Agree. Unless the city is less than ideally situated, keep the city. Most capitols are ideally situated due to the very concept of "starting positions."No matter where you go, there you are. - Buckaroo Banzai

Not to mention capitals often have settled GG's in them.
btw, if Huyana is sending macemen and cats against your cavalry, my only real question is why haven't you destroyed him yet!?I'm consitently stupid- Japher
I think that opinion in the United States is decidedly different from the rest of the world because we have a free press -- by free, I mean a virgorously presented right wing point of view on the air and available to all.- Ned

You have a lot of undeveloped specials in that picture and city placement is poor. You likely needed more workers and look where you want to place cities ahead of time.
EDIT: Ok, city placement isn't that bad (it's hard to see tile size from that picture), but you might have wanted to raze Bulgar and put a new city down elsewhere, which would also leave more romm for a coastal city to the north.Last edited by Theben; July 18, 2008, 13:53.I'm consitently stupid- Japher

You should have built your capital by the coast, exactly where it is in the first screen shot. Then your next city goes to the copper. Then a river city by the pigs and sugar. Then a coastal city by the fish, gems and bananas.
You shouldn't lack a good production city as there seems to be one up north there by the elephants and copper, if there is a food resource there, preferably two. If there is no food resource there you have to build it just south enough to hook up to those cows. You should get a decent production city there, and in fact it'll be your second city, cause it's the one by the copper .
Don't waste time here. Build loads of axes and a few spears and situate then close to the Aztec border. Then go for catapults and swordsmen and conquer all the Aztec land in one sweep.
Now you can relax and build up.

Notes:
-> Yeah, that three-cities-researching-education thing didn't really pan out. The five city one is a restart after taking some initial advice.
-> I didn't know about razing and replacing not helping. I figured it would reduce the number of foreign citizens. Academic anyway since Justinian captured it and now it's starved down to 1.
-> I haven't destroyed Huyana because while I have the tech I don't yet have the production.
-> I've attached the starting point save game.[ok]

Well, that looks better I see you built the cottages. Bad luck that you have a well developed cottage right on the oil. You're gonna have to destroy that one . What a shame.
P.s. I really feel we shared something here. What an intimate experience :P
There's another source of oil in the southwest (you can see it through the HUD) which, at the time, Justinian owned, but which has flipped over to me. I probably should tear down the cottage anyway, but for now, I'm holding on to it.
Julius Caesar solicited me to attack Huyana so I went along (oh, that demon peer pressure ) and took one city, which was enough to knock him down a rank.
But now freakin' Justinian is beating me on points! Near as I can tell his cities are protected by musketmen, so my plan is to finish the Pentagon and blitz his three cities to my south.
Yeesh.[ok]

If by village you mean cities, when you build the city the forest dissapears so it's only 25% defensive bonus.
(unlike civ II where the forest stayed)It's almost as if all his overconfident, absolutist assertions were spoonfed to him by a trusted website or subreddit. Sheeple

Yes, I prefer to attack then defend. He who gets to use their seige units first usually wins.
Better tiles usually is better but the extra hammer from a plains hills city can make a big difference early.
I've always thought that this was a bug but they've never changed it in any of the expansions or patches.
Sometimes, I'll have a "BAIT" city to attract enemy SODs and they're usually on a hill, but it's my usual stratagy to not have my cities attacked. It's almost as if all his overconfident, absolutist assertions were spoonfed to him by a trusted website or subreddit. Sheeple
