  • Ozzy the Bateater, ruler of the Metalheads,

Greetings. I welcome contact with you - it is one of the glories of this world that distant nations can now learn more about each other.

I and my advisors enjoyed your parable and recognise much truth in it.

However, we wonder if you are behind on news from our continent. Rome only holds two cities which were previously Pierican, one a major city, the City of the Oath, which all agree was forfeited by the Piercians because of their oath-breaking. The other a small mountainous fort, City of the Guard, necessary to secure the frontier.

We fail to see how these are harsh terms, noting that they are far more kindly than the massed nations who invaded us so recently would have offered, and far more kindly than the terms you offered to the Inca.

And once again we say that while the Piercians breathe only hate and war, it is noble but futile for other nations to try to impose peace upon them. All that we can do is disengage as we have done.

    Greetings from afar, great Ozzy

    Augustus Emperor of Rome

You are more than welcome to settle there, also due to the hash environment on New Portugal I offer you any assistance that your people may require. After all we have had cities there for hundred of centuries and we have grown accustomed to the surroundings.

Lastly but not least, I and my people are very excited to learn that the city will be named after me. I praise your gesture and willingness to change for the better towards Portugal. I will continue my hard work into improving our relations. I hope that by honoring that centuries old private chat never sealed on paper and you today by naming an Khmerian city after me, proves that we are changing and are willing to live in peace and corporation with each other.

Great Tidings mighty ruler of the east!

      Xristo
      Tidings Xristo,

You recount of history more or less correlates with that of our Great Library so let's let that go as argument about the past serves us not.

Khmer appreciates your acceptance and will settle north of the seafood and secure both iron deposits. This will bring us into slight overlap with Portugal and if this is a problem we can settle on the hill North of that spot but it would be good if we could purchase a fishing boat as we are not able to build one in that case.

Also, don't be alarmed at the armies arriving as Xristo City will require considerable defence and mutual protection.

without raking up the past and Khmer's criticism of Portugal over what Khmer saw as covert assistance to Rome centuries ago; but we ask if it is possible for you to use your influence to help restore the soveriegn nation of Percia?

History seems to have gotten quite mirky but our simple understanding is that long ago Rome did attack Russia and took a city using Russia's non-compliance with Portuguse agreements as an excuse. The free nations of the West took action but were sabotaged by your trading of Gunpowder to Rome. This is not to insult you but to distill the basic problem behind Roman expansion.

Can you help. Several nations of Meduian are concerned that a rich cultural nation like Percia that only acted in the interests of others (not herself) is being reduced to a third rate backwater.

Rome would never have been attacked if it were not for the Russian attack.

Maybe Khmer steps out of diplomatic line here but these are my private communications to you, Xristo, ruler of Portugal.

      tidings,

      Suryavarman 2

Now as their ships can cross the ocean the world is changing. Indeed, I have just learnt that they have agreed with the Portugese over settlements in New Portugal. The world is full of enough dangers, do not start to imagine ones that are not there.

Not long ago we settled peace between our nations. Perhaps we ought to flesh out that agreement in more detail to give confidence to us both. But let us build trust and security, not worry and anxiety.

        Your friend,

        Emperor Augustus.
Suryavarman 2 sat back in the Great Library reading new pieces of information as they came to hand.

He was getting quite old now and reflected on his achievements in Meduian. He was a proud fighting man; but one who also enjoyed the Khmer achievements with its new Representative style of governance and the Khmer's underlying eon-long Pacifist nature.

He laughed to himself as he read this.

Was Rome the one imagining dangers!

Just because they are paranoid doesn't mean the Khmer are not out to get them!

        he he

But no, he thought. Rome totally mis judges this 'danger'. Unlike Rome the Khmer has expanded yes, but helped to totally re-distribute land in Meduian so that all nations benefited.

It is true that an unplanned consequence of Khmer's divergance from the Hastings Agreement was the acquisition of a city for the Khmer but this is a mere trifle for the Khmer. It was not secured for any wonders and if it were possible to gift them away he would but Khmer wanted access to the Eastern Sea - the sea of New Sparta. Sushi City provides this access and is conveniently located to provide excellent access. It will remain Khmer.

