I'd vote Willem van Oranje the best and Huayna Capac the second best.

Hum, that seems to be the order here.

my choice would be huayna capac as well. it was catherine but recently have discovered capacs abilities and it seems everyone else knows too. he starts with mystism, which means u can get a religion, and easily get stonehenge, since he's industrious, and stonehenge gives a culture bonus. creative and industrious are my favorite traits, but capac can usually build stonehenge which gives a culture bonus like creativeity for the first half of the game. the terrace is great and quecha rushing early is an awesome strategy.

I fondly remember Catherine in the Vanilla version. She was Financial and Creative, and had killer Cossacks...
But then they nerfed the Cossack, and switched out Financial for Imperalistic... What a shame.

Now the financial and creative leader is Willem, with a UU that is a boat! Not quite as useful as a real combat unit. Also the UB comes late but has awesome effects, if one has planted his cities on rivers near the sea. Overall not as good as Catherine was, but still the most popular leader on this thread.

Will's UU is not bad if you are playing maps with lots of ocean. You can control the seas for a long time if you bee line toward them. A ship that can carry units and also defend and attack is fun.

And the UB is far better than what the russians get

I always do really well playing Hannibal. The economy's always great with Financial, and the +happy from the Charismatic trait helps your cities get up and running faster.

Willem is up to 20, Hannibal to 6, with Huayna Capec still in second. Financial is the trait of choice. Financial turns the ocean tiles to gold, and Willem's UB makes them as productive as the Moai Statues for the rest of us. In Willem's case, the Statues can make one sea tile worth 2 , 2 , and 3 . Damn fine tile, land or sea.

I picked louis, mostly because i've been playing as him a lot lately for the creative trait. However, all this talk on willem has me wanting to give him a try.

While I love creative in MP games, so i don't have to waste time building culture buildings at first, I'm not a big fan of it for SP games. I feel there are much better traits to have, with financial being at the top of the list.

For some reason, I feel its always necessary to capitulate to my enemies when playing louis

this usually has a negative impact on my score

Capitulation would, as the game announces "You have been defeated."

HC or Darius. Wil is only good on a water map and you need a river or else its pretty useless. Darius seems to be my favorite warmonger while HC is usually my Cultural victory guy, but really he can do anything.
