yeah, I wanted to try out BTS but I couldn\'t really find any decent games on gamespy and I wasn\'t up for playing with random newbies. Needless to say we couldn\'t find anyone to play with. BTS MP has flopped.

You couldn't get one MP game started via a forum and you declare BTS MP a flop? Sunday and Monday night there were 500 matches played each day on the ladder, which translates into about 70 games perday. Sorry if I don't take your premature announcement of the death of BTS MP seriously

70 MP games a day in the first 2 weeks of an expansion pack release is a flop. Losing all your core members, who many just happened to be beta testers, is a flop. A net nanny like yourself who has never been good at the game and now runs the community and has weasled his way into a position of power among the beta testers is an absolute ****ing catastrophe. If I ever got to the point where I had massive amounts of time to waste and money I could just throw away, I\'d build my own ladder if only to see you crying in a corner as you\'re forced to confront the reality of your otherwise useless life. You\'re a loser, plain and simple, and you have thorougly demonstrated your lack of knowledge of how online communities work. It\'s bad enough that Civ4 has terrible gameplay, but having someone like you in charge compounds the issue.

Like I have said before to your drivel, I'll let the players judge my actions, and so far I have little to worry about. I wish you would start up a league, then there would be a place for all the rude, ignorant, elitist, n00b bashing cheaters, that I get rid off to go

Dr Spike is a nice example of an elite who quit the ladder because of your actions. How Civ5 will turn out hinges all on what the lead deisgner wants. There is still lots of talent at firaxis to make a great civ game.

Because of who's actions? Would you care to be more specific, it's hard to debate such a vague comment.

IMHO, Firaxis didn't make a great MP game, not because of lack of talent but lack of vision and the willpower to do something that had never been done for a TBS game. They still managed a good MP game to start with but then left it stagnate, and in the hands of it's players to deal with.

The difference between you and me Canuck is that I can write a book on what makes online communities thrive and in fact the business that I started is based on that experience. You on the other hand are nothing more than a socialist living in that socialist utopia you call Canada. You feel you need to regulate the actions of everyone and have created your own little nanny state to facilitate that idealized world you see yourself living in. The reality is that unregulated, decentralized communities thrive the most and are the largest. I have never seen a successful game where the community was controlled by one person and chats were patrolled for their kosherness. It\'s kind of like a real life economy, regulations and rules stifle it and prevent growth. Trust me when I say that if Civ5 is a successful MP game I will make sure that you are put back in your place where you belong. Civ4 at this point is beyond all repair and isn\'t going to make it so there\'s not much point in making a ladder for a dead game and a dead community.

Well then I guess I'll just continue to lead my "dead players" while they enjoy playing Civ4, despite it being a "dead game". :-/

I guess we will just have to agree to disagree Eyes, your idea of success has nothing to do with game mechanics, you just want anarchy were you and people like you can do what you want and treat players like you want. I doubt Civ5 will be that for you but keep hoping. C4P is all about having respect for other players, but I do understand that you have no concept of respect.

Those were the classic 1v1 pre-slavery games where you chose Inca, got about 5 cities, and just built as many axemen and catapults as possible. Neither side could take out a city so you'd march your stack in, it'd get destroyed, then he'd march his stack in and you'd destroy it. Just ****ing ridiculous. Then you'd scramble for points in the final turns.

                            Then Dr. Spike said

I could probably have lived with the flaws with a decent ladder. For those not familiar with it, it (unless it has changed) tries to cater to all tastes. However, the top ranked players were predominantly cton players, mostly pretty weak, and they would tend to only play large games with others from the same group.

Thus it was very difficult for players to progress above weaker players, which is a pretty essential characteristic for a vibrant ladder.

Eyes never tried - his performance was on rating not ladder rank. I tried to match my rating with ranking, but wish I hadn't, and could never get above rank 10 or so. I spent more time explaining to players dodging me that their behaviour undermined the ladder than I did playing towards the end. You could mount a formal challenge, but players could always defer for a week under the rules, by which times the general movement of the ladder could often render the challenge moot.

I'll probably keep an eye on what BtS brings, but unless they are willing to make a few changes to make the game more duel friendly I wont come back. And they probably wont, since most of the playerbase seems to prefer the larger games, and as I said I think Civ4 is pretty good for those.

Like I said Canuck, if Civ4Mp were a better game then I'd spend the time to make my own ladder and show you what a moron you are. Everyone sees at this point that Civ4 has failed as an MP game and that the Cases ladder system is beyond flawed. I have no doubt I would absolutely destroy your ladder if I put my system into effect. We're never going to know though because I'm certainly not going to make a ladder for a game I don't play and who pretty much everyone has quit from. I also see you didn't refute anything I said as far as your mentality, and your reply pretty much proved everything I said. A guy like you would never be able to compete with someone like me.