And with Sparta not sharing it's maps, despite the Khmer bringing the landmass of New Sparta to the Spartan attention, a Khmer shiop now sails to New Sparta with an Explorer on board. Khmer will complate the full mapping of New Sparta herself.

And then head for Japan to improve dipomatic relationsd there.

"Dad, when will I be ruler of Khmer?"

"Son, your time is soon as I prepare to go to the Mausoleum of Shiva and prepare to join my father. But you are still young my son, yet you have not fought in battle and you have much to learn. You must listen to your friends and know who to trust. AND you must listen to the people. You represent the Khmerians."

        • To: Augustus Emperor of Rome
          From: Pacal Voltan

You make good points in your reply to our original missive concerning the Piercian plight. My apologies if my tone in that missive was cause for concern.

You must understand Emperor Augustus, during my lifetime I have seen both Russia and now Piercia lose cities to Rome. During my Grandfathers time, Portugal lost cities to Rome. The spoils of those wars have now made Rome the largest nation in all of Terra, and as a logical man I would be ignorant to dismiss the possibility of Mayan cities becoming the next feather in Rome's hat.

Our other concern is for the proud people of Piercia. Most of them do not hunger for war, but are victims of circumstance and their government. We both know that Piercia is in no position to threaten Rome, even with the return of some captured cities. And despite my hopes of remaining on good terms with Rome, I must say that your fabricated justification for keeping them or gifting them angers me.

I would much rather hear that since Rome was attacked, they have the right to keep their gains. Do not insult the intelligence of others and myself by calling your acquisition a necessary buffer.

Restoring Piercia at least in part would no doubt change the current perception of Rome many nations have. On behalf of the Piercians I humbly ask that you reconsider.

          • The Death of Pacal Voltan and the Birth of Mayan Democracy

Voltan knew his days were numbered, and spent the last of them crafting the new Mayan government. No longer would Maya be ruled by his bloodline. Instead, the destiny of Maya would be put into the hands of the people.

His plan was daring in scope, and revolutionary for it's time.

He started by declaring all Mayan citizens to be equal. This change was very unpopular among pure blood native Mayans who made regular practice of treating Aztecs, Koreans, and even some Greeks living within Maya as second rate citizens. Women as well now had the same rights as their male counterparts.

Emancipation and Universal Suffrage were a long time coming however, as the mushroom made it clear long ago that everyone is of equal value regardless of sex, race, or wealth. This basic Taoist understanding, along with Voltan's ready and loyal military allowed for a bloodless and almost seamless formal transition.

His second announcement to the Mayans was that he would not be assigning a successor to his his throne, but would instead be extending leadership to all citizens. Upon hearing this many initially thought the king to have gone senile, but the explanation that followed verified that despite his physical decline, his mind was as brilliant as ever.

Once a year during the summer solstice, every Mayan citizen over the age of ten was to vote for his cities Governor. A Governor oversaw the city's day to day function, appointed city department heads, and most importantly made the annual journey to Tikal for the Autumn Equinox Assembly Meeting. To minimize corruption, Governors were only allowed to serve one term, although city department heads could and often did serve multiple terms as long as the new Governor did not replace them.

The Autumn Equinox Assembly Meeting held in Tikal at the newly constructed Capital Building was where the issues of the year were discussed among the Governors and any department heads they brought with them. The purpose of this was not to come to decisions about the issues, but to define the issues and put them into voteable terms. A "Pacal" (the position named in honor of the royal family) was appointed by the Taoist Church, and served as the house speaker. The Pacal brought order and organization to the meeting which at times could become heated and even borderline chaotic.

At the close of the Autumn Equinox Assembly Meeting each Governor was given the official list of voteable issues to take back to their respective cities. On the winter solstice these issues were voted on by all eligible citizens, the total votes tallied by hand in open air, and the results taken back to Tikal for the Spring Equinox Assembly Meeting.

