As MasterDave said, he had to react to our attack and lost his tech lead. You cant let these Poly builder types play the game the way they want, you have to force them to react to you, and then youre calling the shots. Ideally the northern hemisphere should have been under pressure all game.

I can't remember being called a "builder type" before, usually I am reviled as an eeeeevil warmongering brute. However, I have more recently tempered some of my quecha/warrior pillage and poach tactics, so maybe I am becoming something of a builder.

I wish I had realized that Snotty was not coming back after the first attack was repulsed. Had I known that Dauphin had been left all alone to face my wrath, I would have been far less cautious on the counterattack...

None of the things I mentioned have anything to do with computer speed, I'm afraid. If your experience slowdown it's because of graphics, and anything that "reduces" graphics (like Stack Attack) will make your turns go faster.

Sorry I had to try and rush you, MasterDave, but that's probably the best cap site I've seen in a long while...

I like the Standard size map: the closer borders do spark tensions, but that's good because if I just play alone I tend to fall asleep.

had a gg last night

my cap and 2nd city worked well with the mfg strategy I had been planning before the start of the game. I got my forges up very quickly thanks to industrious. Would have been 30 turns quicker if I hadnt gone for the oracle and missed it by 1 turn

I had planned to expand quickly as we tend to play on emptier than average maps. This is a part of my game I need to practice as often I play smaller crowded maps

I think I managed to cripple Rah without laying a finger on him with our border cold war due to my great MFG.

Gibsie was always going to struggle as a central power

I managed to contain foreign religion in my cities by being at war with everyone. When I went to peace with Rah later his religion spread like wildfire in my cities and I couldnt stop it because I couldnt break the peace treaty timer

Im not sure what I would have been able to do against Dominae and his redcoats. I would probably have the wait for my navy seals to roll around and launch sea borne assaults

It was a fun game, I enjoyed it.

Got to get the obligatory complaints out the way, of course; I was Monty and Organized is the most boring trait; probably the most useless too, it was the difference between one hold upkeep and two gold upkeep for most of the game. Yay.

I had some great "skill" but horrible luck early on; I don't rush for Bronze Working, but I planted a settler on some marble and got out the Oracle one turn earlier than both Rah and Snotty (ha). But by the time I did get Bronze Working, I really had to play defensive catch-up; I got a city on some Copper to the south, but a Barbarian Warrior attacked me, I lost on 85% odds; I had just one axeman to spare to retake the city, and, at even better odds, I lost that fight too. I think that really ended up finishing me off, such a little thing.

Of course I could never have contended with Dominae; I wasn't going to attack him, and since no-one else was, I'm actually glad that MasterDave started taking me out before Redcoats came along: that would not have been pretty...

I'm absolutely knackered now though...
