav the 'Wise' has escaped we know not where. However, some papers have been found in the ruins of the Winter Palace in Petrograd that point directly to Khmer involvement! It would seem that the king was not only a liar and betrayer supping at the table of a despot but that he was also a fool! Yes, the Khmer were providing him with assitance but he moved before their date. Would they truly have come? We know not but do now know for sure that Khmer infiltration of the very heart of Russia has been the cause of her collapse. Now this is common knowledge the people are angered beyond belief at the evil deeds of such a rogue state!

Certain documents were also found of Spartan origin, acquired by the University, which indicate a plan to partition Russia between Maya and Korea in return for the ceding of the Gobi desert! These will need to be studied closely but with enemies all around to think that Sparta would stoop so low as to sell Russia for a piece of sand!

I must conclude now for the candle now grows short and a major meeting is scheduled for the morrow.

Good Health to all Just Leaders,
      Rostislav Vladimirovich

            Sushi City rocks to Metallica!

            Tidings world citizens.

Khmer's cultural error in Sushi City is now rectified.

A Great Artist from Khmer has expanded into Sushi City with such metal music that even the Metals are rocked. Metallians from all over Meduian are now pilgrims to Sushi City, a now flourishing Holy Roman city as bequeathed by my father to dear Frederick.

Khmer advisors have been conscripted by the HRE government and a new form of civic is now enacted by Frederick: Free Market.

This in conjunction with the University of Sushi City and the Spiral Frederico inspired the HRE on a massive buliding program of holy buildings to take full advantage.

Khmer thought that losing a Great Artist to help the HRE was more important than another Khmer Golden Age.

We are sure all nations of Meduian appreciate the Khmer diplomacy skill in this matter. Khmer desire to be rival to Portugal in the international points stakes is only a secondary consideration. It is more important to strengthen the great nations of Meduian than to be the world leader.

What's the point of having wonders you are not using in any case.

            Good luck to Ancient Frederick!

May you return soon. Note that 5 Khmer workers loaned to HRE will be needed soon to build the Great Khmer Railroad.

            Great tidings all!!

A public declaration by Marcus Aurelius Emperor of Rome

                Piracy

On the high seas, between the Roman coast and New Portugal, fishing vessels have been sunk by pirates.

                1. Other nations be aware of this rising pirate threat.
                2. We have good ideas as to which nations are responsibile for these pirates. Do not believe that you can attack Rome with impunity. We will take disproportionate action at a time of our choosing.

                  The Korean/Mayan vs Sparta war
                  (screenshots will follow later)

                  Thebes
The city of Thebes is being besieged from three sides.
In the south-west Korean armies lay siege, blocking the mountain pass to the city.
In the north a Mayan army is ready to launch their assault to the city, blocking the northern road to Thebes
In the South-East a Mayan army of riflemen and a few catapults blocks the southern road.

A brilliant strategy by the joined Korean and Mayan armies has resulted in an isolated city. Eventhough Sparta was able to bring reinforcements to Thebes, these troops are not able to reach the city because of the 3-way blockade.

The city of Thebes is well defended but most probably not good enough to counter this 3-side attack. Sparta is preparing itself to lose it's 4th city. Source for iron and silver.

The South-East blockade of the Maya has been attacked from the south by Spartan reinforcements in an attempt to damage the invading army.
First two cannons fired at the Mayan army. Both cannons were destroyed in the process.

Then the weakened army of the Maya was attacked by 4 Spartan riflemen.
2 Spartan riflemen died against great odds. The other two were victorious.
The Mayan army was very weakened by this action.

                  Pusan
A Small Spartan army crossed the border in the east. Three riflemen and two cannons now lay siege to the city.
The cannons started to bomb the city defences, two Spartan riflemen have killed two Korean musketeers.

The city would fall to Sparta if not Mayan troops under Korean control would march from then north. Three Mayan riflemen will soon support the defence of New Pusan.

                  New Tikal
The Mayan colony on New Sparta, New Tikal, was attacked by Spartan forces.
Two Spartan riflemen died in combat. Both Mayan riflemen died.
The city is under Spartan control now. Except a group of workers no Mayan troops are in the neighbourhood anymore. Since the colony of New Maya was located far away from Maya's home territory this colony can be considered to be lost.

First victory for Sparta in the new world.
But the first real battle, against Thebes will be the real test of this war.

