  • For the record: we will SKIP next saturday's session b/c many missing people

We had subs for Holland and Russia last session.

Next session we will play at AMERICAN DAYLIGHT SAVING time.
Thus: if your clock has not been adjusted, please calculate the right starting time. If you're in the states: don't worry.

    • Hey guys. Am really sorry, but can't make Saturday's game. The Easter Saturday gives me my one big opportunity to get lots of stuff that vitally needs to be done, so I can't really pass that up. If you can find a sub, great, if not feel free to play without me. My heart really isn't in XI anymore anyway.

I agree with you Aussie, I've got the same feeling and feel forced to attend. I guess this wouldnt be so if we had more than half of the civs with humans.

After a small stroke last week, I feel rather tired and don't feel like sitting three hours at the monitor for something that doesn't make me feel good. My best trading partners, and most reliable ones now are AI. (aussie and toni and possibly Arv) and i would just sit there on my own, trying to deal with huge borders of AI.

Not my kind of fun with so many missing. Sorry Cyber. If you want to finish the game, you can play it with me as an AI too. None of my pals want any part of this game as subs.

          • All those months wasted
Of course this game is dying. People stopped posting stories months ago, and half of the players joined a new diplo game while this one was still running

My storyline is still going strong and I had a magnificient ending scenario ready. I'm afraid that the AI won't appreciate it though.

            • I have to be honest here and if I'm a bit blunt I hope it helps for future games.

I'm sad and angry about this.

This is a great game and one by one it gets abandoned. Some have better excuses than others, I understand but this can be the fate of any diplo game, including HOTW12 if we don't take responsibility and commit.

From my Portuguese perspective in this 11 player game I had a very rough run and fought my way back despite the IC and OOC odds:

              * Loss of first key ally, England, to the AI and variable subs

              * German ally betrayal - major tech set back pulling me back from leading in the early game

              * German's then quitting; posting they'd win anyway

              * Russians constantly switching between players and AI and able to build up huge auto-promoted army on my border with illegal tech gifts from Holland

              * Subsequently 3 of my border civs are AI or intermittent humans

              * All this at a time when the only full time ally America and Portugal had was each other

              * All this during the first half of the game where Holland built up a huge 6 civ Open Borders Tech trading effectively an alliance; and also supported IC and OOC by the Russians as a seventh civ

              * All this at a time when the 6/7 civ alliance had virtually no AI civs to contend with until much later in the game (Native America were mostly human until well after Communism was invented)

              * Then the 6/7 civ bloc attacked my only full time ally America and actually razes some of their cities. Portugal can't help much because we are pinned down by massive Russian, Ethiopian and German AI forces on our southern border.

              * Finally the 6/7 bloc starts to break down because of ill will from other civs during that war and brilliant and defiant stragy on all levels by the Americans.

              * As a result the Inca decide to go it alone and move away from the bloc

              * Also, Portugal and America negotiate a 3 way bloc with Rome - taking them away from the other bloc

              * Gradually the real power (rather than the game points) swings Portugal and America's way (Rome too coming from behind now so it was a good decision for them)

              * England gradually becomes a human civ more often than not as CC and ozzy rebuild it - however other civs take advantage of the changing players running England who aren't across the story thread or the game history

              * Gradually many of the regular players in the old 6/7 bloc become less reliable in game attendance: Inca, Native America and Russia

              * Solid players for the whole game up until now are: Ethiopia, Rome, Byzantine, America and Portugal and two of these now wish to quit

              * The original English, German, Dutch, Native American and apparently Inca have all retired from the game for various reasons to do with family, health, job etc. Russia turns up intermittently and has heart in the right place but can't follow through

              * We spend months negotiating the players for a game and the time slot decided. Statistically it is unlikely that after such thorough discussion pre-game that so many would not last the distance

              * Currently America, in particular, and Portugal are nuclear super powers

              * Portugal is ahead on SS, production etc

              * And we only have Rome, a new England and Russia, if they turn up, to play with this week.

              Have a think about this.

So, am I posting all this and complaining?

              No.

I'm posting this to highlight the importance of commitment and the responsibility we have to each other after investing such a huge amount of time in an excellent game.

              • Deity, much of what you say in the first part of the post is also a large part of the reason why I have lost interest (and have been losing interest). Don't get me wrong, though, I am not quitting-I will be here for next weeks game, but I would be lying if I said the outcome really interested me any more.

The whole "Tech Trade Bloc" thing really did annoy me-even though I was inadvertently a part of it. A lot of people joined the bloc without giving any in-game reasons for doing so (which really annoyed me).

What has annoyed me most, though, are the huge numbers of games delayed by late arrivals and connection issues. Now I know the latter are not anyone's fault, but this doesn't make it any less annoying when you're watching your Sat. Morning disappear into thin air. When you routinely get a combination of both factors in the same week, though, it really does try your patience to the limit!

Anyway, I hope I or someone else can sub for this week, but look for me next Saturday for the game. I may not care much about the outcome, but I am determined to see things through.

                  • Postponing seems the best option right now indeed.
Though I wonder if this game makes sence if Toni doens't return.

Toni was one of the reliable players as well.

I think this game won't last much longer then 2 or 3 sessions, it would be a pitty imho to end it now.

                    • I'm not sure what the point of post ponement is?

All the players that will play can play as far as I can see?

It will be the same crew next week - may as well play, unless Easter knocks out ozzy?

Once the momentum stops it may bever re-continue...

                      • Aussie can't play this saturday.
I'd also like a 2nd attempt to get Toni back.
I'm not sure if Arvcran really quited. I hope he can confirm that he's still with us.

If Toni and Arvcran both return, then we only have Germany and Native America as AI. That's not that bad.

                          • Thanks, LzPrst.

I suggest to postpone. I'll send a PM to all involved players to ask them if they want to continue the game (pretty please) for the last 2 or 3 sessions.

Nolan most probably can't play anyway b/c of health problems. I hope she'll get better soon!

If we play tonight then we have a huge change that it'll be Deity, MrLin and me as original players, Ozzy as a fairly new player and LzPrst as a sub. I think that such a session would kill the game defenitely b/c that'll mean that there's nobody of the original 'other side' playing. (the 'dutch alliance')

LzPrst, I'd really love it if you would sub for the last 2 or 3 sessions anyway!

I'll be online at gametime to discuss this.

                            • And after all the discussion above - I don't think I will be able to play this evening either. I originally had planned to, but we are in the middle of a bathroom renovation with plumber and tile folks, etc all schedule to be here on Tuesday morning. And I have to head out for family easter stuff first thing tomorrow morning, so any prep work I need to do has to be finished today - and some of it is taking MUCH longer than anticipated.

If we can postpone the one week, I will be here next week. And I think we can still make an interesting end game out of this one.
Cry havoc and let slip the dogs of war .... aw, forget that nonsense. Beer, please.
