  • Why did HOTW 7 take so long?

    HOTW 5 was quicker.

HOTW 9 is flying, almost too quickly.

I suspect HOTW 8 will be quicker too.

    Why?

TORaCTT, I hate to say... It achieved its objective but the game sufferred through loss of key players, not because of TORaCTT. I've been mulling over it and starting to come to this conclusion.

HOTW 5 = Trade anything as often as you like

HOTW7 = TORaCTT (Trade Only Researched and Conquered Techs Twice)

HOTW 8 = TOSRT (Trade only Self Researched Techs as often as you like)

HOTW 9 = TOSRT (Trade only Self Researched Techs as often as you like)

We desperately need a good mod as mistakes get made I believe. And it would be good to have a tally of beakers traded between civs programmed in.

HOTW 7 takes long but I really enjoy it.
If TORaCTT slows the game down, then that's good imho.
The bad thing about TORaCTT is that it results into fixed alliances.

HOTW 7 also suffered from at least 5 horror sessions with <10 turns. And I think 1 session didn't even start because of connection problems.

HOTW7 also had the largest number of players ever. (13)
    HOTW9 only has 8 or 9, HOTW8 has 11 players.

Remember also that HOTW7 started in the pre-2.08 patch era. After the patch fewer problems were experienced. The experience of the players with connection problems also helped to get better sessions.

The biggest problem with HOTW7 is imho the lack of wars. There's a lot of talking, but hardly any war. Mostly because of TORaCTT and the alliances it creates, imho.

How long are the HOTW9 sessions?

      btw, HOTW5 took 5 months (February 24, 2006 - July 29, 2006)
      HOTW7 takes 6 months so far (August 28, 2006 - March 2nd, 2007)

But HOTW7 missed 2 sessions, so it's hardly much longer then HOTW5.

          Actually ... I have a notion for a mod.

Allow a player to build a crippled GP, a "technical assistance unit" ... one that can only lightbulb a tech he currently has already, and can do absolutely nothing else.

It is only useful as a trade item ... move it to a neighbor, and gift it.

If you have to build the damned thing with hammers, it makes tech trades possible, but a but spendy, as it will tie up a city for a while.

I'm going to branch this off.
