  • Hotseat???

Well, I just found out that my girlfriend will be unable to play me online in the game b/c her computer's graphics card is not T&L enabled. So, I was wondering if anyone knew if the game would include a Hotseat mode like previous versions, or if the expansion for it would include it or not? (Yeah, I know its early to ask that second one, but I'm curious) Thanks for any help!

My girlfriend likes Civ 2 ... I like C3C ... It's a sad tale, like Romeo and Juliet or something ...

              SilverbergHeir,

Your g/f's laptop has Mobility Radeon 9000, IIRC. This chipset does indeed have T&L; your problem might lie in the manufacturer's video drivers, which are probably old and have probably never been updated (due to laptop manufacturer's in general not caring about graphics power; as long as it works out of the box, fine)..

So you can try http://www.omegadrivers.net/ - apparently their Mobility Radeon 9000 ATI drivers work really well and one person said their EQ2 problems disappeared using them ( third post here: http://www.consilioetarmis.com/home/...ead.php?t=8011 )

So I wouldn't get the hotseat warmed up too quickly. I'm *pretty* sure your g/f will be fine.

As for the snarky "I bet his girlfriend is his hand" comment from Sava, well, my girlfriend is as big a Civ nut as I am; she has her own gaming PC.

Its a Mobility Radeon 9000 IGP, though. Does that have T&L support? I didn't think it did.

AMD delivers leadership high-performance and adaptive computing solutions to advance data center AI, AI PCs, intelligent edge devices, gaming, & beyond.

That's the list ... It definitely is an inferior card to the 9000 nonIGP, but it lists Pixel Shader 1.4 as a feature - isn't that what T&L really refers to? (I'm not a video card specialist, but this is my understanding ...)

for example doesn't mention anything different in that category, albeit it looks to be a bit more powerful in the shading category (6 pipelines instead of ... 2? 4?)

Hotseat seems the better option in your case anyway! Plus nothing says "I love you" like a new graphics card

I'm glad is has hotseat options since I'll be demo'ing the game to quite a few people to try and get them into Civ. Seems a great version for it. Civ3 was hard on new people, have high hopes for Civ4.

Maybe I'll even finally be able to get my better half to play. Think she might enjoy it looking at the setup and ease of play of this new version. Hope it lives up to the previews!

Try Geomodder's thread, that has the link to the test program. It's not a 100% perfect test program, but it might tell you it works ... If it says it doesn't work though i wouldn't be too worried, it's a site basically in existance to sell you a new gfx card

I'm assuming it's not possible given it's a laptop in-MB graphics card. Usually those aren't replaceable

But i've been trying to get my GF to MP-hotseat Civ me for a while. She won't, as she's too interested in killing AIs who are easier than I would be Wants to do things like "go to the movies" and "talk" ...

Awful, awful, awful hard time getting a straight answer to this question after another ten minutes of searching through various newsgroups.

This thread ( http://rage3d.org/board/showthread.php?t=33794614 ) has a discussion about the 9000 IGP and how it seems to run a load of games (as well as a strange offhand remark about how the Omega Drivers "enable" the T&L on the 9000 IGP); so I guess it's worth a shot, in any case. Oh, and be sure to not choose the "RadLinker", whatever the heck that is, when installing the Omega Driver for the 9000 IGP (at least, it seemed to cause some sort of major issue back in version 5.4 of the Omegas on 9000 IGPs.)
