The slider works nicely to keep all the little scientists happy and theater +1 at each 10% and coliseum 1 plus 1 more at each 20%. No opponentis going to disrupt my choices until the down-belows have optics. Nonetheless my worry is now science. No happiy tiles (luxury) meant I had to use the games available building to support my SE economy. This one is the purest SE I've ever run, with no onesies or twosies of cottages in each SE city to boost money a bit when my guys are in enemy territory or the enemy temporarily disrupts one of my CE cities. We'll see.

There's a price tag for that, though. Happy for 6 cottages (or whatever) under HR costs 6 military, say @ 35 = about 200 hammers. Meanwhile, Rep provides 15 happy (more than 6).
To match the 15 happy HR would have to build 15 units, @ 35 = 535, which is more than Pyramids!!

My usual rule of thumb is if the land is good, work it. If the land is mediocre or crap, run specialists.Libraries are state sanctioned, so they're technically engaged in privateering. - Felch
I thought we're trying to have a serious discussion? It says serious in the thread title!- Al. B. Sure

Even really crappy land tends to have food specials. Just make sure you have 2 per city.I'm consitently stupid- Japher
I think that opinion in the United States is decidedly different from the rest of the world because we have a free press -- by free, I mean a virgorously presented right wing point of view on the air and available to all.- Ned

-edit- This might sound rough but tbh you're asking -or requesting- other people to conform to your wishes rather than the other way around and I simply find that quite rude. Perhaps it's just a cultural misunderstanding, I'm not American.
Here are some though:
SE / CE - already covered
HR - Hereditary rule
UB - unique building
UU - unique unit
COL - here Colossus in some posts, otherwise CoL is code of laws
CS - Civil service
REP - representation
ENG - engineering
ND - Notre Dame
IND - industrious
WFYABTA - We fear you are becoming too advanced
GL - often Great Library, sometimes Great Lighthouse
TGL and GLH - The Great Lighthouse
AP - Apostolic Palace
GW - Great Wall
GP - Great person/people
REX - Rapid expansion
BFC - big fat cross (workable terrain around city)
WHEOOHRN (developed into weehorn) - we have enough on our hands right now (diplo message)
most are quite obvious if you put them in context. If you are discussing pyramids and someone mentions REP or GE, you might deduce that they mean representation since pyramids give you access to civics, and great engineer since pyramids give you GE GPP (great people points).

They give you massive knowledge which you should be thankful for rather than whine about not understanding the abbreviations when you can easily look them up or figure them out yourself.
But he is right... sometime the discussion breaks down into a massive use of abbreviations. For people who are new or have been away from the forums for a while, we can make it difficult for them. Thanks for providing a list.Keep on Civin'

We have enough on our hands right now.
When you want them to go to war with someone and they answer that, they have decided to go to war with someone as I understand it, it's not necessarily you but often enough . If they aren't already at war of course, then the answer is a bit more obvious.

First off, I think it's a huge mistake to ignore the power 'slider', EVEN on an island; thus, the mil units that give you happiness also give you power slider points, which is useful.
That said, I'm on the side of rep here, IFF you are running a SE. If you're not, then don't bother, and just do your thing regardless; but if you're running a SE, then you clearly need to run rep, for the science AND the happiness.<Reverend> IRC is just multiplayer notepad.

The wheeoh Horn ia what sailors call the dive horn on subs. In the movies someone always shouts "Dive! Dive!" as the horn sounds. In RL, the horn is your only warning to get below and seal the hatches. Gets everyon's attention in a way the peace horn does not.No matter where you go, there you are. - Buckaroo Banzai
