Right. Then I'd use Zara of the Holy Roman Empire. He's already got cheap courthouses and libraries, but -75% maintenance means that once I've got CoL there's NO ONE who can out-REX me.

Voted for Willem van Oranje, who has great early and mid-game advantages. However, Montezuma is way the best warmaking leader and Zara Jacob is really fine across the board as well. I took into consideration the associated civs in picking those leaders. Boudica of the Romans would probably be my fave for war and Pericles is easily the best with several of the civs for REXing and building.

My vote went for Saladin. I struggled with him at first, but smooth sailing now. Spiritual is a must for me, as i change civics left & right. Spiritual is also incredibly fun in my opinion. I love spreading my Civs religion & getting filthy rich because of it. I am a bit of a freak when it comes to religion tho... i have to play with Choose Religion On because i can't have Christianity for lets say for a player like Saladin. I must have it realistic, Saladin must have Islam. Same thing if i am Isabella, she must have Christianity. Protective isn't the greatest but it adds some Military kick to a spiritual Civ, so its not a push over like Gandhi when it goes & gets rough. Saladin's UB is very good & it comes early, his UU is decent. Plus he was a cool cat in real life.
It is impossible to loose a game with Huyana Capac. As losng as you are succesful in taking out 2 neighbors with a cuetcha rush, wich is also not hard to do.

I might have to give Alex another try. I figure Phalaxes with COM1, Cover1 would be able to defeat anything (except a Praet).

Arrian, if Darius is your fave, how come no vote for him (still at 0)?

Playing Huyana at the moment. He is indeed awesome. Wonders of your choice ("must not forget units and expansion," my brain keeps noting in the background) plus keep the science rate at 70%, culture rate at 10%, and still make a ton of money.

Let's not forget +2 granaries and COM1 warriors. It's like this guy starts with 4 traits.

Granaries are a big help, although I tend not to build them as early as they are available because of happiness/health limits. I usually build them when the health matters. In this game, I build them soonest. It's like having theaters in the ancient age. Almost the creative trait, but one does have to build the darn things, a choice over units early that can come back to bite.
EDIT: Did come back to bite. "Must build units," must be indelibly implanted on your brain, whether or not the sought victory is military. The AI killed me in this game.

The question is who would I pick in a "must win" scenario. My answer for that was Huyana Capac. Not that I voted for him until this moment, but anyway...
