  • Trade bug or "working as intended"

I have a straightforward trade deal with an AI civ - say cow for rice. The AI civ decides to cancel the deal, although it is still willing to trade (ie the resource is not redded out). A few turns later it offers me the deal that it had previously cancelled. This cycle of cancel and offer it again can happen several times in the course of a game.

At first I assumed it was something to do with resources being won and lost in wars or culture battles, but it has happened so regularly in my recent games that it seems to be a BTS feature.

Do others experience this, and is it "working as intended"?

Yes, I experience this too. Often I refuse a same trade just out of annoyance that they cancelled it earlier.

Yes it happens. Generally I think the AI is hoping you will try to continue the deal with a little cash bonus tossed in. When you dont, they come back with the same trade they orriginally gave. It's just greed, and a nice touch if you ask me.

I don't think this can be the explanation. When I try to negotiate and ask what would make this work, they don't ask for "a little cash bonus". They either reply that it isn't possible, or ask for the original deal + iron and horses (or something similar). Also, I don't think deals are cancelled more often when I'm running a large cash surplus.

I'm also not convinced it's "a nice touch". I doubt that many human players will give anything extra. A number of times I have been able to put together a deal as good or better with another AI civ. If it is "working as intended", perhaps it's designed for trades between AI civs.

          Hi ,

its normal , the AI could have been demanded resource X by civ Y , or the AI does not like you , or an other civ is at war with your trading partner and loose resource X , the road to the resource is cut , etc , ....

perfectly normal , nothing to worry about

Well yes, sometimes I DO give in to there larger demands. When the trade is for horses and you're in the middle of a war, You're likely to toss in a banana and a clam too!

            ...Mmmm, bananas and clams...

After I get cids sushi running I trade off for all the worlds seafood. Often starts at about 4gpt, then after a while they ask for 5... I usually pay it, as I can afford to.

Apparently neither panag\hauptman read the part about it happening over and over

I think it's a bug, as there were issues introduced intending to keep people from too easily acquiring the resources for corporations.

I think there's a better explanation. A third party probably demanded they stop trading with you. So, they quit trading (else we know they hurt diplomatic relations), then they propose they same deal to you, as soon as practical.

Well I have been playing using Bhruics patch since he made it, And he actually did adress the overly greedy resource trades. But I do remeber them just forgot that I didnt have to deal with it anymore.

I don't think that's the option because if it was they couldn't trade with me for 10 turns but I often have them come back at me with the same deal in as little as 2 turns later.
