  • A question of Honor

    The situation:

Player A decides to attack an AI in a MP game. While he is on the offensive, another human player (B) decides to take advantage of it and declares war on player A. There were no prior agreements between the two players. And the only game rule is that you have to wait for the other player to finish that turn after you declare war to avoid the ole "double move/attack" cheat.

Player A felt like that the attack on him while he was attacking an AI was not fair, and not honorable.
Player A also felt that he should have been given a warning (like ten turns) from player B informing him of the upcoming war.
Player B felt that there was no problem with the attack since they had made no agreements, and was just taking advantage of the game situation.

    What do you think
    Keep on Civin'

If it's just a freestyle type of multiplayer game, I'd say it's no problem.
If there are no pre-made agreements, then I don't see the problem.

I agree. Maybe it'd be bad news in a diplogame, but in a regular game, perfectly ok move.

If people want to play polite & civilized, you go diplo (sometimes...)

If you have an AI on your border, even if you are plus 21 in releations with them, they may attack you if you strip your border cities of many of the units to send to war against somebody else

How does Player A know that the AI didn't screaming for help straight away? Player B might have just been assisting a striken ally

Player A is a whiner and fully deserved to have his butt kicked.

Can't believe this is a serious question.

                  I can.

I can't believe that Ming had to ask it though. I thought he was supposed to know all the answers.

In general, I agree with most of the people here, but it does depend on the type of game you're used to playing. If you're expecting a diplo type game or play with a group of people that have unspoken agreements then maybe.
But in a FFA type game, this is typical and expected.

I find it ironic that someone is *****ing about something not being honourable when he was beating up on an AI...perhaps You should start doing something like a 2-3 city elimination so people are more willing to stay around instead of leaving when they realise they suck and don;t know how to play civ?

I'd pretty much expect to be attacked, in that situation. I'm certainly going to be attacking as civ B It's not so much 'taking advantage', actually, as 'ensuring your enemy doesn't get an advantage'. A civ with two capitals relatively early on, and about a third of the total land area of the pangaea, is not something I'm going to voluntarily accept to the east of me

                          Yeah there's that.

Also imagine if its a human instead of the AI you're attacking. When doing this I would expect another Human to take advantage if I give them the chance.