At the Spring Equinox Assembly Meeting the Pacal would announce the issues and the Governors would reply one by one with the total vote results from their respective cities. These totals would be compiled by the Pacal to culminate in a national total which would be announced as the official ruling on the issue. Once the issues were ruled upon, it was the responsibility of the Governors to carry these results back to their cities, and enact them.

The only facet of Government controlled strictly on a national level was the military, which was commanded by the Pacal. It's purpose was two fold. It was to defend Maya from foreign invaders and act offensively when called upon to do so by the people. It also was responsible for physically keeping order at the Equinox Meetings and ensuring that the Governors were operating their cities in accordance with the will of the people.

For the first three years after announcing this democratic government, Voltan acted as the Pacal. Not surprisingly, most of the votes were landslides as the teachings of Taoism often made the decision on most issues clear. The people embraced the concept of voting, and those issues that were controversial often became a source of social bonding with philosophical discussion meetings being held among the people on a nightly basis.

Voltan saw his government flourish, and it became his most proud invention. He felt at peace knowing that the Mayan people, with the guidance of Taoism, would control their own destiny.

One quiet and moonlit night, Pacal Voltan slipped out from his royal chambers and walked to the inner circle of Stonehenge to join his father and all Mayans before him. He laid upon the grassy ground, closed his tired eyes, and passed into the next world with a satisfied smile on his face.

            • To: Augustus of Rome
CC: All nations known to us

              Greetings, warlord,

As it may have come to your attention, I, Es'Ther Per'Hyl have become the new Aun'O of the Piercian Empire. This public letter will be among my first mesures.

I am convinced that simply accepting the results of the path of destruction your troops left would not be in the best interest of my Empire. All dignitaries of the Empire have sworn not to stop the war until Horse Valley, Le'O and Rough Kho'per are piercian again. All those who disagreed have been executed.

But we are no fools. We admit the superiority of your military and economy. The city of Mee'Ting, holding a wonder and a great merchand looks like an apropriated price to us.

You try to justify your capture of Rough Kho'Per by saying that Mee'Ting is hardly defendable. This is ridiculous. Meeting is on a hill next to a river so it is very well defendable. Therefore we do not recognize your occupation of Rough Kho'Per.

You try to justify your caputure of Le'O and Horse Valley by saying that they would be used to produce more troops for the war. Those cities didn't hold any military infrastructure. Therefore we do not recognize your occupation of those cities, and de facto, the transfer to Wyandot ownership.

Rumors say that you have razed the city of Le'O. If those should happen to be true, we expect Mee'Ting back.

We apologize for the silence caused by the change of leadership and hope that words can prevent a tragic turnout of this war.

Undo the excessive damage you have done and we will let Mee'Ting become Oath City.

              • Pirates in the Bay of Athens

Because peace lingered in the Spartan cities, nobody was prepared for an invasion of the unknown.
In the early spring a pirate ship was sighted, not far away from the Bay of Athens.

Athens, being the largest and scientific city of the Spartan city States, was obviously well defended. The fishers of Athens were protected by a well promoted galley.
This galley immediately headed towards the pirates, trying to block the entrance of the bay.

With the famous Oxford University in it's back, the brave sailors were ready to gain advantage by using their strategical position and their experience.
Both galleys closed in to each other.
Arrows were shot, hooks were trowed at each other.

Then suddenly the Captain, Astonas, was hit by an arrow, directly in his heart.
He died on the deck immediately. All soldiers were shocked.
The pirates abused this moment of horror to enter the famous Athenian galley, murder all the sailors and soldiers, and sank the ship.

The pirates saw the rich bay of Athens in front of them.
They did not take any time to repair the heavy damages done to them by the Athenian galley.

In the meanwhile all clocks were ringing in Athens.
The fishers were called back from the bay.
But they had no time to take their nets with them.
There was fear that the pirates would ruin all of them.

                What to do?
Quickly it was decided that with the technology Sparta had received from the Maya, a new ship should be constructed, a Galleon.
This ship should be able to defeat the pirates and restore peace in the bay again.

