So to bring everyone upto speed, we left off just finishing chemistry ahead of the curve, my plan; Build lots of privateers and bring in a little extra cash while I could. I really only had 2 naval producing cities, so 'lots' would have meant around four.... But I digress. Inland cities tooled up to make use of the new techs and gain the ability to fight on land effectively. I taught my own men to wear steel upon themselves, created my own boomsticks, and prepared for war at an easy pace. I also had many buildings that required building. So I had to find that balance.
I sent my new super boats west towards Korea, as they had been my main technological rivals. It took 3 turns, from upgrade, to sail time to hit his borders.
That kaniving... cheating.... son of a.... How did he do that?
Well realizing I am still not a tech leader... I decide it's time to continue shopping...
However, undaunted, I continue with the tour, decide to take a look at the inner defenses of istanbul.
That proves to be rather weakly defended. Soon. It shall fall.
Not long after, my second prophet (and 3rd Great person) is born. He moves to the next city and builds the other shrine.
Even less exciting than the previouse. However, I had not been pursuing active spread, so what did I expect?
Then it happens. That scoundrel Sala-Hadin of the funny hat club, distracts me whilst his cronies try to sneak passed and attack the peace loving people of the Americas.
My spies quickly alert me and I send him off. How dare he come at me with some worthless trade while I have important matters of state.
After a situation report, we learn that there is no real danger. One of Mansa's frigate captains had gone rouge, and started a war between my empire and their alliance. Mansa, Not wanting to appear weak, or out of control, plays that it was all his idea all along, but I know what the truth is. He is a weak man ruled by those upon whom he should be ruling. Simpleton. I sink the offending ship, and have it's captain taken alive to face trial. The whole world shall know of this trechery.
The next turn, Tokugawa fearing for his own safety, decides he should join an alliance with his neighbors. Perhaps he believed THEY were the biggest threat?
Bizmark send emisaries to Rome. He Asks my ally and friend to declare war on me. Ceasar, see's the conspiracy, has the emissary's head removed, thus forcing Bizmark's hand. He declares war upon Rome. This of course keeps Rome from assisting me in my war. But I believe I shall not need it.
A young student comes to me. He tells me about how he has improved the accurancy and range of the Boomstick by changing the shot and carving some grooves in something... I cant be bothered with details at a time like this. I tell him 'yes yes, do as you like.' and send him on his way.
Suileman does something quite silly. He builds a palace so grand, that anyone who should conquer it, would find an offset to the cost of running any nearby cities through the tourism it will likely generate.
Looking towards the future, I realize that if my armies are going to have to fight, I shall need some more money in my cash reserves. Boudica is also willing to part with 400 gold for Monothiesm. Now 2 turns of research have made me close to 1000 gold.
Realizing that this 'phoney' war will eventually lead to not so phoney invasions. I move my troops towards the east coast. Just as they arive, I am informed that that young students improvements are ready, and we just require the money to begin the upgrades.
I allow him to spend all of our reserves. He tells me it will not be enough. This requires me then, to ask for assistance, or trade anything that isn't nailed down to raise a sufficiant amount.
As Korea is not a nation I wish to gift technology to, I ask politely for financial assistance. He denies me. I shall not forget this Wang.
Wanting no actual fighting, Hatshepsut and Hannibal both agree to end the war, with a ceremonial gift of 35 gold apiece to me. This leaves me at war with Mansa, his vassal Suliman, and that dishonerable rebel, Tokugawa.
I am now free to proceed with my plans.
Ships away! A force crosses the big water.
My army lands behind the first line adjacent to the city. Not only have I bypassed many of the cities defenses, But I have cut the city off from reinforcement. Victory shall be MINE!
Mansa, wishing to show us that he really means buisness, finally sends a token force at me. Surely he has no idea what awaits.
Realizing, with some of my army away, and my cash reserves gone. I must beg borrow or steal what I can. Wang is the last nation not at war with me to have any reserves. I must give in. The safety of my people is in jeapardy.
Ahah! the new weapons prove to be as great as that young main said! The attack is not only stopped, it is decimated with no real losses in my own army. I shall Make him a governor!
News that the assault on Istanbul has begun. I pray the boys succeed.
Elsewhere, My ships returning for reinforcments to drive inland from istanbul are intercepted. I suffer a humiliating defeat. All of my pride frigates are sunk. The galleons can only counter attack against 2 ships. Istanbul's besiegers now stand alone.
My greatest spy offers his services. As I have little use for him in my court, I send him among the people to ferment true fear as to make them work harder to defend thier homes.
After some time, The assault of istanbul nears completion.
The city falls. The greatest defensive possition in the world has been taken. Perhaps the world shall now know Incan power is not to be underestimated.
As my fleet is sunk, I cannot move inland from Istanbul. I have them consolidate thier holdings, and accept ceremonial offerings for peace.
I take advantage of the Golden age, and finally update our government.
Constantinople focuses on mercantile improvements.
Stay tuned for the next chapter of the saga. Even I could not imagine what came next!
