  • WarningU2 Signs Up

I would be interested in participating in this game. Whiplash has referred me to this thread.

Please let me know if there is room for one more?

        • I have more posts though.

What are y'all's thoughts on settings?

Has everyone read through the Diplogame FAQ? And/or read through past/current diplogames to get a sense of how they operate?

CS is even more senior still. Since Mar 99 to be precise. :P

            • Maybe we should try to get someone who wants to tweak the map!
I'll tweak the map if you guys don't mind a player having knowledge of the map layout. Shouldn't matter too much any way if we are going with a panagea layout.

As I mentioned before, I will not save any version of it for me to reference, and can also set up the starting locations, then have everyones starting location chosen by random. This way I wouldn't be able to set myself up so to speak.

I think you guys would really like what I have in mind. Panagea with a twist or two.

Put your trust in ol' Pinchak and I promase high quality.

              • Regarding a start date...

I will be moving this weekend, so if I am hosting then it won't be for at least 2 weeks. Personally, I think we should wait for the final patch. Anyone have an ETA on this?

Regarding civ selection and starting location...

Draw names from a hat. Order in which names are drawn determines civ pick order.

The tweeked map should have numerically assigned starting locations. The civ pick order coresponds to these locations. For instance, if you get to choose your civ third, then you also get the #3 starting location.

                • One more quick thing...

We need to decide on the scoring system. I like the idea of having some sort of point system based on voting. This encourages people to post quality stories and engauge in diplomacy.

The full Ozzy point system might be a bit much for newcommers to diplogames. At the same time there are parts of it that should be implemented.

This needs further discussion, as does the settings. Simply using the default settings is too simple a choice for a game of this magnitude. Perhaps a vote thread for settings and other undecided aspects of the game?

We do have some time before we start (we don't even have 18 players yet).

                  One last suggestion...

What do you guys think about using the Next War mod? Nothing changes until the end game, and even then it is pretty much just additional buildings and units. Could make for a very interesting conclusion.

                  • I for one, have a problem with not using "official" Civ approved patches/MODs.

For myself, I have an absolute aversion to them - until they are brought into the "official" fold.

If this game is going to use an "unofficial" patch or mod...then by nature, I will have to duck out of it, since I would not agree being involved in a game were the total and hidden rules are NOT known by all parties.

                    • No mods please. I still not aware of all the stuff in normal civ without having to learn about Modded stuff.

Pangea map will mean little need of naval warfare. So a minimum of two continents would be better to allow some sort of naval events.

As an inexperience player i would like some help with selecting a suitable civ. i have no idea what one to pick. The one thing i hate about civ is too many different leaders that have diff traits which all lead to different things, means such an uneven game , but obviously makes for variety.

                      So any tips are welcome

                      • I'm fine with Pinchak tweaking the map.
If he wins the game we just blame him for peaking at the map, if he doesn't win there's no problem

Maybe a 2 continents map is cool, maybe even 3 continents. Naval invasions may be cool indeed. We've haven't had a 2 continent conflict in diplogames for ages.
Let's just make sure that the continents can be reached by galley/trireme.

A mod would be cool, but I think it's pretty hard to organise it, so let's just stick with the official 3.13.

No ETA on the next patch.

                        • Mod?

The ETA for the "final" patch was first quarter 2008. I'm not even convinced that there will be another patch. If there is, it will be backward compatible anyway.

I have a fondness for snakey continents arch maps.

                          • Maptype can be anything but Pangea and i'll be fine with it. Pangea leads to linear games in deed.

No mod's seems to be required in order to avoid organisation issues.

As for leader/civ selections... i think the fairest option is what Pinchak suggested.

I would enjoy playing without leader restrictions anyway (keeping in mind that there would not be same leader or civ twice). But i understand if anyone would dislike this.

On the other hand, i see no reason to exclude Capac, Bismark or Elisabeth. They are strong, but not overpowered, especially if there is a Genghis next to them :P.

I never played non-cooperative MP, and i wonder about vassal states. Can a player civ become vassal to another one ? If so, we should put a restriction here, in order to prevent someone from getting 5 vassals or so...

                            • From what i see we got good possible hosts like: CS, Whip[lash, Beta to start the game. Also what's wrong with 15 players

                              Good points Vampgelus

Cont map will add more to the game I agree, so i am flexible with this.

                              • So if no ETA on the next patch lets start with the civs picking - Pinchak's way.

So he can start working on the map.
