I wouldn't know, never went to either Lupanar would be the "before renaissance" version and could become obsolete, Brothel could be the modern version. They could be made slightly different. Just a suggestion

If it was me, I wouldn't rename. Colosseum doesn't get renamed Stadium, for example.

It doesn't have to be a simple "rename" - Colosseum could (actually for realism's sake "should") become obsolete, just like the monasteries become obsolete. One would need to build a "Stadium" after, say, discovering Mass media (or something else, it needs to be better thought through) to achieve the Colosseum effect. Yet the Colosseum would stay there, just like the monasteries, and would turn to producing, say +2 per turn

Back to "culture burn" - one could build a lupanar (before entering renaissance for instance) which needs to be cheap to build (40 on normal speed, for instance) and would, for instance, produce +1 per turn and also allow the city to "burn" culture in order to get more money at a well adjusted rate and within certain limits (using a button similar to those for whipping / rushing with gold). The lupanar would then become obsolete and an option to build a brothel instead could appear after entering renaissance. The effects could be the same or slightly different

I don't like the idea of Buildings obsoleting and being rebuilt.
We had this before with the recurring barracks. They would expire and need to be rebuilt. They would always expire in the middle of a war when you needed them most.

However, I might consider a building "Upgrade" option.

Suspect the presence of "brothels" in the game would produce a huge outcry from our moral guardians on the religious front. Doubt that many of them would recognize what a lupanar even is. So a case for no name change. (Is that correct? Isn't it a lupanary?)

Well I've installed Civ IV: Complete this evening, but don't have time to play it. But tomorrow is Friday, and I can play all night.

I'm currently patching BtS, and there is no indication of how far along the process is. This is pretty dumb, because you can't leave the menu until the patch has installed, but you can't tell how long that might be.

Don't use the game menu to download your patch - it's broken

Download it from here at Apolyton instead.

Thanks. Now I'm only an hour away from Civ goodness. Well, tomorrow evening at least.

                        There goes your weekend.
And more if you have Monday off.

Sheer insanity. I never install a new game unless I'm sure I have a couple of sick days built up. Clearly, you can't call in sick on your first day.
