When I got the the end game my Computer was lagging while processing the turns and I have a pretty cutting edge system. This game is definitely resource hungry. I must say that the AI is the best of any Civ game, it stays competitive even in the late game. I had Railroad by the 14th century and they were still keeping up with me.

Here are my system specs, just to give you some guideline ideas:

    AMD A64 3200 OC'ed to 2.4 GHZ
    1 GB Dual Channel RAM
    256 MB PCIe ATI Card

From a hardware standpoint I think more RAM and possible a faster Hard Drive (like a Raptor) could help with the game. My Memory Latency is very tight so that isn't the issue. I am also running at full Graphics settings so if you scale it back I think you will find the game to run much smoother. Either that or try playing at a lower resolution, that can help also.

Hm. I could swear I played MP last night, on Noble, and got a settler from a goody hut. 2 workers also.

Anyone know why it goes to desktop for no reason? This happened every now and then.
I have played every civ game (I miss the wagon icon) and I think the graphics have made game play longer. I play an easy game at an easy level and look to just waste a few hours, so at sometime this game becomes master of orion III.
I will continue to plug away out of brand loyalty (Civ has cost me women when I was younger) and also because this game is SO much better than CivIII.
By the way, what is ICS?

Hope everyone enjoys the game because inspite of myself I have put about 15 hours on this one so far.

Well, after a few days break I am continuing my ZIONIST CONSPIRACY to dominate the world.

And I have good news. I have succeeded in spreading the ZIONIST message to Tokugawa. I don't know how, but one of his cities had Judaism spread to it and then he just converted!

          that was easy!

btw, sorry I have to crop the pic, my resolution is 1600x1200 and if I resize, it is hard to make out everything

that Galleon you saw in the first pic? Well, he discovered an island and he returned from his voyage of discovery and is bringing the first group of settlers to colonize!

I'm hoping to find more land to build cities because the OLD WORLD is completely filled. I even have AI settlers wandering through my territory looking for open land.

I wonder. Does anyone know if the AI "knows" where all the land is already, or do they have to explore the map like everyone else. The reason I ask is, should I reject offers to share maps?

I figure, there really is nothing to gain for me when AI's ask me to share maps other than to not get a -1 on relations. But it's not like they are going to declare war or anything. I could crush them. But I wonder if they do not know where the land is. If I share maps, they might build boats and go rush to settle the land before me.

          Anyone know about this?

I think there is some debate on this subject. I thought not, but there are some indications (Sir Ralph posted on it) that it might...

              hmmm, interesting...

so far I have no choice but to trade maps... I figure it is not much harm in it because the AI is not a danger to colonize the land I have discovered. Plus, they might cancel trading Marble with me and I am constructing some wonders that require it.

yeah, my next game will be Terra map...

              this one is just continents...

btw, what is the main difference between continents and terra?

I've read the descriptions in the manual, but to be honest, I don't understand what the difference is.

I haven't played any Terra maps, so I don't know what the difference is, first-hand.

Care to tell me what is so special about them?

Everyone is raving about them! I want to know what all the hubbub is about!

Terra map means that all the civs start on one continent (supposed to be generally like Eur/Af/Asia) and the "New World" (set up kinda like N/S America) has only barbs. The game really begins with Astronomy...

                  Interesting.

                  But wait...

what about Aztecs? (and even though they aren't in the game anymore, the Iroquois, Sioux, etc... and historically, Mayan and Incan civilizations)

it's kind of unfair to them... like saying they aren't real civs

but maybe I am reading too much into this

that does sound kind of cool though...

I will definitely have to raise the difficulty to a more reasonable level... I don't necessarily want to colonize the whole rest of the world before everyone else...

                  hmmm

maybe I'll just try noble and then raise it from there

honestly, I can't say that I am not enjoying this complete and utter domination

but somehow it feels like I am running a race on a magnetic track against someone with iron weights in their shoes

That's how warlord felt when I played a game there.

Noble has been more of a challenge; although my latest Noble-level game, I'm starting to dominate too...for once...so I must be learning something! Incidentally, I've got so 5 of 7 civs converted to my (Buddhism) religion, too.

