  • One way is as lermfish advises.

Two very good war-focused civs are Montezuma and the Mongols. Shaka is also good for an early rush, but the AI plays him better in the early game than I can.

Montezuma, with that alter, is an amazingly effective early rush candidate.

    • Doesnt the altar come with code of laws, tho? Thats a bit too late to call ´early´ as a rush.

      • I'd try an imperialistic civ that starts with mining. Good combo for an early aggressive/expansive start without giving up the benefits of later UU / UB.

Good point, but the Duke is looking for a conquering horde, rather than just a rush.

He'd better never play me when I'm Egypt, or even the Mongols... War Chariots AWAY!

A dozen War Chariots before 1500BC is what I'd call a conquering horde...

              • I went with the Germans and overran my pangaea with Panzers, conquering almost everyone when I was given a domination victory.

I also need to edit my cities file so that Lyon is not spelt Lyons!

                • Just won with the Greeks on cultural at Noble level, which is a good thing, but won't help me to play MP, especially as each civ got a continent to themselves, and mine was by far the largest.

So what do I need to know to take rah and Ming to the cleaners? Not that I'm in the same time zone as them so am unlikely to have a decent game against either, but it's always good to know.

For the moment, two archers in every city is a minimum, and more troops are produced if another civ lands troops near me. Should I think of having more defensive troops for MP? Not that I'll be playing it until I can master a decent level , but it can't hurt to think ahead.

                    1) BW, chop, Axe, Axe, whip, Axe, Axe, chop, Axe, Axe.... Then go get 'em.
Mix in a settler and worker or two in there somewhere.

                    2) If you get past that point (either because you conquered one of them, or because neither was nearby), then focus on Currency and CoL.

If you do those 2 steps you'll do fine. :b

Ah, were it only so simple to take on the brothers, Rah and Ming. Get your thinking and move times to from 30 seconds to 90 seconds, depending on where you are in the game. Learn how to create stacks that work well in stack warfare, as you'll never have time to attack one at a time. Always put out scouts or units in the scout role so there are no surprises. I'm sure there is more, but I've never had the nerve to do it. (I tell myself I'm too deliberate, but, truth be told, I hate to be beaten.) Those clues are gleaned from their talk here.

                      • Beating us isn't that diffucult. There are many more around here that are better.
But yes, concentrate on getting you move times down. We've had games where everyone ganged up on the slowest player because we were all getting impatient. The good thing was that after that person was eliminated, the turns moved considerably quicker.

Probably yes, but you do have a reputation that carries over from the glorious Civ II days. Regardless, since I'm not in the same timne zone as you, it'll be European players who will be kicking my ass at MP. I tried winning at cultural on Noble tonight, and was thumped. KK, who was next to me from the start, got too far along on the SS route so I had to take him out, and the war meant that Willem got his SS finished before me, and was too far away to destroy.

Build lots of cities and lots more military units. Then attack them when Ming's on a smoke break, and when Rah's drunk.

Also, you shouldn't have 'two archers in ever city'. You should have a garrison unit (for happiness purposes) and a few large stacks of OFFENSIVE units. If their stack gets into your territory without you being able to wipe it out, a couple of archers won't stop ****. Catapults, macemen, elephants, that sort of thing.

Also, you can play our saturday evening games if you don't mind playing a game from 11pm-4am...