All special scientists who were studying in the library, the academy, the university and the Oxford University, where called to the docks.
The production capacity of Athens was raised by 300%.
Would they be able to finish the Galleon in time before the pirates would enter the harbour?

But the pirates had the wind in their sails, and in only a few days they were able to the harbour of Athens, not being able to be challenged by any ship.
In a very arrogant way the galley totally blocked the harbour, destroyed the fishing nets and many fisher boats.

The people of Athens stood on the shores, shocked.
They saw it with their own eyes, but were not able to do anything about it.

The day after the new galleon was finnished, but the pirates where gone already.
They had heard the rumours about the gigantic galleon, and had fled the bay.
The galleon lay in the bay for a few hours, being prepared to hunt the pirates and find new shores.

The presence of the Galleon gave a secure feeling to the Athenians.
Now they were well prepared and would not have to see the horrors of the past day ever again.
The sailors and soldiers that entered the ship where cheered at.
                They felt like heroes!
The heroes that would hunt down the murderers of the sailors and soldiers of Athens.

When the ship sailed away, tens of thousands Athenians waved them goodbye.
A little bit nervously they looked at the impressive ship, while it sailed away.

But this time luck was against the pirates.
Not again they would be able to defeat all odds and kill any more Athenians.
The winds where in the back of the Galleon, that quickly saw the, still damaged, galley on the horizon.
With a few arrows most pirates where killed.
Then the captain steered the galleon directly into the side of the galley, which immediately broke the ship in two parts.
The pirates sunk, none was able to save his life.
                All Athenians cheered!

Never again would the bay of Athens have to face such a horror again.
Back in Athens everyone was working on restoring the fishing boats and the nets.
The scientists where still working in the harbours. There was no difference between a simple wood crafter or the highest scientist of the city. They worked side by side. They encouraged each other. Both being citizen of the great City State of Athens.

In the meanwhile in Sparta it was decided that the events in Athens had shown that people where very well able themselves what to produce, and how to produce it.
Orestes there for decided, together with the representatives of all City States, that from now on not the central authority in Sparta or the City States, would decide what goods to be crafted, but the people on the streets themselves were allowed to require what they needed, and shops and industries were allowed to produce whatever they thought was in their best interest.

The victorious Galleon of Athens would become the Famous Example of how this Free Market would work! In times of trouble, people would work together to produce what they needed! The Galleon of Athens!

This new age did not only achieve military dominance on the seas, south of Athens, or in the fields of the economy.
There was also a painter, Vincent van Gogh, who became famous!
He painted many artworks of the events of Athens! (depicted in this news article!)

Many came from all corners of Sparta to look in awe at his paintings!
Not only did he create paintings, he also encouraged people to make plays and songs. "It should be possible to live of art!" he claimed.
The cultural revolution that erupted was absolutely a gift from Vincent van Gogh.
Some say that was Van Gogh himself who discovered the art of Drama.

Anyway, it showed to the world that even when the scientists of Athens are not studying in their academies and universities, still great scientific progress would be made in Athens!

The economy of Sparta started to flourish more and more.
Some people claimed that Sparta now had the 2nd economy in the world.
Orestes was praised for the fortune he gave to Sparta.

                • Greetings, Emperor Augustus of Rome.

I write you with mixed feelings of friendship and sorrow.
First of all I have to remind you that the peace between our two great nations has been very warmed our hearts.
The people of Sparta enjoy these days of peace.
I also want to remind you that we do back you up in your war against the Piercians.

It's been Sparta that seeked closer relations with Rome, to prevent new catastrophic wars as we have had in the past
But now I can't do anything but freeze all talks we have about closer relations between Sparta and Rome. I hope that this pause in our dialogue will only be short, and we can continue these talks soon again.

But first I must express the reason of this sorrow to you fist.
We have been informed about your victories in the Piercian lands.
Even though we do congratulate you on your achievements, I cannot try to express clearly enough that Sparta cannot backup the peace terms you have delivered to the new leaders of Piercia.

