  • Worst (non-unique) Unit in BTS

I've never built an iron clad, so it gets my pick. I seldom use many of the ships besides frigates, destroyers, and transports. Explorers can be useful on terra maps. Musketman are pretty useless., along with machine guns. If I can build nukes, I'll build the real thing rather than the tacticals.

On a HUGE map (wich is all I play single) Tactical nukes are just worthless for anything but a coastal city.

Ironclads I place on my seafood as soon as available. Gets the job done even vs destroyers.

I would honestly say Cuirassiers. Due to the tech tree paths I usually take I almost always skip over them and go straight to Cavalry.

Bah, speed means nothing when all they do is sit on a fish square. They are like Machine guns, defense units. In fact, I take that back, I stopped a major seaborn invasion with 2 ironclads!

And on machine guns... Yes Ive had games where they never fire a shot... but when they do, such as holding a newly captured city, they pay divedends. One of my favorite units hands down. Every city defense unit I build is a archer -> crossbow-> Grenadier (sometimes)-> MG.

Anti-tank get's my vote, because it sucks even against tanks

Paratrooper isn't far behind, it's useless without the commando promotion and even with it, i'd rather have a marine with that promotion. Anyway, as you can make them jump from a fort, it may be interresting at some point.

Musketmen are truely bad, if they are not one of the UU which really pown !

Explorer. I've never built one... has anyone?

              Unremarkable others include:

Cuirassair - will never be present on my build queue

SAM infantry - I don't know, they just seem weak - better to defend with planes

Ironclad - they have a short shelf life, for good reason too.

I always build cuirassiers on epic speed games, but on normal and quick speed there is only a short period of time to build and use them.

SAM infantry are quite useful against planes Mix SAM infantry and regular infantry and you don't have to build nearly as many fighters.

Anti-Tank is probably my vote, but really all units are useful. Some just aren't useful to your strategy (like nukes for me).

I chose privateers, since for my games they never figure at all. If I build them they seem immediately vulnerable to frigates, and I've yet to see the AI build them at all.

                      Anti-tank got my vote.

Its tricky. Explorers as explorers I never build. But I do always build at least one in a game to be my Great General mobile field hospital, so it seemed unfair to choose them.

Anti-tank is there to allow countries behind in tech to have some way of countering tanks - it appears in the tech tree very early compared to tanks. So, I am all in favour of it being there, but I am glad I never need to use them

I pick ironclad. I go straight for destroyers. Cuirassair are a close call too.

Anti-tanks, well luck for you guys you never had to use them to their full potential. I had to once. They are by far the best protection against tanks. When tanks appear, they have power of 28 vs 24 for the marines. With airplanes available at the same period, the city defenses become less powerful, so the advantage is for the tank. One tank is as powerful as another, but the defender would not use any bonuses. Use AT with city garrison, or on hills and see how they counter tank rush.

AT have a very good place in the game, simply most people are able to mow over the AI at that time anyway. Most people would not defend, but would attack and AT are not offensive units. However, at that logic we can also eliminate the entire late game stage.

Actually.... I don't think I'd vote. Or maybe bananas. If you say "worst" as in "less used" it must be ironclad as it's slow, can't sail on ocean and destroyers comes very fast after. It is historically accurate to have them there so I don't want it remove, but I hardly build them unless it's an emergency.