Usually, if you negotiate you can exhange thier World Map for your 10 Gold.

                        May be an exploit.

well, I have won a cultural victory in 1570 AD

                          my strategy has paid off...

I concentrated all the Wonders of the World in 3 cities... after getting the Tech's that I wanted, I raised my culture rate really high, and specialized those 3 cities' improvements so that I could max out the culture output... I had about 4-5 artists in each city which added to the culture... plus the religious buildings (cuz I had founded all 7 religions) that each added +50% culture... it really added up...

near the end I think I got my capitol above 1,000 culture

I don't think Firaxis planned on someone being as l337 as me because the city advisor screen (domestic advisor or whatever), on the culture column it is formatted so that you can only see 3 figures for culture (up to 999)

once I got over 1,000 I couldn't see how much culture was being produced in the city without zooming into the city screen

also, the reason I was able to get a culture victory so quick was I was producing a lot of great artists...

virtually all the great people I was producing were great artists... and I only used the culture bombs in the top 3 cities

actually, I almost won a diplomatic victory about 15-20 turns earlier, but I was short like 9 VOTES!!!!

3-4 of the AI's weren't voting for me because they liked Bismark more than me

they thought he chose his civics wisely

what I did though, I got him to declare war on Tokugawa

that made everyone like him less by -1, but still that wasn't enough...

near the end, Tokugawa got pissed at me because of this, and because I wouldn't help him in the war... he lost the city that was Judaism and he converted to Budhism... so he broke the ZIONIST CONSPIRACY

BUT IN THE END I WON

and this was by far the most dominating victory I have had...

seriously, even though this is on warlord, I think this is a a very good victory in in of itself

                          LOOK AT THE FINAL SCORE!!!

                          57999?!?!?!?

                          err...

okay the screenshot says 57221, but my Hall of Fame says 57999...

                          Anybody know why this is?

                          Is this a bug?

                          Okay... maybe I know why...

the screenshot is from an autosave I just loaded because the screenshot I tried to take when I won the game disappeared... maybe that is why...

I cannot take a screenshot of my Hall of fame for some reason... I press PrintScreen but nothing appears in the screenshots folder.

                          Is this a bug?

OH WELL I WON THE GAME...

This has got to be a really high score... even for a warlord victory...

oh yeah, I won this game at 3 in the morning yesterday... uhmmm early today technically

I built the UN and had enough votes to just vote myself the Secgeneral...

I was not going for any resolutions, just the victory...

I had Roosevelt and Alexander on my side... then Alexander switched to Bismark and Caesar joined me...

I tried like 3 or 4 votes to win the diplo victory but failed... BY LIKE 5-12 votes each time...

                            I WAS SO MAD...

there isn't much you can do to get the AI's to vote with you right?

can you still bribe them? I don't think so right?

I tried giving some gifts like 1500 gold to Alexander and he wouldn't switch back and vote with me...

                            gifting units didn't work...

and nobody would trade any resources (cuz I had everything)

maybe I can trade world maps and give them a resource next time? does that work?

I don't know... there has to be some way to bribe the AI in diplomacy...

oh one other thing that sucks, once you make defensive pacts, other civs get annoyed that you have made pacts with your rivals... so it's not really a good idea to do this, unless you do it with really powerful civs...

I was hoping to ally myself with 3 civs to form a voting bloc to get a diplo victory, but after 2 defensive pacts, it's hard to get a third ally...

each defensive pact you do adds a -1 for every AI civ... making it harder to get another ally...

I don't really like that... I wonder if you can mod it out...

oh well, my next game I think is going to be terra...

are there any settings in the Custom Game menu to get more resources?

not a lot more, just maybe like 10% more or so...

                                Wait,

The way I understood it the Culture Rate affects how happy people are from cultural improvements IE Coloseum, etc.

Am I to understand that Culture Rate actually affects the CPT of cities!!!???

Damn, and I won Culture Victory twice with only 10% Culture!

I had one city at 640CPT, with 50% culture I could have gotten that close to 1,000! :eeek:

Or was I right the first time?

Anyway, 58,000 is a HELL of a score!

And sadly, difficulty level has no impact on score.

Only distance from the last turn of the game does.
