So, still no army and here is the reason why:

I am starting my race to Liberalism...

Lets starve this city a bit during the Golden Age to get some more GPPs.

11 turns to go and the other civs are missing at least 1 tech.

And I traded for Philosophy with 2 turns left myself this round and switched to Pacifism, so basically I will keep the GPP rate even when the GA ends.

During the GA it is a nice boost for 200% GPP.

Well, 11 turns to go, lets hope that no one of the big guys ask for techs needed to Lib till then (or fairly late).

Joao switched to Confuzianism, but is still pleased an fairly far away, Pacal and Gilgamesh remain pleased/friendly.

But the chinese guy is annoyed at me since I did not gave him Drama when he asked for it, this is the main danger IMO at the moment, since he seem to be located right to the west of Pacal and fairly close.

      Won the race

but will try to get replaceable parts as the free tech since the AIs still lack the techs for Liberalism. The extreme times of starving my cities for GPP are over, but Washington is still at a decent rate due to the National Epic + Pacifism. Used one earlier GS to lightbub printing press to where it is now.

And now it is time for a break...

Really nice. Can you post a save from your current spot?

All in all that's a huge gamble to play like that because it will go to hell as soon as even the weakest of AI's declares war on you with any kind of army. Having Gil as your friend seems to pay off nicely.

        Good show, sir!

Got replaceable parts, then I tried to get the GM from economics, but Huayna beat me to it right on the next turn...

I will now slowly start to gear up for a war with Shaka, will try to get nationalism and astronomy from Pacal and research rifling, then pay a visit to Shaka.

Will switch to Nationhood then and draft some rifles after building some Galleons and Fregates.

340 AD is the closest save to the previous screenshot I have here, will attach it.

Yup, the combination of GA (+100%), Pacifism (+100%) and National Epic (+100%) is very powerful.

I think I should have even settled 1 more GS in Washington instead of bulbing Philosophy ("just" saved 5 turns IIRC), but I had no idea that the AIs would be this slow in going for Liberalism - in the end better be safe than sorry.

When are you planning on going to war? Seems to me that you have a fair shot at nailing this one.

amazing! I was wiped out. Maybe I should have given Gilga Masonry when he demanded it...

                  Here's a quick summary.
Settle on start spot. First tech Mining. I'm a production junkie. First build, obviously a boat. I'm gonna micromanage a bit to make the boat coincide with the first Cultural expansion. Or close to. Working the elephant gives me the boat fast and some extra cash for teching.

Next? Not sure. BW? Yeah. I work the fish and flood plains. I want Washington to grow FAST. Nice. Copper right next to Washington! The city is growing extremely rapidly. Then I'm gonna flip to production, pop out some workers, defences, settlers. That's the plan at least.

I settled 3 new cities on my peninsular territories. New York by the gold. Boston on a dye for fish and Philly further south having crabs and wheat. I open borders with Gilgamesh to try to get friendly with him. I give him some health resources to keep him happy. He is completely surrounding me.

The game continues, I'm not really getting anywhere, but I'm still in the game at least. Until China declares war. I fight them off. They totally refuse a peace treaty, but their armies stop trickling through Sumeria so I don't mind. Then Gilgamesh suddenly has enough of me treating him nicely and that is that.

I fight on for a few centuries. Keeping him off until 50 bc. Then Washington falls. Game over.

880 AD and it is starting to get really hard, most AIs have me on "we fear you are becoming to advanced", so I have to research on my own.

Basically this postponed my plans to attack Shaka, too, since I first had to research Constitution to switch to Representation, but Pacal is still outresearching my by a big margin.

I am currently working on Steel for cannons, but sadly Isabelle is about to destroy Shaka, just 2 towns left - on the positive side, both are fairly close to me.

Basically I will build 3-4 ships and declare on Shaka and hope that Isabella will take some time

Well, after losing a couple more tries I started an Immortal game instead. Same basic parameters except the game is at normal speed and I chose Willem so that I could skip building the Monuments to start every city. I had 7 cities and was looking pretty good until that typical SoD came barging in to ruin it all just before I got Gunpowder. I may load a backup from a while back and see if I can get enough military in time to stave off the invasion.

I'm going to release a new Deity challenge once this one has ran it's course even if no-one wins. Perhaps we'll have better luck with another map and even without, it looks like CharonJr might have this one in the bag right away.

You should start a thread with that "Immortal challenge", I'd take part for sure

Well, unless I get some more cities soon I will not be able to win this one, the AI boni getting too high again and I can't "outtrade" tehm in tech anymore.

Definitely. Give deities what they want when it's a one-way diplo modifier.

WFYABTA hits early on pangea maps. What I do is wait for the AIs to offer me tech deals, those don't accrue WFYABTA.

I was content to block the peninsula in my game. As far as deity games come, this setup is relatively easy, in part because of the block and the high number of AIs guaranteeing our landmass parity to all but the most powerful AIs.

Started with a boat and continued with mostly workers. Built second city near stone and GW, then Mids, then two more cities filling the peninsula, and finally GL.

Diplomacy was a bit of a hell because religions spread in the worst possible way. I did manage to stay out of wars so far tho.

Lib is almost done and it's time to decide on war. Shaka and Wong seem likely victims, and the weapon of choice: rifles...probably.
