    Ok, another noob question.

I can't win at cultural victory, even on Settler level. I've tried a couple of times, and produced lots of great artists, but still ended up having to win at space race because I was running out of time. My strategy has been to found as many religions as I can, spread them to three of my cities asap, and then build wonders on top of the temples, cathedrals, etc, but I still can't get enough culture points, even when running my highest hammer cities on culture for as long as I can. In the two games I've tried this (Spanish and Carts), I've only ever had one legendary culture city.

You sound like you are doing most things right... If you can generate a ton of GA's, they can add 4,000 a crack with culture bombs. It would help if you started with a "creative" civ. The French are really easy, because even their special building gives you a artist specialist. As long as you concentrate on your three cities, build all the right buildings and wonders for them... culture bomb them as needed, a culture victory is about the easiest thing to do in Civ.
      Keep on Civin'

Thanks Ming. I'm naturally a more peaceful player (and as such, totally unsuited to MP), and the French have long been a favourite civ of mine, even though I finished my first Civ II OCC as the Chinese, so this makes sense to me. Managed to get out of work early today, but that's unlikely tomorrow so I may have to play over two nights, which is the worst thing in the world for a lunatic Civ player.

Also for the cultural victory you could try researching to mass media (so you get hollywood, broadway, rock & roll and eiffel tower/broadcast tower) and then switching your national research % to culture as there are no further techs that will help your victory.

Also, liberalism gives 100% extra culture generated in each city so run that asap.

Well, free speech, which is unlocked by liberalism.

´...found as many religions as i can, spread them to 3 (!) of my cities...´

Each cathedral requires 3 temples. Hence, if you spread religions to only 3 cities, you can only build 1 cathedral per religion. Ergo, spread your religions to more cities, ideally 9 each, so you can build a cathedral for each relgion in each of your ´big 3´.

My earliest culture win was in 1685 (incans, prince, tectonics, epic) - i conquered my island with an early rush and from then on could just build away - i was done, before i was discovered - the others didnt even know me, so legendary were my cities...

The world was so impressed with Uni's culture, they all gave up sight unseen. Surrendering to a rumor of superior artists, musicians, and religion. Hmm, wonder who that sounds like in the twentieth century.

                    • Thanks to everyone for your help.

I managed to win by cultural victory tonight, and the next test is a conquering horde. Any suggestions for a civ to choose?

                      • Depends upon when you want to start the war mongling, and also a bit on the map type.
If you want to start out with some ultra early rushes, try the Incans; I've seen reports of someone successfully Q rushing 3 AIs opponents on Monarch in the same game.
(For this you actually want to be on at least Monarch so the AI is using Archers for defenders)

For a little bit later, but still a rush; there are Egypt's War Chariot rush (with Horses) and Sumerian Vulture rush (with Cooper). There are other civs with UUs in this category. You can sometimes just use the base units as well if your fast enough.

Around that same time is the Native American massively improved no resource Archers with Baracks + Totem Poles; works better on Prince and below than Monarch though. Later on their UU becomes adviable.

The earliest non-rush is the Roman Prat offense; this is much more reliable than the standard Swordmen offense because of how much better Prats fair against Axes than mere Swords.

There's also a few civs with better Horse Archers about that same time.

Just a little bit later (requires Ivory) there is the War Elephant. This works for anybody with Ivory; slight edge to Khmer's UU.

Waiting for Maces / Crossbows / Knights and beyond for the first war is much more of a build first then conquer later strategy than a war mongler one, but those work as well.
