  • It has been decided Pinchak makes the map, so it would be a little unfair to change now that he has begun working on it.

I like the regional idea you have about starting locations.

        • I like the idea, but I think it's not really fair if only 1 civ can settle a city and meet the other civs.

Player 12 hasn't picked his civ within 34 hours, Player 13 can pick his civ now

Player 12 can also still pick his civ.
So both player 12 and 13 can pick their civs now.
In fact I just bypassed Player 12, he can pick his civ whenever he comes online. Untill that we just continue from 13 on.

(Player 12 has visited Apolyton, but didn't read his PM)

The reality of it is that 18 different people are never going to be able to agree a map type. I have noted several suggestions and will incorporate them into the map (and then some).

            Here is a question though...

I will be placing the starting locations last. These will be totally random (they will be assigned a number, not a civ). We will have to devise some way of randomly assigning them.

HOWEVER, an idea I had was to have certain "numbers" assigned to certain terrain types (ie. 1,2,3,4 = arid, 5,6,7,8,9 = temperate, 10,11,12 = jungle, etc...)

In this way, certain civs would get terrain that is historicly accurate to their civ. (ie. egypt, persia, arabia, and ethiopia would randomly be assigned starting locations from the 1,2,3,4 pool. Maya, Aztecs, Inca would be assigned starting locations from the 10,11,12 pool).

Of course the above is just an example of what I am talking about. It would be tailored based on what we end up with as civ choices. A neat side effect of this setup would be that like civs would tend to start in proximity of each other (ie. China, Japan, and Korea would be in roughly the same area, as opposed to spread out all over the map). This could be further emphisised by breaking the "pools" down by racial type. (ie. the temperate numbers are divided into europian and oriental).

Just an idea... let me know what you guys think of it.

I would love this! But I would suggest that you talk to Ozzy as well, he did a great job with the HOTW12 map, and I think the kind of terrain "realism" he used would work out great.

That's a problem in deed. But that city would most probably be a BIG burden to that civ's economy (somewhere in the arctic ice, not so nice at this point in the game). And they can only meet, or exchange techs, not ressources and can't get commerce routes.

Also its usefullness would only be untill another civ discovers optics. They could also allow ships of other nations to pass, for a price.

I think it is well balanced.

Also there should be several spots in the world where building canals ought to make sense.

                • Show that you are worthy...

Attention newcomers and veteran players returning after a long hiatus!

We need a sub for HOTW12, this is a good opportunity for all pitboss sign ups, since you should, before committing to this game be absolutely sure this is what you want. With 18 players a droop out or two are not critical but they would be highly annoying. There are lots of people (including the thread ghost ) who would love to join this game and can’t because we choose you. Please demonstrate that our trust in you is not misplaced and play for a few hours. It should be very fun, and if it isn’t then this pitboss game won’t be either.

The game is played Saturday evening USA and Sunday morning Europe.

Yes, I truely hope all who have joined are prepared to participate in the diplomacy/story/voting aspect of this game... AND are comfortable with a 2 year+ commitment.

This isn't your fly by night public server multiplayer game. If you don't have the passion or commitment for this level of play then please step aside now and make room for others who do.

                    Noted and will be incorporated.

This has not been incorporated into the map yet, but I think it should be. As long as nobody hands down objects then I will put it in. Keep in mind that this "ice bridge" would be one of the "compensations" I mentioned earlier for civs starting in a cool location. (Also realize that when i say "cool location" it will not be completely tundra and ice, but will have some included. This should not be discouraging to players however, as certain resourses will be exclusive to these terrain types to offset their initial lower value).

Personally, I don't consider being able to reach the "others" a big advantage. Everything you could do with these "new found" civs you can do with the civs on your landmass. Is there some sort of advantage I am just not seeing?

PS: Cyber, not sure if we plan on releasing the civ choices after all players have picked, but if we indeed want to go with my "regional starting locations" then I will need to know them so I can incorporate this concept approprately.

A real winner (like me) would like to know on top of whom he's going to be
