  • Feel free to talk about your OOC opinions on the latest IG events, rather then spamming up the story thread (no offense meant of course).

Personally i think all of this trouble spices the game up a little bit. I agree on it beeing a little more boring since the last portuguese-roman war :P

    • I agree, let's keep our OOC comments and obnoxious statements to this thread please.

      • The top civs are doing nothing to interfer with eac hothers growth to scared it will allow a smaller civ tyo move up the rung i think

If the game is only going to bw about growth for the top civs and the occasional war between big civ and little civ then the game is pointless.

little civs can have no impact on larger ones as you need a huge army to do antthing in civ4..

no small civ will have a n army big enough.

Rome has multiple great defenders and attackers in each of its citys as if a smal lciv like oldonia coulsd actualy d oanything to them, a few berzerkers can not take one city.

        • This is true - But it is up to the bigger civs to try and make the playing field more even.

They need to "battle-it-out" amost themselves, if you will.

BUT: Lower Civs constantly complaining about the difference...will it gets, just ANOYING.

          • Oh, and on that same topic - I for one, am getting really tired of the upper civs coming to ME for support. I mean what the F*ck?!? You are the bad boy on the block = Lets see your stuff. Why in the hell would you even consider asking a lower-5 ranked civ for support?

I myself, consider that just RUDE. (and I am being nice)

            • yes rome stop asking for the wyandots to protect you...

              • Rome has never asked us for any kind of support - Hense why the Wyandots trust Rome as a good neighbor.

                    • Well, personally I don't think diplogames should turn into charity games. If a nation doesn't want to help a smaller one that is their decision, and they will simply have to deal with the political ramifications of their actions. It is up to other nations to decide how they wish to react. So I don't think anyone is obligated to do anything in particular.

If Rome doesn't want to help smaller nations, so be it. If Greece wants to champion smaller nations, so be it. It is called sovereignty.

And I try to separate what happens in game from personal attitudes towards people outside of the game (ie when it comes to voting, or here in OOC threads), so we should all try and do that. As that was the original reason for being anonymous to begin wtih.

                      • Yes - I concur Korea. However, I find it amusing that all the weaker civs are turning to Rome as the "Big Dog" and major threat...I just don't see it.

You all do realize that Rome is currently in 3rd place?

All of this anguish towards Rome....what do you all think about the civs in 2nd and 1st place then???

(especially the 1st place leader - Suryavarman 1)

Rome should not be our current worry....

                        • OOC

                          Two thoughts:

                          1. Natives - I couldn't agree more that all this 'Rome is the big enemy' is wierd given that Rome is a long way from being the most powerful or technologically advanced nation, and yes is 3rd in score, but flips to 4th occassionally. Why? Well yes partly because I have started wars. Mainly though because Sparta has decided to hate me and is such a good player in diplomacy ( him). Frustrating in game for me, but OOC great to see. Given that he is at the opposite side of the world to me - war as the Vikings want is really not feasible until a more modern age - in the meantime, he is managing a great job of trying to wrestle my third place in score from me.

                          2. On the small nations point. I have sympathy here - I am all for this game being a fun game, not boring. However again there are some awkward realities.
                          * One is land - except for me and portugal (who have fought before, though never again hey Marco ) none of the currently higher score powers share a land border, so until technology improves to allow serious naval campaigns, the only way they could fight would be through the territory of a smaller nation. Hence their involvement. (OK Piercia is now hugely more powerful and I share a land border with them).
                          * The other is from my point of view the Khmer. From where I see it there is one super power, and then a number of middle rated ones (well done mr khmer whoever you are ). But the super power is on its own continent and can't be attacked. If the middle ranked powers on the other continent keep fighting each other, we fall further behind the Khmer. Good for the Khmer (and notice how they do try to weaken the 2nd and 3rd score powers, to keep themselves a very clear 1st) but not for the rest of us.

And I'm not sure that things are as bad as some suggest. Rome has not been able to just squash Russia - mainly due to the Rus' superior fighting skills ( them) but also because of the international pressure. There is lots of support for small nations.

Maybe the truth is really just that at a day a turn the game moves slowly, and the map is big so distances are long - after all Sparta is at war with Rome, but it will just take a few weeks real time for them to arrive.

(Saying all this, I'll probably log on now and find a new Piercian-Portugese alliance has invaded Rome overnight).

So why do you think Khmer has been difficult and antaganistic towards Portugal and Rome? And note Rome's comments on this.

we've had no open borders with them ever; and so far no trades.

I feel resonsible to the game to balance it out if possible - hence actual tech gifting and other free support by Khmer and also trading techs for vouchers even though not strategically sensible.

So are we playing a game contrived by rankings?

                              OR

Are we playing a game in the context of the vision of civilization development?

                              ---

In 1000AD how can a nation half a world away be a realistic concern in terms of the current history of your neighbours?

It's a great shame that we can't play without the score being visible. It's largely bs anyway (a few wonders and techs and fluff pop makes the difference - big deal)