Being betrayed by their former regime, the Piercians have removed their former leaders. The Piercians have even accepted that the loss of their city of Mee'ting must be their price for peace.
But no you desire the Piecians to give up 3 or 4 more cities!
That's a price way to heigh!

It may sound very honourable that you give these cities to the Wyandots, but this is just too much.
I once again want to send the proposal that was thought to be acceptable by both Portugal and Sparta, not that long ago.
The city of Meeting should be the price the Piercians have to pay for their oath breaking, including their losses on the battlefields and the losses in their cities, that are now being occupied by Roman forces.

If you wish a secure zone between Rome and Piercia, then I suggest you to give the city of Mee'ting to the Wyandots.
That way you can show your honourable nature, and create a secure border, including your wish to place the Wyandots between Piercia and Rome.

If this is acceptable to you, then Sparta is willing to promise Rome to come to their aid if the Piercians once again in the future will try to invade Roman territory again.

Give the Piercians a chance to rebuild their nation.
Let them try to get rid of the past of their evil leaders, like Rome once asked the world to forgive them the acts of the evil dictators of Rome in the past.
You should know most of all how it is to rebuild a nation, being grabbed out of the cold dead hands of evil dictators.

You will be known forever as Augustus Caesar,
Defeater of the Mayans and the Piercians
Peace bringer to Athens and Russia
                  Helper of the Wyandots
And the gracious giver of mercy to the Piercians.

That's better then Augustus, who tried to grab as much as possible from the Piercians.

With warm feelings, mixed by sorrows,

                  King Orestes of Sparta

                  • Near the Takeda/Uesugi boarder...

Since Norimasa Uesugi took control over the north he had spent most his time and effort to fortifying Ansuji (other wise known as serenity) from the nearly endless Barbarian attacks. When they were not fending off attacks the Uesugi Samurai where busy clearing out new area's to settle. Farther south of Ansuji, on the western peninsula he had another force slowly approaching a barbarian city. This city needed to be taken out to ensure safety and stability in the region so it was key for him to take it out.

The only other who know what was going on was Sozin Takeda, leader of the Takeda clan. Sozin wanted to extend his reach north and eliminate the Uesugi once and for all so he sent his son Shingen Takeda (named after the founder of the Takeda clan) with his commanders to attack the unsuspecting Uesugi. What he didn't know was that Norimasa was not a fool and had already sent his son Kenshin Uesugi to defend the border. The stage was now set for what would be the deciding battle for Japan.

                    Takeda main camp...

Shingen sat with his war council awaiting the arrival of his scouts. Three hours passed and the scouts returned. My lord, said one of the scouts. There is a large camp on the edge of the Uesugi boarder. From what I saw there are at least 25,000 samurai, 15,000 crossbows, 6 catapults, and 5 war elephants. Shingen then noticed one of the scouts was missing. Where is Cagato? he said looking around. Yet he was nowhere to be found. He thought to himself, If Cagato is not here that must mean he was caught. If he was caught that means they already know we are coming. For all we know they may have many more troops then my scouts have reported. I must be careful or I will loss this battle. He turned to his scouts, Go back to Kyoto, tell my father of the situation and hurry. The scouts left and Shingen called for his war council.

                    The next morning...
                    Takeda encampment
Shingen was wakened by the trembles of the earth. What is going on? he yelled out. His second in command ran to his tent. My lord we are under attack by catapult fire. What are your orders? Arm the men and move into the forest. That should provide us with enough cover to regroup, said Shingen. His second ran off and he quickly put on his armor and ran out to meet up with the others.

                    Uesugi staging area
Lord Kenshin we have begun our attack. As you predicted they have entered into the forest, said one of Kenshin Uesugi's captains. Good, said Kenshin, Tell General Mori to move his crossbows into position and to wait for the signal before he attacks. The captain ran off and moments later arrived at the edge of the forest where General Mori was. Mori was given his orders and he moved all his crossbows high atop the trees on special platforms, which were hard to see from the ground but where great spots for picking off units on the ground. Meanwhile Kenshin set orders for his war Elephants to move west and keep hidden until he gave the order to move. All that was now left was the mass of Samurai and spearmen who waited for the enemy to come.

