  • Wtf is wrong with Judaism?

I got monothiesm first, founded Judaism, then nothing! Meanwhile 7 Civs on my continent have become buddist bot none have joined Judaism, no, not even a single CITY, other than my own cap.

These buds are gonna get smart and then I'm doomed!

Ever have a religion totally poop out on you? I feel like the six sided star is becoming a target on my back! Hmm,alot like Israel is today.

Did you have open borders and trade routes with them? Has the buddist holy shrine been built and not the jewish one?

First, can you trade with them? A religion will only spread by "convection" when the holy city can trade with the target city.

Second, do they have any other religion? A religion will only spread naturally to a city that has no religious presence already.

Third, if they already have a religion, what percentage of their total population follows each religion? A civ generally goes with whichever religion has the highest total population following, with one exception. Which brings me to:

Fourth, if they already have a religion, who founded it? I've found that civs naturally gravitate to home-grown religions rather than foreign.

As an example, assume you're on a continent where Buddhism and Hinduism were not founded, and you founded Judaism. Alexander is your neighbor. With no other religions there, he'll adopt Judaism as soon as it spreads to any of his cities. However, if he founds Christianity, he'll switch to it once it spreads to a certain percentage of his population, even if Judaism is in every one of his cities at the time.

If your neighbors already have a religion of their own, the only way you'll be able to get them to adopt Judaism is going to require you to build tons of missionaries, manually spread the religion to their cities, and then ask them through diplomacy to adopt the religion. If you can bring the percentage of the population following Judaism to a higher amount than that following another religion, they might switch on their own, but it isn't automatic.
Age and treachery will defeat youth and skill every time.

Trade routes...I built my holy city inland, no routes! Also I have no prophet, so no building.

Plus all that other stuff. Woe is me.

If I build a second city on the same river as my cap they will have trade routes even though they are too far away to be connected by culture, yes?

What's the best way to get a prophet for your religion?

The cities on the same river but not connected by culture do trade and are connected.

Build an early wonder that gnerates Great People points toward Prophets, or build a temple and then assign one of your population as a priest, since this will generate the right kind of Great People points as well.

However, if you have used a scientist or built a wonder that generates other kind of great people points, then it comes down to percentage time when you finally have enough points and kick out a great person.

On a side-note: Lancer, we have never played a civ game together before....sure, we did the Trade Wars thing, but that's just not Civ.
