yeah, if you increase your culture rate, your cities will produce more culture points per turn... so if you are going for culture victory raise that biznitch!!!!

    SCREW RESEARCH MAN!!!!

and if you are the civic that has +100% culture, it is a big bonus!!!

overall, your economy might be more efficient if it produces just culture instead of research or wealth if you have that civic (free speech I think)

near the end, it was like, ZOMFG only 15 turns until I win because my city is at 35000 culture and I'm producing 1,000 per turn!!!! w00t!!!

culture victory might be the easiest...

at least at this difficulty level

culture victory might be the easiest...
      Sava,

That's pretty funny because I had to convince other people on the forums today that it was even possible!

Sure, I lacked one big part of winning a Culture Victory, but there's at least 10 other things one has to do to get it.

I still think that a Culture Victory is more of a challenge than a Space Race Victory, because you spend the entire game working on it.

Space Race takes you all of what? 30 turns? And it's only at the end of the game that you start work on it.

True, there is the great build up towards that end, but really you only dedicate the last 30-50 turns to the Space Race.

Culture Victories can start well into the Ancient era when you build your first Obelisk. It continues as you build Temples, WW's, Monestaries, and put all your specialists towards Artists and Engineers, and all your Production in those three cities towards Culture.

All in all I really enjoy the Cultural path, so much so that I stopped working on the Stasis Chamber 1 turn from completion just so that I could spend 6 more turns to achieve Culture Victory.

Hey Sava, I think I have you beat!

        Delhi, 1988, 100% Culture

        CPT reads "1..."

        Total in 1988: 53,153
        Total in 1989: 54,277

        CPT = 1124!

Oh yeah, and my other two cites were at 916 and 640 CPT.

well, I had culture rate at only 80% and all three of my cities were over 1,000...

Delhi was over 1500 near the end of the game...

by the time Madras got to 50,000 and I won the Cultural Victory, Delhi was over 75,000

I'm going to read this whole thread over again and try to figure out how you did that.

I tried it last night on Settler but was only able to pull off a 2700 point Game Score in the 1830's for a total score just under 10,000.

              it is mostly luck

              the city placement was key

the three cities were all in big resources areas

Delhi was on a river with lots of flood plain so I was able to get lots of food which allow me to get lots of artist specialist (meaning lots of extra culture)... also, Delhi had corn, wheat, and 2 dye and a uranium resource

Madras had rice, an iron and 3 gold and was also on a river, but with grassland...

Bombay was a coastal city at the mouth of the river... it had access to fish, crab, coal and pigs, hills(grassland)...

so the cities that I concentrated the culture in were very well placed...

also, I planned out which wonders I built in which cities...

also... because I got two settlers from huts, I started faster... I also got a jump start on techs... I founded every religion... I also built every religious wonder in those three cities...

Delhi had 3, Madras had 2, Bombay had 2...

all 3 cities also had all 7 religious monasteries...

they also had multiple "cathedral" buildings which added +50% culture each... I forget how many, but each city had at least 2...

I am not clear how many of those you are allowed to build per city

But this game was a PERFECT STORM of culture...

I tried to get another start like this like 5-6 times after I won...

this had to be a one in 100 or even greater... maybe one in a thousand start.

Think about it... I founded ALL SEVEN RELIGIONS

I started with TWO SETTLERS from goody huts...

              the city placements were AMAZING!!!

                dammit....

                I deleted the save games

and the auto and quick save dirs are empty

                they are gone forever

I have a few screenshots, but they don't really show anything useful

I just have the hall of fame and the replay

I think I know where my problem lies...

I keep on founding all the religions, and that's not a problem. What is a problem is the fact that I do almost Zero missionary work, I like to let the Rel's spread on their own.

What I'm thinking is this, if I spread the first rel' I found over the entire continent, and I build the shrine for it ASAP, then I'll be raking in a ton of Commerce.

If I can get that Commerce diverted towards Culture via the Culture Slider, then perhaps I can get much higher CPT's much earlier in the game.

One thing I realize I did wrong on that settler game was turn up the Culture Slider too early. I had it at 40% through most of the Middle Ages, and 60% up until I got the Eifel Tower, at which point I increased it to 100%.

If instead of doing it that way, I just leave it at 0% until the Eifel Tower, I should be able to get the Eifel tower in somewhere around the 1500's and then jack up the Culture Slider to 100%.

I mean, once I get enough CPT such that with the Slider at 100% I can get 750+ in each of my cities, and with roughly 15,000 Culture at time I crank it up, then it should only take about 50 turns to Victory.

That of course means that if I get the Eifel Tower in 1500, I should have Victory by 1650.

One big question I have Sava, is how do you use your GA's?

Do you use them as Culture Bombs, or as Specialists?

I'm still trying to figure out the mathematics behind that.

I had at least 4 GA's go to Madras as Culture Bombs in my last game, which netted me 16,000 CP.

But if I were to have turned them into specialists, then it would have been:

                  (14 * 4) * (100% + 100%(Free Speech) + 100%(Hermatige) + 50%(Eifel Tower) + 50% (Cathedral) + 50% (one Cultural WW such as Broadway) )

                  Which equates to: 56 * (1 + 1 + 1 + .5 + .5 + .5)

                  or: 56 * 4.5 = 252.

What I can't figure out is the Culture Slider. Would the Culture Slider just add an extra 56 CPT to that?

                  If so, that's 308 CPT for 4 GA's. It would take 16,000 / 308 = 51 turns to equal 4 Culture bombs.

Which do you think is best?

Just out of curiosity, did you check the Recycle Bin?

It should be on your desktop. Double-Click on it and see if they are in there.

They should be, unless you deleted them from the game's UI, in which case they may really be lost forever.

                    Still, check the Recycle Bin.

no, I emptied the recycle bin already

I always use GA as culture bomb... it is always much more beneficial I think to use them in that manner... it has to be

I am too lazy to do the math though

but I usually use them in the city that is lagging in the culture race... not the strongest culture city

usually my capital is the strongest culture city... it doesn't need the culture bombs most times

I don't know how many GA's I got during that game, but it seemed like a lot. Probably at least 7-8... maybe more.

Hey, you weren't playing on Epic by chance were you?

I'm still trying to figure out what the advantage/disavantages of Epic are.

Does it just "take longer" to play the game?

How is Score affected by Epic?

For instance, right now it seems that Total Socre = GameScore * Turns Remaining / 100.

With epic, there are more turns. So, what is 100 turns remaining on Normal may be 150 Turns remaining on Epic.

no it was not an epic game

I don't know if the score is different for epic games
