Call To Power 2 Cradle 3+ mod in progress: https://apolyton.net/forum/other-games/call-to-power-2/ctp2-creation/9437883-making-cradle-3-fully-compatible-with-the-apolyton-edition
Yeah, you can always raze it. The improvements will still be there, and that's really what interests me in the long run. Unless they've built a lot of good buildings that survive the assualt. It's one of those times where I'll make the effort to zoom in on the map to see what I can.
It's almost as if all his overconfident, absolutist assertions were spoonfed to him by a trusted website or subreddit. Sheeple

Always give open borders in early game. Helps with tech and resource trades in terms of AI attitudes. Gives me the same opportunity to scout them they get to scout me. Not real inclined to give open borders to an immediate neighbor who is one of the psychos (Ghengis, Toke, Monty, or Shaka).

It's the psychos that I REALLY want open borders with. I don't want to become their worst enemy
But more importantly, I want to check their land out as well... and keep a unit or two in their land to see where they are concentrating troops, and to check out the potential nature of their SOD. It can usually give you a heads up when they start making a stack and moving it in your direction.. plus, you have a little more advance warning on what to be building.
I'm not a noob, although I'm hardly very good at the game either. I know one thing a noob should consider though: Turning off the random events for the first games. The events often can make the game harder and not always for good reasons either. Most random events are negative and some are outright idiotic. But never have I had such a downturn in my games as I had when I played earlier today; I had just started, had one city and two warriors and was only a few turns in. Then a random event popped up giving me a barbarian horde of six or seven archers invading me. Naturally, I lost big time.

Yeah... that's a tough random event. It usually means the "end". There is nothing worse when the message finishes with... "You are likely to be the target of their aggression" or whatever they say. But the good news is, it's early in the game and you can start a new one
I mentioned elsewhere I got that message while building my first archer and my second city. 7 archers started 3 tiles from my capitol, marched right thru my lands and went to my neighbor about 8 moves away without roads, and killed one of his cities and captured his capitol. Bye, bye neighbor. Left me lots of room to expand and my HAs took out three barb archers in that old capitol, two of which had two promotions.

That event is one of the reasons I often build the Great Wall before any settlers.

The Vedic Aryans shouldn't be in the game...Sirian was an idiot for writing it.
I'll bite. What is this prattle about? Are you objecting to one of the barb names (merely window dressing), Sirian's implementation, or is there a deeper meaning?

I'm going to get this game, mostly to MP against my brother.
My brother has the original, with no add-ons yet. What should I get? I see we have BtS and Warlords. Also, Colonization, a GOTY version, and a Gold edition.
Can you give me a quick rundown or link to what they are?
If I get a more add-ons version, will it prevent me from playing against my brother, with his basic version?
Get BtS. It has all the new stuff on Warlords (except the scenarios).
Or try and get the Civ 4 Complete. It is a non-US release and has orignial/warlords and BtS on it.
I don't know why he saved my life. Maybe in those last moments he loved life more than he ever had before. Not just his life - anybody's life, my life. All he'd wanted were the same answers the rest of us want. Where did I come from? Where am I going? How long have I got? All I could do was sit there and watch him die.
