Aaaaah, it's a normal non-hidden setting. I never tried it
I'll try it next game for sure! Thanks!

Yeah, I'll have to try it.
        But back to the discussion.
Is there something that can be agreed on to make it more fair.

If Im playing a ladder games or against random internet people I anticipate being hit by double moves and I use them as well when I can. I have stack attack, no combat animations and minimize pop ups on to help me get my move when and where I want

When Im playing against people I know or whatever then I find it quite easy to use my common sense and try to give my opponant some time to react to my move, if they should be able to in a turn based game. Sometimes I forget, or maybe my opponent hasnt seen my move yet but no ones perfect.

It can never be fair if it's not an official option (turn based moves during wartime).
It cannot be maintained otherwise. It's too complex for a code of honor. The game has simul turns. Use it in your advance. All players should just get used to it. The civ2 dinosaurs as well
It's just a new layer of strategy.

I'd settle for no mexican standoff waiting for all the other players to move.

Snotty, I guess I'll change my settings too. But I like your thoughts on the matter. And sometimes I don't see the move either, but then I figure I deserve to pay for it in those situations.

I think its more an exploit than an extra layer of strategy.

If they meant units to have double moves then they would have added that promotion. I don't like it.

                  I don't consider it a strategy either.

It's worse when I rush through my turn so I can sneak a smoke in without delaying anybody only to come back and discover I lost a city and it's dark so I don't even know what happened. This only happens on those surprise unload from boat attacks.
But if someone unloads from a boat, it's really sucks that they can fire their cannons before you can respond.

Yeah, I never saw that they landed, puff puff.
But in that case it really didn't make a difference since you brought more than enough to do the job.

In that case I would prefer the option where everybody says "DONE" instead of ending the turn, and then all end the turn at the same time.

Double moves are not as big a problem when you play with turn timers. During wars, people are more likely to use all of the time each turn and the coming of the next turn becomes somewhat predictable, at least most of the time.

I did not know about the minimize pop-up option. I will have to try that. The latest patch did put in some code that precludes players from double moving sometimes. The problem is that it does not work every turn.

How about making the 'end turn' button into a sort of 'ready' button, so that everyone gives their orders, before ending their turn, then all units move literally simultaneously?

That way, someone who moves their units before everyone else is not at a disadvantage, since their opponents don't know what they're doing, until they end the turn themselves.

not a bad idea, but not practical for actual combat.

I kind of like the "DONE" option. Just doing it when combat is going to happen so it doesn't slow the rest of the game down.

IMO, giving orders then moving simultaneously is actually closer to real combat structure. It also gives the opportunity for the close passing of troops without getting into a battle. Kind of like Cold War manouvering, possibly more fun (although constantly having to predict the next few moves of each and every unit could get a little annoying for the casual civ player (if there is such a thing))
