Call To Power 2 Cradle 3+ mod in progress: https://apolyton.net/forum/other-games/call-to-power-2/ctp2-creation/9437883-making-cradle-3-fully-compatible-with-the-apolyton-edition
I usually play epic. I sometimes play normal or even quick if I am aiming for a peaceful victory. I rarely play Marathon, but when I do, I normally get too impatient and quit.
Changing around can be fun - and a real test. Epic/Marathon is all about units, and seems to focus so much more on the early game. Quick is harder I find - there is far less oportunity to exploit the fact that I can wage war better than the AI - and I seem to reach the modern era with everything still to play for.
Swapping between them is a nightmare though. It turns me into a wonder whore. The build-screen pops up and tells me I could be the proud possessor of the Collosus in 6 turns - how can you resist that when in the last game an archer seems to take that long.
I like epic the others seem to advance through the times to quick but then I like to build the buildings before I build units and I mind long games. I am not a blitzkreger.
my setup is two continents
marathon
barbs off
monarch or Emperor
vassal off
18 civs on random
USA or Germany
random seed reload on.
I wish they would add a new setting Absolute unless tie
or somewhere close like 50% odds I really don't like it when it kills my unit at like 90% or something like it.
Then the odds would measure How much damage like 50% odds would have the winning unit majorly damaged whereas a 99 would have hardly any damage
I noticed that the Normal speed people often say that Marathon is slow and boring.
At the start, yes Marathon is boring as hell. Not much else to do then explore the map.
But once in the middle ages; Marathon is a dream to play. Every single turn there are massive amounts of choices to make. More turns means more units and they all need to be moved around.
I never ever played anything other then Marathon so I must confess I can't compare, but if there was a slower speed then Marathon, I would only play that one.
Marathon is fun but you really need to be committed to the game, as it takes forever... I find epic is a good balance.
I played quick once and had the same problem The Priest had. Statue of Zeus in 4 turns?! Wow! Then I noticed the AI had a lot more cities than me and it was 1200 AD (!).
I'm consitently stupid- Japher I think that opinion in the United States is decidedly different from the rest of the world because we have a free press -- by free, I mean a virgorously presented right wing point of view on the air and available to all.- Ned
Sounds like in quick mode, time flies even if you aren't having fun. I've never tried it, so I don't know.

Somehow I think it takes less time than people think... that or I'm not good yet. As stated by another user earlier... you can set things up and blow through turns more easily.
And I LOVE the fact that you do get time to enjoy the technology that you've just researched and the fact that NO ONE ELSE has it for a while.
War WILL happen... and it's nice to be able to walk swordsmen and axemen somewhere... and not be up against gun powder.
It also makes me less compulsive to check the stats EVERY turn to see what's goin' on. Feels like more control.

I hear that. At normal, I do a "city-walk" and stats check almost every turn because everything could be different. At marathon, don't check nearly as often. Main monitoring every 10 turns is the Power graph. Usually play epic, where I check power every 5 turns and everything every 10 or so.
