Let me introduce you to the yearly autosave.

I really hate it when ...

... I rush to research BW/IW/AH/whatever and the stupid important resource (copper/iron/horses/whatever) shows up everywhere on the damn planet EXCEPT in my backyard. GIMME!!

Yeah, the land by your cap sucks and your scout finds the mongols and they have gold, flood plains, horses, and a six pack of elephants. Then he finds monty and he has iron in his fat cross. All the good land is at least 20 squares away and always closer to someone else.

I love those games myself. Monty and Ghengis are so predictable, especially with their UU that they're incredibly easy to counter.

Minus the part about bad land around my capital. I'm never a fan of that.

I usually prefer to wipe them out. If they capitulate I think you still get some unhappy while if you totally conquer you don't.

Yeah, I hate it when a city is pissed because they want to rejoin the motherland. That's the best advertisement for eliminating the motherland.

Or my neighbor to the east's friend joins the war and pounces on my stack while it's healing in a newly conquered city.

I had a good one the other day. I was going after an AI to my east and was getting ready to take a city a handful of squares into his cultural territory when the other AI to me East declared and showed up with quite the impressive stack next to a city that I thought was defended well enough but wouldn't survive such a large stack. I noticed the location of the SOD and made peace with the AI I was fighting and my stack was teleported right next to the invading SOD and it was just enough to eliminate it that same turn with help from the troops in the city. It pays to pay attention.

And then they become somebody else's vassal, and you're thinking I'm going to wipe you out this turn, mother****er (because you didn't notice what they did), and you attack, and now you're at war with someone completely different.

I used to hate it when you'd get a quest which was nearly impossible to complete. Like settling near the holy mountain, but it's on the other side of the world.

Of course, then I learned that quests aren't worth going out of your way for.

I hate it when that big bad barb event happens early, and a stack of axemen are coming to get you, even across someone else's lands, and all you have are warriors.

OTOH I don't hate it when they go after one of your neighbors and take their capital, and you send out a friendly neighborhood watch unit to help, but they didn't get there in time, and oh, look - no one's home.
