Thanks! Glad you like my style.

And Ozzy, I hope the at times fevered back and forth over peace terms does not leave a bad taste in your mouth.

You have to understand, I was put in an odd situation taking over the Zulu from Levi. I had to drive a hard bargin for the sake of remaining competative.

Ok, just installed YIM. After fending off the 20 or so offers for me to "add a yahoo toolbar" and "yahoo search engine", I have it working.

    My yahoo ID is osha7677.

Do you guys play with the messenger windowed? If so, how do you do that with CIV4? Can Civ4 be windowed?

At anyrate, my clock shows 5:30 EST. I am assuming we play in an hour?

I will also need the IP addy for the game and password if there is one.

Please bare with me for the first couple turns. I have to make some MAJOR changes to my civ.

No bad taste whatsoever, that is how the game is played. That is the whole point. I always drive a hard bargain, and am annoyed when others whine about how I benefit from those bargains instead of trying to compete with me directly in the diplo arena.

This kind of tense back & forth is what diplogames are all about.

Civ4 can be windowed. It is how I use it.

Put this lines in your civilizationIV.ini file

; Specify whether to play in fullscreen mode 0/1/ask
          FullScreen = 0

; Allow Mouse Scrolling in Windowed mode
          MouseScrolling = 1

yes, and 17 minutes from now

I will also need the IP addy for the game and password if there is one.
I will send it to you by PM (personal message in apolyton) (don't want to make Kuno's IP private

Please bare with me for the first couple turns. I have to make some MAJOR changes to my civ.
OF course, that's the key of our game! We have patience with each other, but we ask each other to not linger too long

Maybe you can load the game already right now (just make an direct-IP game and only join it yourself, DON'T ADVANCE THE TURN) and just look around! That may save some time!

be sure that your firewall is off or configured right!

              Firewall is off.
Pitboss is down; as are all other apps other than messenger.
PC and DSL modem rebooted just prior to game.
              Graphics sent to low.

              All set to play.

                  Are we playing this Friday?

And is there a save from the end of the last session? I assume it is OK to look at it - as long as you do not play ahead.

                    We do play every friday
UNLESS we agree to skip a session, which happened in the last two games only once (!!)

                    I'll post the save later!
(it's wise to save the game before leaving the game! That supplies you always with a save)

You can look at the game (only your tribe of course) and just not advance the turn. It's a gentlemens agreement that we all obey this rule.

We have a good new batch of new players! The future of diplogaming has been secured

                      • Thanks CS. But I would really like to get beyond these 'connection' issues. Working with Pinchak and snoopy369 in another thread to see what we can come up with.

                        • Yeah, i guess snoopy is right, if the box says router i guess it is a router.

In my experience, a router is just a pain in the @$$. I have gone through several of them in my day.

If you need it for DSL that is another story. I've had DSL twice and cable once. Cable seems to be more stable connection wise, while DSL is more consistant speed wise, (although both can vary wildly in quality depending on your area).

Currently using Verizon Fiber Optic. Best broadband option yet. Superfast, never fluctuates, has only gone out once in the year i have had it.

My revised solution to your problem would be to turn off ALL security features of your ISP/router, and just use a software firewall (which should be off during play).

If that doesn't work, disconnect your router, throw it on the floor, jump up and down on it several times, then plug it back in and see if that makes a difference.

                          • Beta, what did you do both times to 'fix' the issue, during playing? re-booting? closings progs? lowering graphics?

                            • Graphics were lowered. All other apps were off. "Soft" firewall down.

What seems to have made a difference both times is rebooting the router in question. I did do that about 15 minutes before the last session, but we still had issues. I rebooted again after the start of the game, and that seemed to do the trick.

The only one I seemed to lose contact with after that was Ozzy.

So, for this week, snoop has given me the guide on how to check the ports, and I will do the reboot just prior to the game.

For the following week, I am going to be in transit back up north to Canada, so I will be getting a replacement player. (snoop - you up for that - Friday, March 30, at 6:30 edt, or will you be working?)

Up north - I also run on DSL, but hopefully we will not have the same issues.

                                That is my next plan.
