I'd very much enjoy participating in this game. I have run 3 pitboss games to conclusion, each taking about 7 months.

    Sign me up!

PS: Somewhere here I saw a thread asking about PitBoss and what port is used. The answer is that it uses 2056 by default; but this can be changed by editing the .ini file.

PSS: If you want one turn per day, set the timer for a little less. The timer doesn't run while a player is entering the game and runs slow while players are in the game. Setting the timer at 22 hours in my 16 player game pretty much resulted in 24 hours in actuality. 21 hours might be a good value for 18 players.

Remember you are talking about 18months of play at the fast speed. How many years are you planning to devote time to play a marathon speed game?

Why not take a few of you and put up a game to get the feel of what you want before you make the committment to the big project? The idea is wonderful, but I remember the issues we had with folks having vacations, work changes, moving, school schedule changes, etc. Just getting everyone to show up in a regular weekly session was no fun.

You might consider all showing up at the same time now and then, to carry the moves a little faster.

Erm.. marathon teching.. first tech gained in one season of play?

If we have 18 players, I don't think that we can have more turns then 1 per day.
Not everybody can join 2 times a day, or 3 times every 2 days.

Timezone differences and work schedules, etc. will make that most turns will take 100% of their scheduled time, even if everybody is playing that turn.

Maybe put it on 1 turn per 16 / 20 turns, but don't expect anything more.

I'll consider the options regarding jumpstarts, but I have a strong feeling against any advanced start type, but maybe I'll be convinced to reconsider it

I think we really should say from the start that it is ok to miss a few turns. This will play very differently from a the normal game, it will be more like a MMO of some kind. If people have vacations and stuff no problem someone else can turn for them for a few weeks or so. And he can que things up

I support Whjip[lash and Tonis suggestion to make the turns 20 hours, that way with 18 players doing their turns it will end up the proper 24 hours.

I think that if we want this to work we should either:

            a) Use the advanced start feature
            b) Start in the Classic era
            c) Play 200 turns like a normal diplo game. But to reduce the head ache of cooridnating 18 players. We divide the group into 2 worlds (one old world the other new- these in game groups would be synced up with time zones). Once we reach 200 turns (that will take two sessions) we get someone to merge the two games (possibly using the world builder). And have us use the "scenario" made in this fashion as the basis for the pitboss game.

            d) Do 200 turns in a normal diplo game. And get 18 players to connect properly and come at one time.

One of the above suggestion needs to be used regarldelss of whether we choose epic or marathon otherwise this game will be a no go, since the first 30 days will kill off any enthusiasm.

My vote goes for either b or c

I can tell you right now that few people will want what you are offering.

I am against all of that!

since the first 30 days will kill of any enthusiasm.
              Welcome to PB

All the PB i have played the first 1, 2 months are very slow.

And mara speed will kill the game (too long), hell CS will even become a daddy for the 3rd time

It's not possible to use a small turn-timer (ie. 4h) in the early days, and then switch to a 24h turn timer later?

I think that morphing two games into one is an impossible task!! you have to create a new world tile by tile, city improvement by city improvement, unit by unit, without making any mistakes............ then all deals, all visuality, etc. have to be transfered as well.
                That's 2 months work.

If we could have 1 turn / 4 hour for the early 100 turns, then it'll be certainly doable!

                  !
Not realy. Since the two games would be on the same map, you could just delete the AI civs in one of the hemispheres, and add in the same stuff that was present in the other game. I mean it would take 30 min per civ (remember this would be turn 200 ) with 8 civs in New World that would be 4 hours. If two people divided the task it becomes trivial.

I'm willing to be one of the two people.

Just to demnostrate, this is a detailed course of action:

                  1. Put cities in proper place
                  2. Name cities right
                  3. Put improvments in proper places
                  4. Put workers, settlers in proper place

This would take sixty min for 8 civs

                  5. Put units in proper place, and give them proper promotions and exp
                  6. Put wonders and buildings in
                  7. Set ciy size
                  8. Give proper techs

The above would take 20 min per civ

                  8. Give each civ the proper ammount of gold
                  9. Give each civ the same amount of gold they invested in the last tech they didn't complete.

When you are done each player takes a look at his civ, and mails any mistakes he notices
Modern man calls walking more quickly in the same direction down the same road “change.”

                    which civ gets what religion?
                    which city gets what religion?
events may have changed terrain (new bronze, new iron, etc.)
is it possible to adjust great people score? great general?

Sure it will be possible to come close, but I think there are many problems there.

I'd say: let's try this on normal speed. there's enough time for diplomacy / story telling between the turns. And let's eat ourselves through the early boring months.

If it's possible to change the turntimer later on, I'd say let's do that.

Trivial, you do that in the same screen that you pick a religion.

People remember events like that since they are rare.

First possible glitch, yes your right that would be a probelm.

Normal is too fast in my opinion, like MCC I could agree to epic no problem.

But I still think we should consider a classical start. Seriously Cyber start a game in classical and you will see that it isn't that different from ancient.

That is what we need then - As CS said and thanks
Whip[lash for mentioning it lets start with a small timer to speed up the process and then adjust it to 16, 20hrs

No, hinduism will be founded twice, buddhism will be founded twice, etc.
It will spread to cities on both continents.

Who will get the holy city?
Ok, it'll be the one who founded it first, but what if 2 civs found it in the same turn?
And then, remove all hindu-religion from cities on the continent that 'lost' that faith? What about temples being built? What about storylines?
What about cities that might have gotten another religion, but are religionless now?

                            I say: it's impossible.

Classical start assigns hinduism and buddhism to two random civs, right? It also founds 1 or 2 cities, right?
