CDs too, I suspect. I still call them albums or LPs much to the consternation of the folks I work with. Also, I still activate my cell phone only when I need to make a call. Again, my fellows regard that as paranoid and quaint.

ah, no, I grew up on mixtapes recorded from radio. We didn't get a cd player until, i think, 1990, and my first album was nirvana. and it came in this frigging huge box.

my fiancee would do unmentionable things if I turned off my cellphone. Wooden sticks come to mind. I don't listen to voicemail, so it must be on at all times.

Simpsons began in 1988. They've been on air forever it seems.

I still have a lot of tapes, not too many LPs left. As a side note, I went through some of my grandparents things and came across a couple of records made of tin.

Were the tin records cylinders? If so and they have points that stick up. the items were made for a player piano.

No, they were discs, with square holes in them.

All victories except time (although sometimes I disable Domination)

Fleme, why use "Lock Modified Assets"? As I comprehend it, that just keeps any other user of the same machine from accessing your game without the password. Is that, in fact, the point or is there more to it?

As I see it the point of "Lock Modified Assets" is to keep yourself from hiting the world builder menu.

With my current machine I like:

All victories enabled (give the AI every option)

joncnunn is right. If I don't lock modified assets, I'll be inclined to atleast take a peek in the worldbuilder and more often than not, do some terraforming.

So, it's to prevent myself from cheating

                          Epic speed
No diplomatic victory (I've lost too many times thanks to the Apostolic Palace or the UN)--as Rah said up stream, I think its broken.

I've only recently warmed to "Random Personalities". I was surprised at the synergy when I finally tried Tokugawa with the Ottoman Empire. I had an insane amount of fun getting Janissaries and then chomping on my neighbors. I usually am a much more peaceful Civ, in this game, I was bloodthirsty and loved it.

Now that I have BTS, here is how I play my custom game:

I use Super Map script mod to make a 160w x 180h map
13 players (myself and 12 AI opponents)
no tech brokering (trade only what you have actually researched)
                            no random events

I must say though, I am often disappointed with the map generation as you load a new game. I can spend an hour or more generating a map, not liking it, and then going back to regenerate a new map!

I think you really went to the dark side with that. You really should NEVER be picky with what map you got unless you start in a horrible (resourceless jungle or tundra) position, and the use of World Builder to inspect a map would severely curtail my enjoyment of the game.

Another option to bad initial position is to tweak iStartingLocPercent in GameInfo/CIV4HandicapInfo.xml for the difficulties you play at ... lower values give you better positions. I use it shamelessly, with a 10!

Often building wouldn't even start until there was almost nowhere left to expand to.

There's now multiple cycles. One expample being:

The proper terminology for this is eXplore - eXpand - eXploit - eXterminate.
