  • A Deity challenge

    Hi guys!

I was thinking; Why don't we start a game of Deity? A game started from the very same save file and we could go on with the game and talk about our strategies, successes and failures? I personally would expect myself to fail miserably but there's always a chance that me or someone else would succeed in the game and as the game goes on we could discuss about the strategies we chose and how our game progressed.

How about it? I'm willing to give it a go if there's even one person interested in giving this a shot since what's better than a proper challenge anyways?

What kind of settings would you like to see for the game?

    Game is up!

this could be interesting. i'll give it a shot as long as you don't make it too brutal- decent leader (NO imperialistic or protective please), good starting position, maybe add in some extra civs to take the edge off? i won't survive the BC years in a standard deity game.

also my preferences for settings would be small or standard map, epic speed.

Ok good; I don't like IMP or PRO either so we're on the same page there. Do we want a civilization/leader for war or for building or someone with bits from both worlds? My personal map preference would be Standard size pangaea, continents or hemispheres (or similar) and epic speed works for me. +3 AI's to take the worst edge off.

      So, leader suggestions?

I guarantee you PRO would be more useful in a deity game, if it's above your normal level But up to you guys, it's beyond my ability regardless.

It's above anyone's level and we shouldn't be playing only to defend now should we?! Goal in mind and that goal is to win!

You should give it a go too, snoopy

I'd give it a shot, I'd expert to be massacred though. I'd like a financial leader as a preference.

Pacal II is a good choice. Being FIN/EXP gives you something to work with and the UB is really good too for your happiness issues. My other strong candidates would be Hannibal with FIN/CHM if the map has a large body of water or alternatively Willem van Oranje whose CRE trait would help to landgrab and allow us to settle more freely. Also Washington with CHM/EXP is really good since the cities will reach caps on both health and happiness really fast. Darius is also good.

My preferential order of potential leaders is:

              1. Pacal II (FIN/EXP I got my so far only Deity win with him. On the downside, his UU isn't very good)
              2. Hannibal (Some extra happiness, potential for military, really good UB for a coastal location and an average early UU)
              3. Darius (FIN/ORG is a proper combination but we are likely not to make most use out of ORG except for the building bonuses. UU has good potential for a rush if executed properly and the UB would help with health issues)
4.Washington (Just for the traits. The UU and UB aren't likely to come into play unless we get really lucky)
              5. Mehmed II (EXP/ORG might not be the best combo for this game but the traits are still good for a peaceful approach. The UB helps with happiness issues. UB average at best.)
              6. Willem (Same as Washington.)

I suppose we could add a few more but I would like for the leader to be one of those 6 unless someone makes a strong argument on another leaders behalf.

I could agree with the Ethiopians but the Native Americans - NEVER! AAH!

I'll download the game and play it, in order to learn a little... It's not just above my level, it's waaaay above my level. But I'll go after you, folks. After read this thread... My civ skills barely keep me alive on noble. 30%~35% wins... In a lucky day, and sometimes after regenerating.

I started looking around for a map type to play on and generated a few maps without locking modified assets just to see how the maps look and if they are in favor of the AI in any way.

Turns out they aren't. On my first generation of Hemispheres (3 continents, 9 AI's and me) for Washington it gave me a spot with 9 Flood Plains, 4 Plains hills 2 of which had gold and were on the riverside, 2 Grassland riverside hills, one of which had Pigs and both were on the riverside. The remaining tiles were grassland or plains forest. Also, my continent had 2 other inhabitants naturally and it was divided by a 1-tile wide slice of land, which had a mountain in the middle. So, effectively this would have meant that the entire upper half of the continent would have been all mine.

Too bad these are just test creations

Either way, I'm leaning towards Hemispheres.

Can't go wrong with the Native American's though..

I am currently playing a Deity Game at the moment, and I am doing well, even though my usual level is Prince...

what are pacal's UB and UU? you shoould also consider the egyptians- good traits and a great UU. my vote would probably be darius or hannibal. or maybe boudica.

Pacals UU is the Holkan which is a spearman that doesn't require copper and is immune to First Strikes. UB is Ball Court Which is a Colosseum that generates 3 instead of 1.

SPI/IND or SPI/CRE? Industrious would go to waste since I don't think that it's realistic to think that we'd be getting any wonders but then again who am I to say? The UB is a huge lackluster too and while the War Chariots are nice they don't make up for the fact that none of the Egyptian Traits benefit towards health nor happiness. Boudica's UU and UB aren't anything brilliant either an while I appreciate her warmongering skills I don't think we want anything that exclusively geared towards war. If it's Celts, then Brennus is the stronger candidate.

I can live with Darius or Hannibal.