                    Center of the Forest...

Shingen walked to his commanders, What is the situation? One of the commanders answered. My lord we have lost 10% of our forces. Our men are not all fully armed and the Trees are only providing little cover. We have found spots further north that the catapults are not hitting. It is most likely it is a trap but we are given no other option, said another commander. Shingen looked at the men then spoke. We will be falling into their trap but we are still here for a reason. Continue north as quickly as possible we must arrive with our forces still intact. The Takeda forces moved on they all reached the end of the forest unharmed.

There, standing alone on top of the hill was Kenshin. He lifted his hand, turned around, and waled away. The Takeda forces were confused then seemingly out of now where a dark cloud of arrows fell upon the troops like drops of heavy rain. Those fast enough to raise their shields survived the first volley quickly set fire to the forest to flush out the Crossbows. Now they were down to less then half yet Shingen was determined to win at any cost. He lead the charge over the hill where Kenshin was waiting. The battle didn’t last long but the Takeda fought honorably and to the last man.

                    On the battle field...

Kenshin looked over the remains of Shingen and his men. He was glad he did not have to use his elephants but he wondered where they where. “Commander where are the Elephants and the Crossbows?” said Kenshin. Moments later the commander returned. “Sir they are all dead.” A captain ran to Kenshin. “Sir, Sir the Oda...” Kenshin yelled at the captain.”What are you trying to say?” “ Sir while we fought the Takeda the Oda attacked all of use. They whipped out the Imagawa, assassinated Sozin Takeda and now have full control over the capital, they have killed your father, and Oda Nobunaga’s forces have now surrounded.” Before Kenshin could say anything the Oda forces charged in. The Uesugi forces where caught completely off guard and where quickly defeated. Kenshin and his commanders escaped back to Tokyo where he committed suicide over his loss.

                    • King Orestes of Sparta, Friend

I have read your message with interest.

Before I answer it, could you answer two questions for me:

                      1. When you, the Piericans and two other nations invaded Rome (who my scientists tell me ranked three times that of Rome in 'score') what was the outcome you aimed at? Actions at the time and pronouncements here, suggest that as a group of allies you were intended to destroy or capture at least five Roman cities, and in all likelihood more. A straightforward answer to that question might help me put in context your concern at my holding of two former Piercian cities.

                      2. When the Incan people were recently completely and utterly destroyed, with neighbours taking for themselves every Incan city, what complaints or concerns did you raise?

A speedily and clear reply to these two questions will allow me to answer your questions of me.

                      Your friend,

                      Augustus.

P.S. well done on your great military victory over a galley.

                      • Greetings, Emperor Augustus, Friend of Sparta,

First of all I have to thank you for your kind words regarding the Athenian galley incident!
Eventhough I was hardly involved, and the pirate-fighting was mostly an Athenian situation, I do admit that I'm very proud of these achievements!
I'm glad to see that even the great and far away Romans are being entertained by our great naval achievements!

Now to answer your fair questions.
I have studied the archives of Archelaus, my predecessor.
Archelaus was not much of a talker or a writer. He didn't leave me much archives to study. Therefore it fortunately only took me 10 minutes to study these archives completely. Together with what the left over scribes of those days told me, I can conclude that Sparta in the days of Archelaus wanted to destroy one of the Roman cities and besiege a 2nd city.

I don't know what the Mayans and the Piercians were up to. That's their responsibility.
But Sparta had never the intention to bring great destruction to Rome. We brought only a small unit of soldiers to Rome, for some small missions.

If we would have succeeded we would've token 1 city from you, and maybe 2.
Since Rome has about 18 cities, that would've been about 10% of the Roman cities, while we had the intention to return 1 city to Rome after it would've accepted our terms. (the ancient gold!)
Fortunately we never had to bring it that far, and our troops never clashed on the battle fields. I am glad that we were able to find a solution without spilling any blood.

