We could make rules for warfire, like players who are in war aren't supposed to play from 1 hour before the end of the turn till 1 hour after the beginning of the next turn.
Perhaps I should elaborate. If all players play their turn, then the turn flips without waiting for the timer to run out. Hence, the last person to play their turn can immediately play their next turn (double move). One solution that was suggested before was that if you are at war with another civ then you must wait at least 12 hours before making that second move (provided you are the last to play the previous turn). This however reduces that players turn "window" to 12 hours instead of 24. Plus there is the issue of people actually adhereing to this rule, remembering this rule, not having an ally end the turn for a loophole effect, etc... (you can see how this gets complicated very quickly).

Or even more simple: don't play 2 turns after each other when at war. Let there be a 1 or 2 hour gap between your moves.
Some variation of this is probably the best option. I would say extend the gap to 6 hours though. Diplogamers are generally pretty good about fair play and following rules, so this might actually work. That is, until there is a 3 or 4 or 5 way war.

Does the pitboss server run on a specific port, or on the usual civ port?
No clue. But here is a good guide created by Snoopy369.

I will also mention that this may be a good opertunity to get some new blood in diplogaming. I know several players who love pittboss games, and would probably dig diplo once they tried it.

Also keep in mind that pittboss allows for many players without bogging down. I once played a pittboss game with 32 players that worked flawlessly.

Not saying we need that many people, but this could be an oppertunity for something truely epic in scope.

          Wow.

          32 players...

          That would truly be epic.

People a diplo game on a huge map with 32 players, that would be more like an MMO. It would be like World of Civcraft.

People lets go for a massive pitboss diplo game! It would be the best experience ever! Imagine all the players and civs! I mean with the low time requirements even players already in diplo games could play, no need to fuss about time zones or stuff like that!

Lots of new players could come into the fold, I know at least one person who I can guarantee would join the Diplo Pitboss game.

Also with a lot of civs (20 or even 32) we could have the New and Old world civs divided. Perhaps even have a sperate story thread for the two groups untill first contact is made! And unlike the other diplo games people could drop out and join as they please.

Oh Gods of Civ MP hear my prayer! :desire:

You need a mod to run more than 18. Not sure if it is avaliable for download here on apolyton, but I know you can get it from CF.

Not trying to throw water on the fire, but also keep in mind that the more players the harder it is to manage and organize. With that much new blood we would also need to make sure everyone was on the same page regarding the diplo rules and culture.

We may want to shoot for 18 - 24. The two seperate threads until worlds collide would be cool as well.

Let's try an 18 player first, without a mod.
                18 would already be terrific!
After that's a success we can try to expand.

I'd also say: let's keep things as simple as possible.
                  No weird rulesets. No scorecharts.
Just focus on story telling and playing and diplomacy.

We can have a vote at the end of the game for storytelling and diplomacy, and then let the normal score decide the 3rd part of the end result.

Yes 18 is enough, and is much easier to do without the mod.

Its still enough to make two groups one with 10 and one with 8 civs, that could each have a seperate story thread.

I think its more interesting to make the groups Asymmetrical .