                  For the very interested:
                  Thebes defended by:
                  11 Riflemen (2 weakened: 12.2/14 and 9.1/14)
                  2 Machine Gunners

Korean Army in the South West of Thebes:
                  4 Riflemen (Greek Brigade)
                  4 Cannons (Greek upgrades)
                  3 Macemen
                  1 Knight
                  11 Hwacha

Mayan army in the north-East of Thebes:
                  5 Riflemen
                  3 Longbowmen
                  1 Knight
                  3 Catapults

Mayan army in the South-East of Thebes
                  8 Riflemen (all damaged: 11.2, 9.2, 6.9, 11.2, 4.2, 11.2, 4.2, 4.2 / 14)
                  1 Cannon
                  1 Hwacha

Spartan army south of the 2nd Mayan army
                  4 Machine Gunners
                  4 Rifleman (2 weakened: 11.3, 6.0 / 14)

Sparta army north-West of the 1st Mayan army

                    Birth of a Nation

                    Dawn over Novgorod

                    Good Tidings My Friends,

The Election is over and I, Rostislav Vladimirovich, am the first President of the Russian Republic. My friends and I of the Provisional Government each put ourselves forward to the men of Russia to decide. However we had agreed that having worked together to free Russia from tyranny that we would work together in the re-building of Russia.

My new Prime Minister is the hero of Kiev, Vsevolod Mstislavich, whilst the new Foreign Minister shall be Daniil Aleksandrovich. Sadly our great military leader, Marshal Stanaslanovich, has declined to become Chief of Staff of the Army. He claims that age is the reason but I fear he is in fact just to noble a man not to have regrets over what he sees as a betrayal of his oath to defend the old tyrant but to turn against him, right though it was, and join us in liberating Russia. His successor and other Government appointments will be decided over the coming weeks.

The joy of the people knows no bounds and I sent forth the messengers to inform them of the results of the poll. They are free at last of serfdom and bowing down before the monied classes. Never again will they have to till the fields for a pittance will get fair value for their labours when they bring them to market. Also the land they work is now theirs!

Novgorod is now much repaired but still too war-torn for guests. I would therefore ask that my beloved fellows in the Pax Romanum come visit me for an urgent summit in Petrograd. Xristo, Great leader of our other close neighbour Portugal I also invite as much of which I speak will have meaning to you.

Marcus, I am appalled that you should have been the victim of piracy! However there is more for I am deeply disturbed by the description you give of the vessel that so cruelly sank a defenceless fishing boat. It matches exactly that given to me of the vessel in which the deposed tyrant escaped in! There can be no doubt now as to whom it belongs and that the claws of the most evil nation on earth seem to be spreading longer and bolder.

Fondest Regards my Friends and Brothers in the Fight for a Just World,
                    President Rostislav Vladimirovich

                        Hail President Rostislav Vladimirovich,

Congratulations on your election as President of Russia.

I will embark today on in my personal railway carriage, to cross the new viaduct north of Rome to speed my way to Petrograd.

There is must we should talk about, and the threat to our prosperity and safefy from piracy and subversion from outside must be high on our agenda.

                          Public Announcement from the SRM

The Directors of the newly formed Societas Romanorum Minerorum wish to announce to the world the formation of their company devoted to the harnassing of the world's mineral resources for the benefit of mankind.

The company offices, in Oath City, would welcome contact with any nations who have supplies of Copper, Iron, Coal, Gold or Silver which they are willing to sell. Very good prices paid.

                            Naval War

The land war was defiantly going in favor of the Greek armies with the machine gun playing a major role in Korean/Mayan losses.

                            Thebes survived... barely.

The naval war in the great inland sea was another story.

While the Greeks were exceptionally skilled in the art of land warfare, they were consistently outmatched by the Mayans on the water.

Time and time again Greek frigates sank beneath the waves, outmaneuvered by Mayan warships.

The Mayan frigates stayed just outside the range of Greek ironclads, while picking off everything else in their sights. Mayan ironclads were being produced in mass to deal with the Greek juggernauts.

The Mayan transport fleet sailed untouched, and returned to the Mayan coast to pick up it's next cargo of battle ready riflemen.

The land war was now taken to the Korean city of Pusan, where another showdown of might was inevitable.

Peace talks were in the works however. Pacal Visyava knew that a sustained war between Maya and Greece would be the detriment of both nations. He eagerly awaited a reply from King Orestes.

                                The Handover of New Tikal.

The once mighty city of New Tikal of the Mayan Empire has been officially handed over to the Spainish Empire. Here is the Empress and The King of Sparta at the handing over ceremony.

The Crowd was absolutely thrilled when the giant scissors were handed over to the the Empress and that King to officially declare that New Tikal is officially in Spainish hands. As you can see the crowd was very rowdy and in high spirits.

Afterwards the peoples of Spain and Sparta had a big party to celebrate the friendship that has been shown.
