    In the last Blake pre BTS patch air units actually had an explore button. It would make them automatically fogbust the area around their base by flying over a random tile in their range every turn. I really miss that feature. Why didn't it make it into BTS?

    Good question.

    Why don't you ask Bh to add it into his patch. Should be easy since all he has to do is grab the code from Blake.

      Wasn't aware that planes did have that option. An even better version, must be a patrol button so you don't have to manually scout for incoming enemies each turn (but of course, the explore option would pretty much do the job without requiring a specific mod)

        I concur. If you have an aircraft(s) on CAP (close air patrol) over your city, then they should "see" further out than regular ground units. What ever the radius of the aircraft (on normal flight/movement) - at least 1/2 of that movement cost should be seen when performing it's close air patrol.

          That could maybe be an addition to the intercept mode you can set them in. When they are ready to intercept, they are kind of scouting for enemies. An automated pure scouting mission like the manual one where you press the binoculars (can't remember the name of that mission) would still have been the best I think (in real life, a leader doesn't order each fighter squadron to scout. (S)he orders to them to scout and then report if enemy units are seen)

            Exacty MoonWolf!

            Currently, they will show up as flying CAP (combat air patrol) around a given city - but if any enemy shows up...they are still flying circles - granted, it does look cool, BUT they need to address the threat at hand automatically attack that threat instead of being spoon-fed every movement of their mission.

              Then I think we agree, it was just different words I believe Dale's Combat Mod has some of these features with fighters scrambling to counterattack when attacked.

              Maybe it's just to activate the explore option for planes in the units.xml file? Just as a simple version of this for the moment. Am at work so I can't test it right now, but maybe later today

                MoonWolf, again, by your post -I would have to agree. But as a multiplayer myself, the only patches I have loaded are official civ patches - So I will take your word on Dale's hard work and HOPE that Firaxis agrees and takes his input in on the next patch (if there is even a next patch).

                  Hehe, new patch where? Who? Have hardly tried multiplayer so I kind of try to mod the game how I want it. But of course, then we need something official yes....

                    I'm pretty sure that there is a reason why it was not implemented. I mean the major part of Blake's patch was integrated into BTS. Why did they remove this?

                      If I remember right, it was one of the last things Blake added. It easily could have been "after the cut" and that's the only reason why Firaxis didn't add it.

                      Ask Blake, he probably knows.

                          Are you talking about the Recon button? If so its available in the Next War mod.

                            I actually made a thread a month or so ago on this topic, I really really wish they had a constant patrol feature. You set it once, and each and every turn it would patrol the same square. I might actually build an airship if they had that. Doing it manually every turn is so pase'.

                              Yes this issue pops up all the time and everyone seems to be in aggreeance. It would be easy to implement so take note Firaxis!
