  • Want to volunteer to collect civ selections?

Also, a sub is needed for this Saturday night in HOTW XII, you'd be great if you could help out.

      • I'm not bothered either way with regards to Anon civs, although I do feel the need to point out that the organisational overhead may result in more work than benefit.

As for the Next War mod... any mod that simply makes the game longer (ie doesn't stop at 2050) but doesn't affect the earlier gameplay is fine by me...

Although, it has been mentioned that the space race may be affected. In my book that is not so good, since BtS has finally brought the Space Race in line with the Civ2 method (launch the ship and wait to see who arrives first - as opposed to insta-win upon launch). This makes the Space Race a viable tactial part of the game, since a ship launched sooner could still take longer to arrive. Plus it's now possible to lose even if you build and launch a winning ship...

        • The anon thing may be a bit too huge for 18 civs to organise.
Maybe we should just drop it and play the normal way.

I've asked Ming if he could gather the civs. No response yet.
It's quite a big task. Remember that the first 7 civs may go without problems. After that the double civs will pile up.

          • I'm sure Ming has enough stuff to worry about. We should find a diplogamer who isn't in this game to take the task.

            • Well, you all know the easiest fix to this problem is to assign all players as "RANDOM" and have done with it. But of course, the civs we didn't want in the game would possibly be in the game....but with 18 players, I'm thinking this is the best answer.

True, players would not get get their civ choice - but neither would anyone else.

I'm thinking just placing everyone as "random" is the best solution to the current problem.

              • How about setting to Random, but giving each player one (and only one) veto in case they get a civ that they really don't want to play?

In my case, I know exactly who I would pick if given the choice, but I would be willing to play what I'm given if we use random.

                • It really isn't that complicated. We just need a third party to collect the civ choices. We've got the order. We definitely shouldn't do random.

That is what I am thinking is the best way to solve the situation is that the order of players that we have randomly chosen be the order that we get the random civs. So that mean I will get position two in the rank and so on. I have done this on another game and it worked well. That was the Game were Toni did very well and was going to win. Unfortunately I had opportunity to be much stronger, but let that slip from my grasp. SO I vote for random being the best way to get civs. This way it gives an element of uncertainty and forces people to lay a way that is different from their normal style.

This will solve the need for needing to have a third party for the civ choices.

                        • umm what civs are note wanted in the game and why. i have read a few posts here regarding unwanted civs.

I am quite happy for a random civ as it doesnt affect my style regardless of civ, i only know one way to play and civ traits never come into it, in fact i think it sucks that certain civs get special units and different techs to start with. so unfair. but regardless, just pick a civ for me.

                          • One issue with random civs particular to diplogames is that the story and role playing is such a big part of it. Some people pick a civ not just based on their traits but based on which civs have interesting histories to build a storyline around. For my part I am much less likely to pick someone like the Zulu or Sumerians regardless of traits for just this reason.

This isn't like a regular game.

But if people want to do random civs, I'll go with the majority. Just count my vote against it.

                            • Count my vote against it as well. Do you really want to get stuck writing storys for a civ you can't stand?

As I write this, my home is in shambles (moving). It looks as if I won't have internet until the 12th. I might get it sooner but as of now that is the day.

I will be PMing my civ choices to Wittlich. Not sure what method we will be using to pick, but I give permission for Witt to pick for me based on my privite message. Maybe you guys could wait till i get back? Geez the timing of this move sucks...

I also agree with Cyber that anon might be too unruly for this many players. At the end of the day however it is really his call since he would be the one stuck with setting it up.

Also, never fear, even without internet I can work on the map.

And above all, don't start without me!

Ok, I think that is it. I'm going to disconnect my computer now and load it into the car. See you all again on the 12th.

                              Over and out.......

                              • Not to worry about Pinchak - I have received his desperate message.

I am fine with once I choose my civ, I look around and choose Pinchak's (if he is not available) - please, it is not like I would know that he is starting right next to me or not so....this should not be a big problem.

Does anyone have any heartburn with this idea?
