  • Civ 4 BTS DVD broken!

I'm afraid my Civ 4 Beyond the Sword DVD is almost dead! All around the hole of DVD plastic is brokening.

If I try to put the DVD in my notebook DVD tray (that have some little grip to keep the DVD in place, to avoid unwanted DVD shift), small plastic piece start to break.

Do anyone know if the company policies is to replace the DVD? I live in Italy, and I suppose I can ask to Italian representative, but the shop where I bought the game can't help me, and I'd like to know if someone else lived the same trouble and get a replacement (you know, real example can iron out many doubt about the real responsible of the defect).

Of course the game DVD is the original one, and I can take a photo to show the defect.

I can't play the game, because I'm afraid the game DVD can damage the DVD reader (it started to vibrate a bit too much), so I need help quickly to finish a couple of saved game!

Thank you in advance for any hint and solution.

Being in Italy will probably prove to be problematic. If you were in the States, I would suggest sending the actual defective DVD back to the store for a replacement, but I'm guessing that stores in Italy do not have the same return policy concerning defective CD/DVDs...

Maybe try the contact us page on the Firaxis site?

      Good luck.

i don't know if its possible to register with steam. I bought the game with steam and i don't have a dvd that can break ...
However its not possible to get the vanilla civ on steam, that means i still need that dvd to play the c4dg ...

I'd apply to Take Two Europe... in theory they are supposed to send you a replacement DVD for a nominal fee covering S&H I think (at least this is true in the States and ought to be in Europe)...

Well, I've sent a mail to "DDE", a customer support address of the italian reseller.

No reply 'till now, but I'll wait a few more days to give them a chance.

Next step will be a mail to Take Two Europe, I suppose.

I'd just email them straight away.

Hmmm - there might be a work-around, which i stumbled upon when i visited my girlfriend at the time in the states, leaving my discs at home and the game being already installed on her comp, from a previous visit (when she bought the game for me)... but i am not sure if i may talk about it. It might serve you as a temporary solution for until your discs are replaced... but i need some admins approval first (i think they know what i am talking about), before i post any further info on that.

If you are talking about what I think you are - then no - discussions about that are not allowed.

I appreciate your help, but I agree with you that using workaround that can be used to pirate the game is not Apolyton area.

Still, I bought the game (and payed it: I can show you manual, box, original disk, whatever evidence you want), so IMO and by commercial ethic Take 2 or Firaxis must replace my defective disk, or I'll take whatever measure I need to let me play the payed game again, and to the hell all the false "customer support".

i had a defective cd and sent a letter to the distributor (with the CD) saying that I payed for the software and since making backup copies are not legal I would have to expect a new cd from the company. and I got one. but I live in norway. no idea what rules are like in italy.

i suspect that if you make a big fuss you will likely get a new one. just keep making a big fuss, sending them letters, emails etc etc. but you have to argue well for it (preferably in legal terms).

I had to send some support requests to Take 2 Italy. They replied to ask to the shop for a replacement.

The shop assistant said they only offer a three months warranty on defective disk, and they are not the producer of the disk.

AFAIK Italian laws tell a different story, but that's a common discussion: put the fault on someone else and play table tennis with the customer.
At last I insisted enough to have the shop assistant to call his boss by phone, and he accepted to replace my disk with a new one.

Of course having Civ 4 BTS already in a discount bin helped me to receive it, still the boss solved my trouble and now I'm back to my saved games.

Thanks to anyone tried to help me on this thread topic.