I do feel sorry for my predecessor wanting to raze a Roman city.
I don't think that killing innocent women and children is the right thing to do, but Archelaus had other ideas about that. I can only respect that, and chose different now.

                        2. We have never met any of those incan people everybody talks about.
I don't know about this situation, but to answer your question, yes, if I would've been aware, I would've certainly tried to help to mediate between these Incans and their many enemies.

But I'm not keen into entering politics of war far from Sparta.

Now I have answered your question, my friend, I hope that you can answer mine.
I don't think that I asked something unacceptable from you, certainly not because it offers you a secured western border.

                        Orestes
                        King of Sparta

                        • To: All leaders

Hail to all nations of all civilizations, known and unknown, close to Sparta and far away!

We've heard rumours from cities far away and nearby, that some peoples in this world may consider to give equal freedom to all people! Even women and foreigners, ex-slaves and gays are supposed to receive equal rights! This is unacceptable.
This is starting a new wave of unrest in the world, and in the Spartan city states.
People start to talk about their 'rights' and their 'votes'.
The word 'emancipation' was invented, and some are researching it.

Sparta cannot tolerate that the politics in foreign nations will start an uproar over here in Sparta or other civilized nations.
This is therefore a formal request to all nations on earth: Stay away as far as possible from this so called "Emancipation"

I call all wise leaders to back me up and fight the call for emancipation together!

                          • Hello King Orestes,

I would like to back you up in preventing emancipation spreading around the world. I am against this, thus you have my full support here. I can not allow foreign nations to disturb Portugal’s domestic life. Dear King Orestes as you may know Portugal was the only country for many years now that could implement this so called emancipation form of government. Knowing the riots that this would have caused to our foreign friends like the Spartans, I have declined to adopt it.

Last but not least King Orestes, I think that the great Suryavarman 2 of Khmer has requested that no one adopts this as well.

                            • Tidings Great Suryavarman 2,

I have already stated together with Sparta my feelings towards the southern war. The city of Meetings is a wonderful prize for Rome’s great victories. I have witnessed the Romans time and again pled with the Oath Breakers to make peace. Once they destroyed the Oath Breakers invasion armies, the Romans took Meeting and asked for peace. There was no request for peace on the Oath's part. The only statement the Oaths made was something about having a decision later on. Was this an attempt to buy time or to make behind the scenes deals I do not know. But Rome made it clear that if they do not receive a reply they will continue their push into the enemy territories. I do not know of any general that will allow an already proven and untrustworthy nation to be allowed to play more sneaky games. So Rome pushed on, then the Oath Breakers responses were statements of endless wars and retributions.

I understand Rome wanting to destroy all possible military resistance, after all these armies would have come back to fight another day. Also lets do not forget that Portugal was once a mediator between the Oath Breakers and Rome. I still wonder why did the old rulers of Portugal even bother with investing so much work, when one of the participants was already gearing up for an invasion.

                              • Greetings Suryavarman 2

Welcome to New Portugal, my scouts have already reported that the Khmerian settlers have arrived. About settling the city, well that is up to your local planners. I agree that an overlap may exist if you settle on the coast. I just need to give you heads up about that Portugal city closest to you, is has some strong cultural influence in those lands. The city has been there for 900 years and has developed very well through the centuries. So please be advised, when planning the location. Maybe north on the hills will be safer. If a boat is needed we will deliver one for a price, due to distance it may need 20 plus cycles to arrive.

Thank you for the advance notice on your military buildup near Xristo city. I hope that you do not plan on bringing more units. I see no reason for such a great concentration of units. Currently Khmer has more than enough to deal with any barbaric threats. Also if need be, Portugal will be more than happy to aid its new neighbors. Also for the record and to honor from long time ago Khmer’s and Portugal’s recognition of settled lands, I fully recognize the city of Xristo as Khmerian domain.

My people look forward to leaving in peace and corporation with yours.
